Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Not a Final Fantasy fan, but went from interested to zero interest. Going to wait for this to hit bargain bin at the very least.

Ohhhhhh ya know. Maybe they're doing it like PS1 discs. Three discs. Doubt it. Man. They better give out some proper info on what this all means quick. This is quite the bummer.

Ok, actually, they said "multi-part". I doubt this is going to be episodic. They'll just release more games to tell the FF7 story.

My speculation:

Final Fantasy VII: This will be the main game
Final Fantasy VII-2: Crisis Core: Yep, a remake of Crisis Core
Final Fantasy VII-3: Maybe a post-Advent Children game?

I can only hope right now. If they actually are dividing the main FF7 story into many parts, I won't buy this game. Such bullshit will never see my money.

Where does it say episodic again?

Multi-part series could mean anything, even a FFVII-2

They're remaking FF VII, and they say that the FF VII remake is gonna be a multi-part series, so it's pretty obvious that they are splitting the original game and only.

One job.

You had one fucking job Square.

One fucking simple job that was hard to fuck up.

And you fucked it up.

Rereading the press release, the thread title is a little misleading. I don't see it anywhere confirming its going to be episodic. The release can be split like how SE handled FFXIII.

They literally cannot make final fantasy games anymore. Like, they are technically incapable.

I would happily trade graphics for a cel-shaded, proper FF game. Their graphics aren't even that impressive anymore. Just not going to happen so long as the name keeps selling as is though.

Honestly, after playing Xenoblade Chronicles X all weekend... I would love Monolith to tackle a remake of this size. At least they have the ambition and willpower to create something extremely vast.

I don't know what to think just yet.....

Episodic in like part 1 comes out, then 8 months later, part 2 comes out. That kind of episodic?

Or the full game will be told in episodes?

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS MEAN?

Why does there always have to be a god damn catch????

I KNEW IT!!!

As i was playing through the first few hours of VII again, i watched the Remake footage... and i realized that the Remake would end after the Shinra building... the level of detail they are taking it to is far too great... they are stretching things out within just thr first few moments of the game!

Then it hit me... the credits will roll after the Shinra building. And we will then need to wait for a sequal.

Be careful what you wish for, people... Sony is smart. They will chop this up into 5+ games and we will eat it up.

Sony isn't making the game, Square-Enix is. The decisions they make lie solely with them.

thanks for the laugh
sounds less like a remake, more like a cynical use of a often asked for story to peddle an episodic moneyspinner that only bears a surface level resemblance to the original.

might as well just read a crappy FFVII novelisation and play a proper RPG that wasn't mutilated at birth.

I'm wondering if Final Fantasy VII will be like Final Fantasy XIII? They released XIII, XII-2 and Lighting Returns...

Anyways, episodic it's a bad idea :(

Why, yes, I would love to play a section of Final Fantasy 7 as a shooter a la Dirge of Cerberus! Take my money!

I paid 70 dollars for FF7 when it came out. I don't even mind the milking or price gouing a la Starcraft 2 so much.

It's what this makes me think about what this remake is. Square talked about how expensive the remake would be in the past. Looking at the footage now, reading this press release, my brain instantly goes to 'Oh man this is going to be a linear set of environments rather than the world of Final Fantasy 7. It's just going to hop you from place to place, isn't it?' Because that makes total sense after how much money I imagine Square just blew on developing a massive world for FFXV and their developing of Kingdom Hearts 3.

This now makes the FF7 remake look like a weird little side project.

This makes me incredibly sad.

It's bullshit if they offer a Season Pass Disk.

YOU already know that's coming. Freaking SE and their money greed. 59.99 season pass or 79.99 for the whole game garbage like this probably. Nomura is a talentless hack IMO so this game was gonna be bad anyway.

Thing is, the press release doesn't actually use the term episodic gaming. It simply says "told across a multi-part series, each part having unique existence".

That's vague enough to not necessarily mean it's episodic in the way we think of.

You aren't wrong, but we're also all pretty good at seeing through PR-speak at this point, I feel.

If i'm wrong I'll eat crow happily, but I really do think that means FF7 itself being in episodes.

They better not remove locations. Not going to bother with a half assed remake.

I'll be surprised if there is a world map section or any kind of free roam at this point. You don't want to force people to have all of the old episodes to be able to "jump into the epic retelling of a timeless story", after all.

How's a game with a giant open world done in episodic content? I got a bad feeling a lot of the original game is going to get cut.

I mean, what details could make this sound okay?
what I posted sounds perfectly fine.

FF7 will be one game but there will be more prequel remakes and post game content telling the overall story. They have a lot of lore between crisis core, ff7, advent children, etc...

They plan on retelling the entire story but ff7 will still be its own game. That not only would be ok, it would be great.

WTF is this bullshit? Are they trying to milk it, or release it earlier or do they mean new games / spin offs???

Famitsu article mentions FFVII has sold "11 million or more" units through software shipments and downloads, not sure if they're counting all rereleases or just the original PS one (the later seems to be the case).

There's also that cool theme.

They're remaking FF VII, and they say that the FF VII remake is gonna be a multi-part series, so it's pretty obvious that they are splitting the original game and only.

What if "FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE" is the name for a project as a whole, and also encompasses something like, I dunno, a Crisis Core remake?

I'm just spitballing but the PR is vague enough that it's just as likely as being episodic.

I'll just take my Cloud in Smash Bros. and maybe mosey away from this, my most dreamed remake...unless they package this properly. Thank you Square Enix for ruining another classic just like Blizzard did with Starcraft 2.

I feel like this would end up hurting SE the most ?

There's no way an episodic release would sell as much as a full, retail release VIIR would.

Its gonna be front loaded to the first episode and interest might wane gradually.

Unless this is a simplified linear reduction of FF7
