Mushihimesama (Steam) |OT| More "bugs" than Batman!

Set Mushihimesama to use my laptop's Nvidia GPU, and now with GeDoSaTo the game runs at 67FPS at all times, which can be easily limited to perfect 60FPS.
Well done Durante.

Well, now that I got it to work and played 1 run on original/normal (I have to leave, sadly), I have to state for the record that this game is just as slick as I remember it to be. The controls, the enemy and bullet patterns, the music, the art. Sogood.gif

Woo!

And it gets past the start screen and plays and such so far, works with my stick too. Doesn't seem to launch unless I set a virtual desktop, so I just made a bigger one after that and use OS X's screen zoom to fill the screen.

same here, just finished a run on normal/original (i sucked :() and the game is super fun. Bring back so much memories of Japan.

Played around for a little bit tonight with a 360 controller. I'll get the Hori stick out tomorrow and really dig in. Just having a Cave game on Steam is great in itself, and I'm glad the bugs (lol) are being looked into and addressed.

Just a note regarding refunds for those who jumped early when the game was on sale prior to the launch discount being applied (like I did): I wanted to test the waters with Steam refunds having never requested one before, so put in a claim having played for around 40 minutes. Steam refunded me within 2 hours, with the funds going to my Steam wallet as requested (I paid with Paypal). I'm not sure if that sped the process up, but the amount is currently pending and may take 'up to 7 days' to go in. I'll repurchase the game bundle at the cheaper price, but I may need to do that prior to the money being available if that hasn't happened before the sale price window ends. Not a big deal if so.

tl;dr - Steam will refund you if you bought the game while the discount wasn't applied (and you haven't exceeded the valid playing time amount to be eligible for a refund)

1.2M points, 5 continues, bleh. Gonna have to try harder than that.

The stage where you kill off a very long bug section by section was super cool.

Anime tits are weird, but whatever. Sprites look great although I have no idea how large my hitbox is, lol.

Loving the purchase so far and I say that as someone who has touched about one arcade shooter other than this.

Edit: jesus fuck how am i supposed to dodge all this crap

Are leaderboards working? Some of them drop off with really low scores at rank 4x.

edit: ahh I get it, you need to be playing Score Attack

Looking forward to playing this more tonight. 1CC run of the first two levels here we come!

Never played this Cave before - had other 360 ports - and it seems great.

Also put a card drop up for £2.00 as I was first and wanted to test how the Steam economy works. It sold. Crazy.

Anime tits are weird, but whatever.

Yes. Some of the portraits in Deathsmiles were teeth drying.

Sprites look great although I have no idea how large my hitbox is, lol.

I'll check this tonight. In Deathsmiles it was your heart so you used that as the centre point.

It didn't take long for my eyes to readjust to a Cave game last night. When I actively think about it I'm not looking at the enemy or my ship directly, but just above my ship with everythign else in me peripheral vision. Odd and I've probably failed to explain that well.

The hitbox is the blue dot in the middle of your sprite, but keep in mind that bullets also have a hitbox that's smaller than their sprite, so you can touch the bullets... but not too much :)

The framerate problem is weird, I played all 360 games on my PC monitor and never had problems with tearing/stuttering. Whatever black magic M2 used, they need to pass it to Degica.

Welp, time to set up gedosato on this badboy.

Edit: The game just instantly crashes for me when running gedosato. Why is this?

Edit 2: Nvm, fixed it by randomly enabling some of the compatibility settings. Though and FPS cap of 60 left me around 58-59 most of the time. I set it to 61 and it seems fine now.

I love how the bullet patterns get progressively worse inside of a single attack. Lots of 'nope' moments. This game is going to bring out a lot of bad language in me.

Is it me, or is the ship movement speed really slow?

Feels like stock Gradius speed at times...

Might be just that I played too much of Crimzon Clover...

What is the player sprite anyway? I'm assuming it's the titular princess, but is there an illustration of what you're controlling somewhere? The whole thing, I mean, not just her.

Also, the OST sound quality is pretty good. Is that lossless quality, or similar? I am tempted to use the boss theme for an alarm on something... Just the right amount of weird without being annoying.

Are you holding "shot" all of the time? Try holding auto for faster movement...

Or just tap the shot button instead of holding it. You don't have to tap quickly so don't worry if you're not Super Turbo Button Guy.
The game has an auto fire button. I just alternate between holding one or the other if I want to change movement speed without stopping firing.

Yep I actually just always hold auto, then put another finger on shot when I want to slow down.

Forgot to mention, different shot types can also have different movement speed depending on game mode. W Power moves the slowest, I believe.

