Rodea the Sky Soldier |OT| NiGHTS & Punishment~The last good Wii game is in captivity

Thanks Lupin the Third and SatoAilDarko for the heads up. I may have to make some moves if my local store doesn't live up to their word.

I kind of just want the Wii version. Too bad they don't offer this on the eshop.

i think because it's wii, it's more of an issue for virtual console. because it's virtual console, it's a much more strict process than putting something up on the eshop.

that said, this would probably do well on the virtual console.

It's really interesting they include the Wii version in the initial release. Might get it, since it's pretty interesting game development wise.

So, what would be a good game to compare the Wii version to quality wise?

I don't expect it to be up there with the likes of Little King's Story and Zack & Wiki, but is it at least as good as stuff like MadWorld, and not in the same ranks as say, Epic Mickey?

Deciding if this is worth a place in my Wii collection or not, but maybe I should ask again in a few more days and give people some time to take it in :p

During the prologue, I fell off and anger to catch myself before falling off, but it took like 3 minutes to get back on the path...
I hope this isn't the norm.

i can't speak to the wii version of the game because that lacks camera control outside the pointer controls (i really miss the nunchuk for this game). for the wii u version, i recommend using the right stick on the camera and pushing the y button while not pushing on the left stick. y + left stick = dodge, which won't let rodea jump straight up.

My special edition just shipped from Nintendo Store UK.

man. the last piece of the puzzle.

this game was something of a challenge, apparently. multiple languages in-game (french and german subs in addition to english subs and voices), three versions being done at once with different character limits, and the dual-disc wii u case which only existed for bayonetta 2 prior, i believe. all that in addition to getting all units and components in place for the limited edition of the game, and across several regions in europe and in the us.

Bought it off Amazon. Didn't even know it existed, but I love the Unleashed/Generations 3D Sonic gameplay, and this seems like a mixture of that and NiGHTS. And I'm a Sonic fanboy so sign me up for whatever game that involves Yuji Naka.

Also seems like a no brainer collector's item.

Anybody playing the 3DS version?

i did. the lack of a camera control isn't great (just the l and r buttons and some touch screen stuff to center the camer), but the game is the same otherwise. if you really like 3d then it could be for you, but i think it's the least impressive version of the game. i personally would go with the wii u version if i could.

Curious about any framerate differences between Wii U and 3DS? Is Wii U more stable?

The game really isn't like Sin & Punishment at all
except for Chapter 21
. You should've called it NIGHTSity Rush or something.

Why shouldn't you? It's just an extra.

It's like returning Bayonetta 2 with the Bayonetta 1 disc missing. They come together as a set and are not being sold separately at retail. It's only a little better than buying a piece of electronics, opening the box and filling it with rocks, resealing it and then returning it at a store to take advantage of some unsuspecting customer.

No, it only matters if GameStop sells the used product as rodea wiiu+Wii.

If they sell the game as being wiiu only its no deception to the buyer.

Edit: it looks like they may not even have the game listed for trade yet.

And I bought this thinking it was a sin and punishment style game.. I think I'll return it for battlefront next week.

When I traded in Bayonetta 2 to ebgames, they gave me a trade value for 2 and a separate trade value for 1. So the possibility of selling just the wii u version of rodea and keeping the wii version isn't that outlandish.

Bob Mackey laid into this pretty hard.

But it also sounds like he only played the wiiU version.

I'm considering returning mine since its still sealed. I still need to get the two earth defense force games coming out before end of the year..

i'm impressed with how many people are having difficulty with the control on the wii u, but seem to get it on the wii. maybe because the wii controls are just the wii remote, it's inherently obvious that there will be a learning curve. once it clicked on the wii u/3ds, i had no problem playing the game.

sin & punishment this is not though. saying it's sonic with flight (or even sonic meets nights) is far more accurate. it owes more to platforming games than on-rail shooters, but isn't really a platformer either. it's kinda like how soul bubbles isn't really a platformer but sure feels like one.

Yeah I kind of bought it blindly because of the odd story about the Wii version but honestly should have read more. I thought it was a rail shooter with platform mechanics.

My copy of the limited edition is showing up tomorrow but i probably wont be able to get around to checking it out till the weekend. Really interested to give both console versions a shot.

Got a late game power up which kind of breaks the game. The combat scenarios were fun when you'd home attack an enemy and finish it off with the gun. Then the gun got upgraded to use up more bullets and do more damage which is less satisfying and then this which makes homing a bit too simplified. Not sure if I like that.

WiiU version? I know in the Wii version you get temporary power-ups, while in the WiiU one you get permanent upgrade powers.

Anyone know where to get the parts for the level 3 speed upgrade? Haven't gotten an upgrade for that in awhile.
Yeah, Wii U.

this is a good question.

i wanted to upgrade rodea more than i did (i like being able to decorate the ship even if it seemingly doesn't serve a purpose other than to use resources). speed was the only one that was stuck at level 2 for me. there's a bit of this game that reminds me of sonic and the secret rings.

Well reviews on the wii version here have been overwhelmingly positive. Also even the games creator, Yuji Naka, denounced the wii-u version! Plus this game may go up exponentially in price do it it being such a niche title, so yo may regret returning it.

watching other people play the wii u game is painful. sure, there's a lot to get used to right away, but it looks like they're tapping 'a' too much or not boosting or not using the hover move or the right stick for the camera (which is a problem, sure, but not to the point where it should be game breaking). i've seen some people just give up and let rodea fall once they kick off a wall or don't hit the graviton chain instead of fly towards it. it took me about 10 minutes to get used to the controls and 30 to get some of the finer details and that was on the 3ds. i don't know where it's actually difficult other than people maybe overdoing it when it comes to moving the left stick and pushing buttons too many times.

So....is the Wii U version shit?

I caved and bought a copy at the local store cause NISA still hasn't shipped my CE. Anyone in Europe got a shipping notice from them yet?

Really enjoying the Wii one in particular so far, but the Wii U version isn't so bad either! It's kind of fun to get to approach the same stage designs in different ways between the two.

Wii version is definitely graphically better though. Getting lots of 2000s SEGA vibes from this game! Good stuff

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
So that's how an upscaled 3ds game looks like.
