This isn't new, PS4 has been selling like shit in the US and Japan in the "pre-season" since launch, compare shipment numbers to NPD every non-holiday quarter and you get the same results.

You're severely underestimating Europe and RotW.

So, You say PS4 has Sold 3m July to September outside Japan and US?

Are You sure i underestimate the rest of world?

The PS4 is so going to end up selling more than the PS1. It'll eventually become the second best-selling console of all time, I'm sure of it.

I completely agree, my friend. The mind boggles how some people think this thing isn't going to smash 100M units by the end of its life - it's a dead cert

It is 100% possible.

Regardless the PS4 will bring in more profit than PS1 and possibly even PS2 due to PS+ subscriptions and the strength of a digital market.

PS4 is a gigantic smashing success for Sony.

PS1 and PS2 were both initially sold at massive loss too. Isn't PS4 sold at a profit?

Yes, PS4 #2 is possible, the biggest threat however is a significantly reduced life-cycle of both PS4 and XBOX One. A holiday 2018 release if a new console generation could jeopardize this one. And if I was Phil, this is exactly what I'd do.

Psh, garbage results. No MAU numbers? No greatest line up in the history of this industry? No PS4 is the best selling PS4 in PS4's history? Poor broke Sony seems to be going out of business soon.
Looking at US and Japan numbers MS should take notes and start to give some fucks about Europe and the Middle east.
Nobody cares about those countries.

My god....Toukiden 2, Nioh, Star Ocean 5, Digimon, Persona 5, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter 5, Nier Automata, Horizon, Tales of Berseria, Gravity Rush 2, among many others in 2016

I can only imagine what PS4 would be looking like if Sony weren't destroying the competition in sales!

I kinda would like to see them get beat and turn desperate if this is what we're getting now

Uh no you wouldn't. Sony needs this win much more than Microsoft.

Sony better ship more PS4 in Q4, because new 007 going to flop so hard.

Lol!

Those numbers seem incredibly strong. Sony absolutely nailed every detail of the build up to and the launch itself. They have been very clever with the software they have paid to be associated with, Destiny and now COD and Battlefront. Got to give them credit, it's been a masterclass. Have to say I'm finally starting to really enjoy my PS4 as well. Good job all round

don't throw at me, but ain't it funny that this console sells so good even it has by far not all(!) the good features? It has some cool and most of all power, power power. But:
think of a PS4 with snapping Apps, backwards compatibility, the xbox one controller, voice control, windows 10 streaming and ea access - that would be cool. And it would mean 45 millionen sold.
But (in my eyes) unfortunately most of the cool things/features I like are things are on the other side. (Thats why their 14-15 million is good too).
PS4 numbers are fantastic!

License to Kill has the worst gross of the franchise in US box office (Adjusted for ticket price inflation).

Not surprises me the 6 years gap until GoldenEye.

Yah that's what suspected. It made a profit worldwide IIRC but (despite Dalton being rather good in the role IMHO) his two films struggled to adjust from the style of the Moore era and also saw Bond at his least fashionable vs the fare of the time such as the buddy/buddy Lethal Weapon films amongst others.

IIRC it made more than its production budget in US but not by much and factoring in marketing, etc. probably only made a relatively slim profit (for a Bond film although associated merchandise, DVD probably kept it overall healthy enough).

Goldeneye though - once they took a good long time to rethink the style - was a big hit and kicked off Bond being very profitable again. Then as Brosnan era dipped Craig and Casino Royale saved the day again and I'm pretty sure every Craig Bond has made more than the previous one peaking with Skyfall (thus far). Spectre might not match Skyfall (although I think it has good chance) but it's clearly going to be very successful.

It also depend on how low in price they willing to go .
Last gen console never drop low enough to have any tail end sales.

Because of the Cell, The PS3 is still RRPing at like $250.

PS4 will be at that in a couple of years, and then below

PS4 with snapping Apps, backwards compatibility, the xbox one controller, voice control, windows 10 streaming and ea access - that would be cool. And it would mean 45 millionen sold.

The PS4 would be selling better if it was the Xbox one?

So in your world all those features add another 15 million to PS4 sales?ok...

Consumers just wanted a box that plays games well. All the other stuff is fluff especially initially. Also some of those features are important for some segments of the market but not anyone else, basically subjective features.