The player sprite is Reco (the princess) riding on Kiniro (her bug).

Buying the OST put both FLAC and MP3 versions of the soundtrack in the game folder.

I kind of don't really know what to do with the 2 rapid fire buttons.
I just use Full auto and Shot, that's what I'm used to in my very sporadic forays into the genre.

I think I should stop avoiding bomb usage, though, even if I don't want to start using continues, even if limited (at least for the first 2 stages).

Mushihimesama has strange auto fire options because the rate of fire has scoring implications. It was apparently common for some arcades in Japan to implement different auto fire buttons with different rates of fire, and the port tried to accommodate this. I think it's not something you really have to worry about unless you are chasing the top 5% of scores though.

Other ports simply have shot/bomb/auto fire/action button mappings and leave it at that.

I get the same thing. Will try out Durante's suggestion, but maybe the problem is that we both have second monitors?

Hmm. I get a black screen when trying to go fullscreen, and have to do a hard reboot to fix it, and I'm using a second monitor (connected to my laptop).

Regarding firing, I've noticed the three fire rates affect your speed and helpers differently.

Normal (slow) fire has your helps shot a beam attack additionally. I don't see this with Rapid fire. One of them locks the helpers by your side, whilst the others allow them to move a little freely. I like these little nuiances in Cave games.

Also, the options even let you set the gap rates of the fire modes if you want to get very technical.

Anyone that has the crash on "Press Z or Start" screen try running the game as admin (windowed too if it matters) it cleared up the crash for me yesterday. :)

Well, you also get the most powerful shot (holding A+ and C together) using autofire, so it's a little more than just "for score". For players who don't use autofire you want to hold C down and continually tap A to achieve the same result, but you want to tap at a speed that doesn't put you in focus (hold down A) shot.

Generally, you want to have an additional two buttons, an A+ and a C+, but some more complicated setups might have two different C+ that are firing at different rates.

Just for clarification, what are A, B and C?

I assume A is shot, B is bomb and C is autofire. Might be wrong about C but I don't have the game in front of me.

Now that I didn't know. How does one normally map this on a six button stick layout?

That is correct!

No problem! :)

When I was playing I set up my 6B panel like this:

A B C
A+ empty C+

But if you're more comfortable with it flipped (A B C on the bottom, autofire on top) I can understand that. After that, you simply need to adjust the rates of fire on each + button.

Oh man, now I want to install wine on my linux desktop to...

EFF IT I'M DOING THIS

I've been messing with GeDoSaTo's settings but the game still runs 55-57 fps. Maybe I'm missing some steps:

-set Nvidia scaling to GPU in the control panel
-added default || Mushihimesama to the whitelist
-edit config\GeDoSaTo.ini
-renderResolution 1920x1080@60
-presentWidth 1920
presentHeight 1080
presentHz 60
-fpsLimit 60

Still measuring 56 fps. :(

EDIT: Now I see the actual problem, GeDoSaTo isn't working with any of the games I have. I'm such a noob :(

I really wish people would talk about the actual game instead of complaining about 2-3 FPS missing. :p

It's a shooter. That's one of the MAIN selling points is not having FPS issues. It is messing with people's eyes. It's like trying to laugh off a fighting game being a constant 56 FPS instead of 60. It is talking about the actual game because it is affecting gameplay for some. Good job for you that your eyes aren't sensitive to this.

I'm usually super cheap when it comes to digital purchases, but just picked up the game anyway ... for various reasons:

- CAVE ON STEAM, must support this in order to signal "MORE, PLEASE"
- I'm sure they will post-launch support this release, not too worried about bugs
- Not thrilled about internally locked 720p, but GeDoSaTo will make do

Yeah, whatever is going on with the framerate isn't bound by refresh rate.

Gotta admit, I'm impressed by the Steam review community.

Could've sworn the top reviews were going to be about Reco's lack of undergarments.

GeDoSaTo fixes it though. (And I have no idea why)

Well, "fixes" by making the game run at ~66 FPS without any further limitations, which can be reduced nicely to 60 by e.g. V-sync :p

Do you have Windows 8+ and secure boot enabled?

How are people getting GeDoSaTo to work? The usual black bar that pops up in my game letting me know that sampling is activated doesn't show and the game still renders at 720p. I've got "default" in the white list and set up the render resolution to 1080p@60hz. I even changed the .ini file in the game's folder.

Does it need to be disabled?

If the crowd that thinks this is one of the main selling points of a shooter are the only people that buy this game, then Cave are absolutely fucked.
