Barrett looks so fucking cool and the sunglasses is a nice touch

it felt to me like a cross between FFXV and versus

The fact that people who play turn based games exclusively think that they are smarter and more refined then everyone else is incredibly tiring.

Nice job putting words in my mouth like you know who I am and you know what I play. Multiple people in this thread are saying the combat was changed to make it have a wider appeal. How is this anything I said wrong?

Final Fantasy 7 wasn't exactly Jagged Alliance or Alpha Centauri. Despite being turn-based, it was in fact aimed at the lowest common demoninator, what with all the spectacle of things like minute-long summoning cutscenes.

Yeah, and it had a chance to make the formula better this time. Now it's just another action RPG with an FF7 coat of paint.

That looked great but I'm so tired of waiting for these games. Is that Luminous or UE4? Looks quite a bit like XV. Maybe I need to watch the trailer again.

Consensus is UE4 for the Remake
because it's outsourced to another studio while Square internally are committed to FFXV and KH3
.

It's alive. I never thought I'd see the day.

Thank god they took out the turn based combat. As I got older and my attention span got worse, I literally fall asleep when I replay the old final fantasies because of the combat.

This being reflex based is going to ruin the sheer amount of options you had in battle with materia. It hasn't worked in any KH game and it sure as hell won't work here.

UGHJHHHHH

It's not going to be completely reflex based otherwise there wouldn't be a command system menu.

Thank god this remake isn't tied down to the archaic battle systems of the old game. Genuinely interested in this now.
Agree with you 100%. Fuck random battles and bullshit turn based combat from the 90s. This looks so much better to me now. No way I was going to buy it if it was just a new skin on an old game.

That was good!

So "PS4 Console Debut" confirms it will come to Xbox?
Usually, "console debut on X" means that it releases on console X, at the same time or slightly later on PC, and later on other consoles.

Of course, we have no idea what exactly it means here.

Yep, agreed 100%.

Happy this is a new spin on things.

You're asking hobbyists not on a salary to virtually rewrite large swathes of the game, then QA all the cases that a turn-based system might break the game (e.g. if anything needed you to physically move to a specific position in whatevs. encounter) and then rebalance the entire game.

Without access to the source code.

So that's a no then :(

Guess playing turn based makes you superior huh?

I don't think there's any superiority going on. I just happen to have the apparently selfish mindset of wanting a remake to remain faithful and revive the genre that's been absent for too long :(

No random battles is a fucking godsend. That shit should be thrown to the dogs and left in the garbage where it belongs.

Do we know when they started development? This is way more than I thought they would have at this point. Or maybe they've gotten better at making trailers. Either way, tears.

Also the voice acting is obviously placeholder (just that same cheapo studio that seems to do every background character in every game and also all of Bleach). Hope they don't treat it like most SE JP titles and actually do a casting call of some sort. This game absolutely deserves good voice overs, everything else about it looks mind-meltingly awesome.

Day 0 even with shitty voice acting though.

There was a scene where the screen freaked out for a second and Cloud kinda lost his head. I have a feeling those are the Sephiroth mind bending moments.

I really hope I'm wrong but I feel like it's destined to fail. Some things need to be left in the past and let the majority of people have great memories. The standard people expect can never be fulfilled with the time the big wigs in companies give developers to create it.

I was nervous, but this loos rad as hell. Hope they can keep in:

- Summons
- Materia System
- Don Corneo

No way the first two aren't in. (And placeholder or not, there's a summon icon in the UI)

And they've already said that goofy stuff like the Wall Market section is being retained.

Cloud running around with that huge ass sword on his back looks SO DUMB.

This game is going to be ready in 2025... do yall remember how large this game is? It's going to take forever.

My take: this game still isn't real until a release date.

But MAN that combat UI is sooo clean. Makes me wish Xenoblade X could copy that.

Yeah. It looks pretty off. But I think that was one of the biggest issues artistically. The original is basically anime.

Don Corneo will be back, the original scenario will be heavily edited, though.

Man, I was all excited watching that, and then they showed the battle system and they totally lost me. It looks just as bad as XV in that regard. Unless it's just a free-roam, turn-based thing.

But I don't really care to sign up for an ARPG. It's sad that they can't think of inventive ways to keep the turn-based gameplay engaging and scrap it in favor of an ARPG.

However, this looks a million times better than XV thankfully, so if I had to choose one, it'd be VII.

I'm just hoping it's not an ARPG. Please.

Didn't I say the other week we would be getting gameplay?

This has been in production for two years and they have the groundwork done since 97 + UE4.

I don't know about 2017 though, FF7 is big. Depends how they do the overworld.

If it is a shrinked map and big cloud then 2017 but if it's full on FFXV then it's 2018.

Noooo!!!!! They took away the awesome turn based battles? Wth Sony?
I must have missed the part where Sony joined the development team.
Trust me, you're not the only one. I'm probably not as pissed as you, as I had a sinking feeling that it would turn out this way and kept my expectations in check. It's a AAA game so you have to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Yeah, FF7's turn-based combat was really shooting for some high-brow, niche gamers amirite?

LMAO.

The standard is still held by the original game. This is something different and will be judged accordingly.

How do you guys know it's outsourced? Who's making it?

We don't know, but we have some pretty good circumstantial evidence. And CC2 is the best guess

FF Games have IMO the best and most expressive human characters in videogames and this one is no exception. Lot's of emotion in Cloud eyes, he truly looks alive