Edit: looking back the iodine levels are high with this one

This has got to be why MS wont talk about shipment numbers now. The gap is going to get bigger and bigger and they know it. Its just gonna keep looking worse

Sony increased their forecast for PS4 sales this FY by 1 million, so I doubt they would do that if they're over-shipping PS4. That or they have bad forecast analysts.

Finally, some salt.

to think 2016/17 look likes its actual golden years
gran turismo, god of war, quantic dream game, uncharted, street fighter, tekken, nier,2 of the most anticipated final fantasy games ever(hopefully), kh3 , new team ico project, new star ocean , biggest dragon quest mainline project since 8, biggest persona game yet, cod and bf partnership, star wars partnership etc etc etc
if this lineup doesn't recreate the ps2 glory days then i dunno what will

A move too early by MS could backfire quite easily, a 4 year cycle? Would be a poor move by MS.

PS4 is not a particularly complex design, it will benefit greatly from the process shrinks that are finally starting to occur. We're likely to see another price drop from Sony and MS sooner than later thanks to that.

Cell on the other hand, fuck that noise.

this. thatll just be make or break for xbox.
itll take em out of a slump if all goes well and maybe put em on level ground.
but if it doesnt , phil can kiss his job and the existence of an xbox division goodbye.
itll be reduced to a service on phones and windows

they did it before and reaped the rewards with the 360. the problem is i don't know if more dedicated hardware is the industry's 'thing' right now, or ever again. i feel like they'd have to have some sort of angle with it to work, and i don't think they can go superpowered like they did with the 360 again either.

2018 would be a five year cycle though.

Would those rewards of going early not have been hugely reduced had Sony come in with a respectable price point for PS3?

are you suggesting ps4 and xbox make a baby and then mother xbox murders the daddy and takes the baby away and live with the resulting fortunes?
either that or its just a stealth driveby version of

I dont know about Middle east, but they certainly do care about Europe. Problem is no one wants to buy a xbone. The always online/NSA spying/second hand games policy severely damaged the Xbox brand in Europe. And now it's Too late to fix their mistakes.

At the rate the PS4 is selling, Sony might have a chance of selling more consoles (not handhelds) than all of Microsoft and Nintendo's consoles combined by the end of this generation.

I think PS4 will pass the 40 million shipped mark by the end of FY2015 Q4.

Tough guy.

The poster is missing a few features from the XB1 on the PS4, alongside the controller. Is that really enough to confuse you?

edit:
Streaming to a PC, EA Access and backwards compability would all be some nice additions to the PS4, I think. Don't you agree?

Just in the hypothetical sense of what kind of stops they would be pulling, if this is them resting on their laurels that i hear so much about

I'm sure they're all reflecting deeply on the abject failure of not being the increasingly distant second of this gen. Just imagine how much better they would be if they were the losers.... Why as the perennial second place team they'd shine as brightly as Sega, the bedrock, the ultimate form aspired to by all console makers.

Umm yea neither of those is happening. No way no how.

The JRPG wave will make Japan listen, Summer Lesson & co. will make Japan throw their cash at PSVR sets!

For the 300$ set to happen, VR as a whole has to be a success and reach casuals, I truly believe the potential is there and Sony has the best cards to achieve that goal.
Why? PSVR is the most plug & play VR solution and will be the cheapest for some time.

Yeah it won't be the best solution out there, but I'm sure it'll be more than good enough.

Haven't really followed the Samsung VR helmet thingy, is it successful in Japan? Is it comparable to Oculus and PSVR headsets? Do they have a solid controller, is it supported by many apps/games, or do you just look around and touch a button or two on the helmet?

I actually think if they play their cards right and get the price down to $200 for a slim unit by holiday 2017 they could beat ps1 and have a chance at nipping ps2's heels.

The ps4 has the possibility of staying relevant for much longer than the ps2 did. Shader technology, disc storage capacity, and networking were the big "future" features that the ps2 couldn't keep up with.

What stands in ps4's way to sell in 2019-2020?

Certainly vr will be more demanding with higher frame rate requirements but I don't think people will complain if vr titles are slightly scaled back in effects. Vr also won't be the core user and won't play a role in more than 10-15 million of the 110 million needed to beat ps1.

PS4 is successful because it is giving people what the X1 isn't, so why would a PS4 more like an X1 sell better?

Also streaming console games to PC is the most useless idea I have heard of in ages.

Also EA access is a paid service, not a feature.

maybe. the ps3 was notoriously difficult to develop for, and the cost of games skyrocketed in that generation to the point where the costs were also passed on to the consumer in a big way.
