Bar a few exceptions, this is pretty much the default setting now.

The biggest question is, to single format owners only........does it actually really matter?

Why would I think what?, I was seriously curious to know if towards the end of these consoles life cycles if devs could get more out the Xbox One to finally match the PS4 on multiplats. I am also curious to know if 900p games on PS4 will eventually be able to hit 1080p. Like will we ever see a battlefield game at 1080p on the PS4 or no is that impossible because of the hardware?

At the same hypothetical point of time developers can also squeeze more out of the PS4. You can't make up for the hardware gap.

Don't kill me for being curious about how console optimizations will work in the future.

Even if you believe xbox games will be better optimized in the future (they will), you're assuming ps4 optimization will stand completely still for xbox to 'catch up'

I hope they'll let me download the extra 180 p's. I don't think I'll be able to enjoy the game without them.

There will be a ceiling for both correct? its just one will hit its ceiling allot sooner then the other? I am not assuming anything! I am asking questions about things I am unsure about and listening to the response.

I'm guessing 30fps on both consoles, and 60 on PC? Woooo boy, another 900p debacle. I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun on regardless of platform!
What does 60 on pc even mean? Like pc isn't really tied to any set specs. Most people steam have pretty shitty parts so their probably running their games on the lowest settings possible.

So slightly better looking on PS4, and slightly better performance on X1.

Seems about normal these days.

That's usually not the case though. Most times its higher res and higher performance, like battlefront and GTA5

That said, there are outliers sure, but those are exception rather than the rule.

To add,

MSFT may have an edge on software development for their firmware updates, etc, and that will translate well into their optimizations for the hardware performance no doubt, but one thing is for sure, and Sony is no slouch as well with their ICE team and hardware optimizations either. They did magic with the PS3. The gap will always remain, unless third party decides on 'parity'.

XB1 is a car that goes 100 miles an hour top speed and PS4 has top speed of 125. How can one ever match the other?

I dunno man, I heard one was more balanced than the other. May help when it is time to turn the corner.

XB1 is a car that goes 100 miles an hour top speed and PS4 has top speed of 125. How can one ever match the other? The driver of Xbox can learn how to drive it better but so will drivers of PS4. The actual gap cannot be negated because it is a real, physical constraint.

Every game could look/perform better on PS4. If it doesn't the developer either aimed for parity or game is undemanding enough that both handle it equally well.

The gap will be there the entire gen, mostly XB1 version will be inferior in some way (maybe resolution like this, maybe fps stability, etc, etc). Can people please accept this? Mostly it doesn't detract from the games (sometimes it does which is why comparisons are useful for dual console owners) but fundamentally "it is what it is".

Because of the hardware the ceiling of the PS4 is above what the ceiling of Xbox One can ever achieve.

Except for Batman Arkham Knight, Need for Speed, The Witcher 3 (latest patch) or other recent games where this argument is false. They all run in higher resolution and higher framerate on PS4. Just look up Digital Foundry articles and have fun reading.

Fuck, I bought those to play video games!

Let's not even turn it into such a straw man. Someone asked about performance and why XB1 could never match the PS4's in general regardless of software updates and optimization.

Its pure linear hardware power. It has nothing to do with what you like to play in terms of gaming. Nothing about this thread should hurt people on XB1 who enjoy XB1 or its games. Just like nothing on higher tiered PC's should hurt console gamers who like to play on console. The hardware is what it is.

PS4 and Xbox One are nutella jars. PS4 is a bigger jar than XboxOne and depending on optimisation, devs are either scrapping them with a fork or a with a flexible spatula.

But do you really want to eat an entire jar of nutella?

This makes no difference,

You guys DO realise that it will still output in 1080p on XB1 right?

Both will look and play brilliantly but if a game is multiplatform then pc version has to be chosen. Triple screen or 4k trumps all.
