ACE COMBAT 7 (Bandai Namco, Project Aces, UE4) coming to Playstation 4 & PSVR

looking it up..it seems like strangereal is just the fan name for the fictional world that inhabited AC 2-6, and the developers just stuck with it
I was indeed wondering if maybe the developers were now going along with that misconception, and...

Ace Combat: Northern Wings mentions Strangereal as the world's name. I think it's the only game to mention the name.

Interesting. I wonder if whoever wrote that bit was simply mistaken as many Western fans apparently are (that particular game was never released in Japan), or if the developers have truly adopted that moniker for their fictional world, by now.

Anyway, Kanno mentioning "the strangereal" in his tweet doesn't necessarily mean what many people think it does.

Maybe it doesn't. It should be noted though that the Su-30 in the released screenshot has the Erusean emblem and in the trailer the F-22 has a Osean roundel.

Yes, I said as much there, and if I had to bet, personally, I'd put my money on the game being set in the same world as the rest of the numbered series, myself.
It's just that many people are apparently interpreting that tweet as a confirmation that's the case (and refer to it when others ask about the setting of the game) when it might not be the intent. It seems not too many Western fans know that "strangereal" isn't (or, at the very least, wasn't always?) the name of that fictional world, so I thought I'd point that out.

i've always figured that every ac fan knew that strangereal wasn't the -actual- name of the world, but an expression of the concept adopted by the community as a shorthand for describing it.

Anyone play AC4 or 5 on PCSX2? Do they run well enough?
Going to try and get them set up with my Thrustmaster stick.

no, but they're more than worth tracking down a ps2 for, trust me.

Last I tried on this release no, no they don't play well at all. You can kind of play but would be best to just use a PS2 or OG 3.

tried 4 some time ago. planes war just black, not details for some reason.. :/

Yeah. Im getting all kinds of issues. Even at default settings, it just slows down to a crawl sometimes. This saddens me.
I guess Ill try to find my old PS2. No idea where it even is.

Mobius 1 is the best Ace pilot to exist.

Fight me

The three pilots from the ps2 trilogy could go toe toe in skills. I have a soft spot for Blaze though, then Cipher, because both have a story and even if you never hear them, the way other talk about them you know they really exist in this world. Mobius 1 has zero personality, so i really dont give a fuck about him personally, he could be a goat inside that plane and it would be the same thing.
You care more about the kid telling the story and the rival than him. I dont really want to have that type of character again. Even Assault Horizon Legacy's Phoneix has more character than him.

Not actually that important
you're an handsome man.

unfortunately, namco's ps3 games don,t even support flight sticks. thrustmaster even made pdfs to tell you how to remap the stick around the wonky Assault Horizon/Infinity control scheme.

I know that, which is why I said "even with only *partial* support". I'd be fine having to remap stuff again like for Horizon :p

Or my neGcon ;)
Hoping they do a new fight stick bundle.
I have the Hori stick that came with AC5 and a Thrustmaster Hotas X for PC but I'd be really surprised if they supported either.
The Hotas X works on PS3 so I guess that's my best shot but I'm not too big of a fan of its quality.

wait did you actually play the ps1 games with a neGcon

I,m curious because multiple sites mention air combat and ac2 support it, but they never say how it actually controls. Does the twist controls the throttle, roll, yaw or..?

ah ok

It would be nice if AC7 included an alternate control scheme with the right stick mapped to the throttle and yaw (like Blazing Angels or Battlefield). Not because I like that type of control on a pad, but because it would allow proper throttle controls on a flight stick instead of the awkward non-analog input Infinity and Assault Horizon have.

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
I need to see gameplay before I get excited. Those last games were so fucking bad.

wait Infinity still uses the fucked up scheme? Hopes are dwindling then lol ... :(

I honestly can't wait not only for this game but for PSVR. I was fortunate enough to play Rigs and Eve Valkyrie. Amazing stuff man and it works.

PSX 2015: ACE COMBAT 7 REVEALED

Just in time for the 20th anniversary.
During the PlayStation Experience today, Bandai Namco revealed a new entry in its Ace Combat series, Ace Combat 7, for PlayStation 4.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/12/05/psx-2015-ace-combat-7-revealed

It's been a long time :)

+1. This was one of the skimpiest trailers in the series' history.

