Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

I'm hoping mine shipped today, it still says shipping today on Amazon and its 9pm where I'm at. Wouldn't be the first time Amazon's tracker bugged out on me though. It still thinks my copy of Space Dandy is on the way and I've had it for months.

Amazon said they're preparing to ship my guide today too and it will arrive on Friday.

Jesus, this game is missing an autosave feature. Just turned my Wii off after 5-6h exploration and grinding ... and since I hadn't manually saved ... fuck it.

I'm so excited, I'm going to pick up the game tomorrow! It released early in a certain location! A jump start in a game this massive is always beneficial.

because it's 2015 and literally every game has autosave when you fast travel / sleep / finish a mission / whatever

It's an RPG. Might have a different battle system to many of them(more action oriented), but it's still and rpg.

An RPG is the worst genre to have auto saves in. In my opinion, it's the one type of game where I make choices that I may or may not want to save after just so I can make sure something happens or to see the outcome. Auto saving can ruin that

exactly. I would never take autosave for granted in an RPG.

Autosaves are only ok with me in games if it's on a separate file and not directly copied onto your main save file in RPGs. Sometimes I make a choice or do something, then realize I didn't want to do that, so I revert back. The annoying thing about this game is apparently there's only 1 save file per account which is so stupid.

DA:I handled it perfectly. You were free to save whenever you wanted, PLUS it would auto-save every time you travelled using the world map, entered a dungeon, or completed a mission. You had as many manual slots as you needed, plus an autosave slot, as well as a backup autosave slot.

This is definitely the best way to do it imo, Best of both worlds.

Yikes, I didn't realize how hyped I was for this....time has slowed down and tomorrow evening when my download hopefully unlocks seems like forever away....

So amazon basically said, "bitch, just wait for your damn game on Monday." I feel depressed now.
This is why I went to GameSTOP for the first time in years.

Though, seeing as how I have a test on Monday, this might have not been the best idea :S

You still have one more day to study for it!

If it's anything like the original game it just spits you back out and doesn't give you a game over if you die, making auto save basically pointless anyway. The only thing permanent is if you fail to get a perfect on the QTE that happens when your robutt gets destroyed.

Has anyone else ordered the collectors edition through Best Buy? Mine is still "Preparing your item for shipping". If I'm supposed to get it on Friday, that gives them a day of shipping? What the hell? Anyone else like this?

I'm in the same boat, but this is normal from my experience. I usually get the items on time despite the 1 day of shipping.

haha I actually talked to CS yesterday about it, apparently even tho I preordered it the day it went up and before it even sold out the first time, its a first come first serve thing that I don't really get but when I commented on it they offered to go from free to a expedited shipping and handling and she bumped the price down from 10 to 5 so I just accepted that, I wasent gonna get the game originally until the 10th, now im getting it monday

Mine shipped yesterday morning. You might be SoL.

Ditto here. I think twice now a game has shipped the day before, and felt like no chance to get there in time, but in both instances I got it delivered in time as promised.

Yep. Most of the time my Best Buy games are shipped Next Day Air the day before. In this case, mine shipped yesterday via UPS Ground, but still scheduled for Friday delivery. Never had a game late from Best Buy, provided I have ordered it in advance and still eligible for free release date delivery.

Just played through the prologue! Fun so far. Game doesn't hold your hand at all. I had to realize I was finding upgrades off fights and go into the menu to equip them without the game telling me about that at all.

Yesss!!!!

Nooooo :(

Small sample size, but 50/50 shot it seems. Actually at this point, I'm just hoping that best buy doesn't pull a "oh, we actually can't fulfill this order" since this is a collector editions and we all know how much of a rush that was to get one :(

Amazon hasn't shipped my copy yet and now I'm afraid I won't get it by Friday morning like I usually do with all new releases. Why does it have to be this game?

If the game had a separate autosave files, wouldn't the mech insurance thing be pointless? Players would just restart if their mech was about to be destroyed. There would be absolutely no consequences in this game with a separate autosave file.

Unless it autosaved over your one file after mech death and we know that is not desirable in this type of game.

Mines on its way for Friday and I just preordered it earlier this week after cancelling my collectors edition. The game as whole has weird launch shipping issues, getting the game 4 days earlier is the main reason why I did it.

As someone that has my UPS packages delivered to a business that has, you know, business hours, Nintendo's maddening insistence on Friday releases drives me nuts.

Because usually that just means my Friday packages won't arrive until Monday.

I feel like there will end up being a separate thread for showing off your character and skells, lol.

I wouldn't be opposed to it.. :p

Is there a difference between getting disc version w/ data packs or going full digital?

EDIT: Shit I thought this was the preload thread not the review thread my bad!

is it just hype or will this game at least outsell Bayonetta 2 in the west?

I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't necessarily expect it, either.

There's more Wii U owners, but far less momentum. Reviews are good, but previews killed a lot of hype for people who maybe didn't check back in for the scores. There are more options for alternative entertainment, plus Xenoblade is missing the week of/the week after Thanksgiving for some reason.

I agree with this. This game seems to be difficult and I like the fact that it limits the ways a player may take advantage of the game.

With that said... I need to remember that there's no auto save. I've grown a costumed to having auto saves. I'm likely to spend 4 hours grinding, exploring, and doing side quest and instead of dieing I would just turn off the Wii U assuming it auto saved because I'm tired or something losing all my progress.

ah good point, yeah a November release would have been better

I am kinda surprised I did not find anything I wanted more than this to play at this time as well

I guess after 3 years of waiting I just can't let go of the hype less than a day away

dude, the New 3DS version of Xenoblade outsold Bayonetta 2's first month in NPD, if this game didn't that would be a ridiculous bomba

Mine hasn't shipped yet either, and I ordered right when it went up.

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself if neither of my preorders ships tomorrow.

I might hit gamestop on friday if bestbuy doesnt ship my CE.

Anyone know if the game in the CE is the same as the standard retail copy? Maybe I can return that :(

I was kinda thinking I could cheat the game by AFK

just going to a safe spot in the world once I have the money making stuff up and just allow it to give me cash leaving the game running overnight

did they think of a way to block this? Like you have to hit a button to earn your cash?

Sucks to hear that you lost so much progress, but I'm actually happy there is no Auto-save.

I am supposed wait another day before starting the Game because I promised a friend I would start playing at her place, but I really wanna try it out for a bit, so I'm glad that there is no Auto-save to screw up the plan.

Other than that I feel your pain though :/
