[Rumor] No Man's Sky Development / Technical Issues (Podquisition)

Wouldn't be surprised if this gets released at the end of 2016. I just wished developers would stop showing off games years in advance.

there was a delay? i thought we only just got a release date announcement?

The game was initially slated for 2015 when Sean posted a new years post and says see you in 2015 the year when no mans sky comes out.

But things change, perhaps adding a PC version and adding Virtual Reality to the mix also adds to development time as well as additional modes and features that could be implemented. It wasn't long since they added a procedural audio system as far as I'm aware, so they're definitely adding to the game's content.

What was the previous release date?

October 27, 2015 - didn't you see it in on Amazon.fr?

Seems like normal stuff for a game - especially one of this size and uniqueness. Also, to be clear this game is not being published by Sony so they are not beholden to anyone for release date/milestones etc...

Couple things...

The game is sill eight months away. Is it shocking that it's not running at 100% optimal? It's in development. If it had "gone gold" and it was having technical issues, then we've got a big problem.

Also, people keep saying this game got delayed. When the heck did a release date get pushed back? I've only ever seen one release date for this game, and just saw it a few days ago.

Feels like a lot of people want this game to crash and burn. Maybe it's resentment for how early they showed it, and how often they've shown the same stuff, but still a little crazy. Just wait til launch and let the impressions and thoughts flow freely once we actually have any concrete, factual hands-on anything about this game.

Didn't Red Dead Redemtion have quite a troubling development? Look how that turned out. Hell iirc Naughty Dog talked about having some development issues with The Last of Us. These things seem to happen with a lot of games but most devs don't let it be known until sometime after launch if at all.

Considering the game, all of this can be perfectly normal and of no significance. It gives a little bit of context to the release date though if it is something substantial, or maybe things will change in terms of the games scale or what the developers originally planned. I just thought it was interesting, unlike some that want to make it into something dramatic, which it probably isn't

Sean Murray seems like a smart guy. He and his team will figure it out. I'm not concerned.

Is there a rule that says you can't be on Colbert while your game in development has technical issues?

If you had the chance to be on a show that big, would you go or think "Hmmm no we need to get it all optimized first"

You go on talk shows to talk about shit that is out or about to drop. Otherwise it is a waste of time because no one will remember when your project comes out in a year.

This games development being 'troubled' is probably the least surprising news ever. I'm also fully expecting a bug ridden mess when it launches and it will take a few weeks/months worth of patches to get it right.

And I'll still be there day one. Such ambitious games rarely come around, so it's important to support them and bear with the developer as they try and perfect the game, even if it does seem like they won't be able to fix all the problems...

Anyway, the game I'd be more concerned right now is Rime. The rumours about that game are more troubling.

Looked improved to me, especially the creature draw distance which looked to be 2-3 times further out than before.

I noticed that too, another thing I noticed had improved was the terrain generation. There was still some minor pop-in on the "I've seen things" trailer, when the ship lands on the blue-grass planet, but the overall world generation has been massively improved when you look at the Colbert Show video and see him jumping planet to planet quickly without any load times and <1 second generation time. Further when he jumps into debug mode and the environment is still generating a lot of detail around the player.

I had also heard that the PC optimisation was problem. However, I heard the rest of it differently. What I had heard that the PS4 version was basically done and dusted, hence the marketing blitz that seemed geared towards a September launch. I was also told that given that they had committed to simultaneous PC/PS4 launch that the PC problems caused them to miss their launch slot.

I don't claim to be an insider, my source is second hand i.e. a friend who is a friend of someone who works at HG. MOTWYW.

well if this is true why not just release the ps4 version then work on the pc version.

just because you've said you'd like to do a simultaneous release doesn't mean you have to...

release it on the one platform and generate some cash while you optimise the other one.

Seems like a very ambitious game for a small team. If they are having issues, Sony should send some help to deal with any technical issues, seeing as they're pushing it so much.

I was always cautiously optimistic about this game, mostly because I've played a lot of Elite and the SC alpha, it may not be as big as those games budget-wise but I always thought NMS was as ambitious as those two, to some extent at least especially when you consider the small team size.

Hopefully they get it sorted out before release.

I'm pretty sure you don't get to choose when you appear on his show. There's nothing to lose for the devs

Says who?

Sean Murray. http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/12/25/happy-christmas-mans-sky-team/

That said I'm glad they are taking the time they need instead of rushing out something that doesn't meet their standards. I've never really understood people who get angry about game delays - people are doing their best to make a product. No one wants to delay their game, but I'd rather devs take their time and get everything the way they want it than rush out a product to meet a relatively arbitrary timeline. I think this game will be awesome when it does come out.

Yeah, that seems very odd. It's not like they kickstarted the game or needed to satisfy the PC crowd too with a simultaneous launch.

I'd be surprised if No Man's Sky didn't have development issues. It was clear from the get-go that they were in over their heads. They deserve all of the accolades in the world when they pull it off on the PS4.

What do you even do in this game? If you don't really do anything how hard can it be to get to run. I bet it will be 30fps as well smh

Damn, I thought that E3 demo looked rough in places, but figured it was down to it being on the PS4. Decided then, that I'd wait for the pc version...

Don't want to derail this thread too much, but what are the rumors about Rime? Haven't heard much aside from the disappointing lack of updates regarding it.

Anyways, I'm not too worried about NMS at the moment. If it's April/May and we're hearing the same rumors or press builds are performing poorly on the tech front then we have reason to be worried.

I love all the defenders saying it wasn't suppose to come out in 2015 and it wasn't delayed when the creator of the game said it'd be out in 2015.

Look I'm all for game delays if it improves the game and is needed, but don't pretend like he didn't say it would be out in 2015.
