So while that's not great, it's not exactly terrible. But goddamn is what that video showed ugly as hell. Jesus Christ, Bethesda.

The graphics are mediocre, the dialogue is bad, the performance sucks...

I'm very curious as to what makes these games so beloved. The RPG elements must be outstanding.

The Witcher 3 generally had a better framerate because the ps4 version's framerate would lock to 20fps. ACU is an odd one, the ps4 version ran better during cutscenes and the xbox one version ran better during gameplay.

It's never this, come on man, people need to stop saying that.

People don't seem to understand just how hard it is to develop these games. It's never lazy devs. If anything, it's deadlines set by publishers and trying to do too much in too little time.

So...framerate IS bad (direct quote), load times are long ass and bugs galore = fine ?
..by Bethesda standards, I guess?

There's an edit you purposely ignored and I suggest you read it.
Maybe people won't quote you en masse if you don't compare video games to pedophiles

This sounds even worse lol

Keeping footage away from prospective customers.

For every video they pull like this that is showing something negative, they are also pulling dozens of videos that are basically free advertising. Zenimax does this shit even if every video is about how amazing the game is. They're basically the soup nazi of pre-release media.

Lead is not always console... given the dev's pedigree, the PC version is probably lead platform, and both XB1 and PS4 are ports.
but we are seeing resolution and asset parity so far. Either that 30% power deficit means the game runs at 20fps with dips or we get framerate parity aswell

Add in the fact they practiced on the Xbox one before hand means this will probably be the version to get.

I'm excited for the DF thread

For people claiming that the XB1 will perform better:

Is there a precedent for this? What game performed better on the XB1 because they had the marketing arrangement?

I remember when Assassin's Creed Black Flag had exclusive marketing with Microsoft, and the PS4 version shipped in 900p. The game shipped on Ocotober 29th 2013. All the reviews were done, comparisons were done. Then, on November 20th, a patch for the PS4 released that made it 1080p.

I am not saying it is some type of Conspiracy, I just remember that was pretty interesting for sure. Add that to AC Unity and The Witcher 3, that both performed better at launch on Xbox One, only to be updated to later run as well (ACU) or better (Witcher 3) on PS4, and you can see where the whole "games that MS have exclusive marketing seem to run better on Xbox One hehe" narrative came from.

I am not saying I agree with that narrative at all, I am just trying to explain some of the "evidence" that feeds that narrative.

....that looks totally fine.

I saw this thread title and my heart sank because I pre-ordered it yesterday for the free mug from Amazon uk (it was the mug that swung it because I just broke my favourite coffee mug and needed a new one and I never usually pre-order games, ever).

But I remembered I made it through Skyrim on the PS3, so if it's as bad as that I know I can make it, and if it's better it's a bonus. You know what you're getting into with Bethesda, basically a shitty janky mess. So if you're ok with that you can still have fun with their games.

Ah, so PS4 will possibly get the same treatment. If they can patch the bad FR, you would hope it would come near release. How strange.

Think I'm gonna wait on pulling the trigger...

Good thing Tomb raider is out on the same day!

Pretty sure Beth and reviewers know. Also pretty sure XB1 > PS4 in this case.

What evidence points to either version being better at this point?

I really do not understand what would make you be "pretty sure" the Xbox 1 version runs better, considering the way this generation is going. Unless you believe the exclusive marketing parity narrative.

I gotta admit, this may have been my first time seeing gameplay of Fallout 4. This almost looked like a battlefield FPS type thing to me. Maybe it's because of the sprint and the camera bob.

Anyway, yeah that framerate thing will wear on your eyes and cause headaches. This is bad for a lot of people, especially if you plan to play the game for long sessions.

BF had Sony marketing.

ACU wasn't that odd at all. The PS4 version was far more rushed than the Xbox One version and didn't have as much optimization (it was effectively a beta-like release on the PS4). After a couple of months extra work, and four patches later, the two versions became more like and like. While they may have put more effort into the Xbox One version due to the marketing deal as that was the version that they demoed, they almost definitely didn't mean for the PS4 version to be so crippled (effectively hurting the sales for the next title in the franchise), and there isn't some MS marketing conspiracy to cripple the PS4 versions of games. It's ludicrous.

Has it been confirmed that it runs better on XB1 or is that just speculation? I have a hard time believing that that's the case especially when both versions are running at 1080p. If that's true, I will be very surprised.

Digital Foundry, get to work on the face-off.

That does seem pretty bad. Imagine playing the game and having those drops every 10 or 20 seconds. Hopefully they fix this but there never really fixed the fps on Skyrim ps3( or FO3 and NV if were being honest), just made it so that your game wouldn't crash if you had a large save file. Should definitely make any ps4 owners think twice before buying at least until the patches come out.

You remember wrong. It had a Sony marketing deal, and the 900p resolution was a bug (as in, not intended).

AC4 black flag had a marketing deal with Sony. It had the Aveline missions, a demo playthrough at Sony's e3 conference, and i'm pretty sure a bundle as well.

Your memory is incorrect. AC Black Flag had Sony marketing.

There goes your theory...

To be fair Unity still runs better on xbone even after the latest patches. People needs to recheck DF video. Of course ps4 was improved but xbone still seems more stable.

Speculation.

People can't be bothered to wait a couple days to actually figure this out apparently. "Tales from my ass" seems to be the preferred method at this juncture.

Get on that shit DF!