Compare: Ace Combat Zero: https://youtu.be/uzBO0XV6Jps

Ace Combat 5: https://youtu.be/6u2PkFBe26E

Ace Combat distinguished itself with trailers that showcased both lore and gameplay. But this... I dunno. Still excited for the game but hopefully we get something substantial in the coming months.
The trailer for AC6 got me into the series (I only played the first one previously) and I've been a big fan ever since.

Back then I assumed/hoped the woman would be the player character pilot and the story would be coherent. Good thing the graphics, sound and gameplay was top notch.

I talked to Adam, the blonde spiky haired guy with glasses who announced the trailer for AC7, and he said he went to Japan and saw the game in the works. Apparently clouds will be pretty important in this game (In the trailer they mention clouds 2 or 3 times). The enemy can hide from you and vice versa and they will also seriously inhibit visibility. So you will have to adjust your tactics for the weather.

Dude, PlayStation VR exclusive.

No idea whether this will even be playable without the headset.

Of course it'll be playable without the VR headset. It'll just be exclusive to PSVR, thus not being a feature for Oculus or Vive, if the game should ever come to PC - that is if the clause or contract doesn't expire.

I remember this trailer too! Amazing! I watched it many times as I had it downloaded on my 360 I believe.

some info from famitsu:

-everything from the trailer was real-time.
-you can pick certain cloud in the sky and fly toward it, and the cloud will be there properly.
-The orbital elevator is the symbol of this title
-The big airship is imaginary ship that fly around and protect the orbital elevator
-PSVR is something that seems to fit the concept of flying freely in the sky, so they decided to implement right away
-development is about 20% done.

Thanks for the info.

I really want to see how cloud formations will affect gameplay since they seem to be emphasising this new mechanic.

Dog fighting through clouds in VR sounds enticing though.

This is probably the most attractive content for PSVR for me.
More than RIGS or even Summer Lesson lol

This makes me want some third party to release a PS4 compatible flight stick.

a remastered collection would even be more awesome than ac7.
i honestly don't know why Bandai Namco won't release a HD remaster of Ace Combat series,
with all these various companies releasing remastered stuff.

never even know Ace Combat games have stories or have scifi element to it. which AC considered to have the best story? I'd like to see if I can hunt the game down and try it for myself. I still have my PS2 if needed.

So probably early 2017 at best? It's going to be a long wait!

Because who wants to play multiplayer, right? Assault Horizon managed the impossible and made fun pvp in Ace Combat all thanks to dogfight mode, besides that, if you played Ace Combat 6 on higher difficulty you would know how such a chore it is because of the extremely ass missiles in the whole franchise. If they are going to remove dogfight then they will have to make missiles realistic and make them almost impossible to dodge without ecm or flares, otherwise we are going to see the infinite spiral hell again.

Dogfight mode is awesome, it works and is fun as hell, the only problem I have with it is that it is a bit too mandatory since the only way to kill marked enemies is with dogfight mode which is a bit too forced, they should leave it up to the player if he wants to use it or not.

One of these has to happen:
1) leave the missiles as they are and give us dogfight mode
2) make missiles realistic and thus make dogfight mode obsolete

Choose: you will either have extremely passive AI like we can see in Ace Combat 4,5,0, Infinity and partially in 6 or we will have competent AI that tries to actually evade your attacks and behave with a glimpse of intelligence like in Assault Horizon. The former doesn't need dogfight mode while the other one does, if we keep the missiles as they are.

Why would you think the only option is to change the weapons, or keep hot-garbage mode? Seems to be a very narrow view of the problem. You could easily make fuel a factor, or improve (or implement in this case) atmospheric effects on speed/turn radius, meaningful thrust vectoring at the cost of speed/fuel. There are many possibilities that don't involve that horrible system.

This is ace combat, it's not like we even have to go a conventional route and make weapons realistic to solve the issue. You could honestly go the complete opposite direction and put firefox reverse firing missiles or something. ;)

OMG, all real time. *drools*

But 20% development.... ._.

2017 it is... :/
