Halo 5 sales in the UK [Excludes digital sales]

(Just seen the other thread but its just a rehash of the pal thread without telling people why the sales are noteworthy)

Whilst we do not have the first games numbers it appears to be the worst or second worst selling based on how the first game did. Halo Wars is a spin off gameplay wise so not really a good comparison;

I took the liberty in updating some of those series stats, Bruno. Did a little digging and found this (Numbers rounded for obfuscation, but more accurate than previous.)

Code:
[Week 11, 2002] HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED (MICROSOFT) – NO DATA
[Week 46, 2004] HALO 2 (MICROSOFT) - 260,000
[Week 39, 2007] HALO 3 (MICROSOFT) - 370,000
[Week 09, 2009] HALO WARS (MICROSOFT) - 65,000
[Week 39, 2009] HALO 3: ODST (MICROSOFT) - 212,000
[Week 37, 2010] HALO: REACH (MICROSOFT) - 390,000
[Week 46, 2011] HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED ANNIVERSARY – 48,000
[Week 45, 2012] HALO 4 (MICROSOFT) - 336,000
[Week 46, 2014] HALO: THE MASTER CHIEF COLLECTION (MICROSOFT) – 96,000
[Week 44, 2015] HALO 5: GUARDIANS (MICROSOFT) - 150,000

I feel this is quite a worry that Halo has become more niche and sold to a more core base tban a wider audience - this is supposed to be their flagship franchise.

// Mod Edit:

Here are some examples of how digital downloads have done as reported by publishers themselves. There are two 2014 examples and two 2015 examples if you want to see the trend and recent data:

Witcher 3: 25% of total sales http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1116442 (Keep in mind this is a major PC franchise)
Ubisoft in 2014 on PS4/XB1: 10% http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=852745
EA in 2014 on PS4/XB1: 10-15% http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=860335
EA 2015 with Battlefield Hardline PS4/XB1 (similar game to Halo): 20% http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1041340

I've talked to people in the industry who have said week one can be a bit higher (30% being quite generous, as that's usually only a day 1 type of figure), but not much higher.

Not surprising with how Halo 4 shipped, but 5 sounds alright so maybe sales will bounce back up with 6.

well xbone is not the lead like 360 and this is hot off the heels of Halo MCC, so negative word of mouth about MCC probably hit sales hard. id imagine Halo 6 will do better.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Need a Polygon graph to fully comprehend it.

Honestly thats not surprising in a post Destiny world - games like CoD and Battlefield have been eating away Halos lunch for years now anyway...so still good numbers considering the competition and the One isnt the No. 1 homeconsole anymore.

Console digital in the UK maybe adds an additional 10/20% to total sales and yes halo 5 bundles would be added in this chart as well

And this is why I shake my head when posters, mocoworm for one, say that Microsoft chose to do away with the CoD deal.

343i's Halo is nowhere near as popular as CoD is. Heck, current Halo is nowhere near as popular as Bungie's Halo.

Saw on Reddit this morning that Halo 5 is one of Amazon's Best Selling Video Game of 2015

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2015/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_bsar#1

I'm still of the belief that a lot of people would have went digital for Halo 5 as its the kind of game that you'll keep on your hard drive for the entire generation.

Don't know if its time to write the obituary just yet.

Your using retail Amazon sales to make a case for digital sales. Digital sales are a scarecrow; if we compare Halo 4 and MCC which also were released in a recent time we can see its not great for Halo 5.

Digital sales are not new and a collection game sold 2/3rds of the mainline entry. Not great.

No. It is at least connected to an installbase sissue Halo 3 moved consoles and also the PS3 wasn't that well liked as the PS4

I absolutely think a big issue is not moving consoles. MCC vs 5 shows its lost wider appeal - but this is not a install base issue - this is Halo not selling those systems anymore - might be down to the competition but its still not competing well.

It's still shockingly bad gowans, real bad numbers for a game so heavily advertised and hyped. Attach rate is really low.

It's numbers that are very much in line with the Master Chief collection, and fact is digital is not only a factor this generation, but is a factor with MUCH larger margins for Microsoft than retail.

Digital delivers Microsoft the entire retail margin. That's immense.

But yeah, look at the Halo 4 numbers and you'll see just what absurd things the Xbox 360's absurd install base could do, almost matching Halo 2 despite a markedly different reception. Halo 2 was just about the only game in town in its era, no Call of Duty back then.

Destiny sold about the same on XB1 alone. Titanfall with a much smaller base only did 25k less.

See now this is real talk. Relatively speaking Halo 5 is doing much worse, that's evidence we can believe in.

Reading these threads it seems some are finding it hard to believe H5 sold relatively bad. Maybe now they will realize people weren't trolling when they said there wasn't much hype for the game and that the market had changed in regards to FPS and that the Halo brand had taken some hits.

OK, so it is time to write the obituary then?

You had a good run Chief but its time to pack it in.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Retail sales numbers have become relatively meaningless.

Especially for online multiplayer games where likely even more consumers prefer to buy the digital version, in order to hop in quickly into a spontaneous match.

Quite the title. States something as fact and then post says does not actually have numbers to prove it lol.

Regardless, with the lower xb1 base in the UK in not sure what the expectations were.

Also does this count digital?

In the UK? I like to give more people credit to not pay the digital tax we have.
UK charts already include bundles?

They do indeed. Watch dogs is 9 in the charts due to the ac bundle that includes it

Yet the 360 with a similar install base is able to have Halo 3 sell 220k more.

That is not true. Digital sales are not nearly enoug to call retail charts meaningless.
On consoles that is.

Edit: In 2014, germany's digital sales were at 9 %.

I think your over estimating distal sales even more so in the uk when we get so many good deals at retail and largely people are sill on terrible broadband speeds.

Assassin's Creed had a weak launch, Halo had a weak launch. Maybe it's time to ask what is going on in the UK if another game fails to connect? Are UK consumers losing confidence in release quality, going digital or simply spending their money else where?
