Dude, Sly was a stealth platformer. No worries about dark environments.

I do. In the style of the OG Crash 1-3. Closed corridor levels please. Avoid open world levels, they don't feel like Crash. Should help keep the budget in check too.

Yes please. This is exactly what I want. Additionally, the further they roll back the character design towards the original the better. I don't care for Crash's continually amped up cartoonification over the years. The art style of the first game was absolutely perfect to me.

Yes! Thank you!

I just dont see Activision sell a IP. They can always use it to get easy nostalga when pushing a new franchise just like Spyro was with Skylanders.

My guess is some kind of collaboration between Sony and Activsion to bring him back for the 20th anniversary

Downloadable + Limited edition boxed version for $40 or 50.
Vicarious Visions developing it. They had been working on a crash reboot that got canned and they work on skylanders that kind of reminds me of Crash in some ways.

Sony marketing it. Documentory about Crash talking to Rubin and Garvin and any other old ND vets they can get. Just like the totally awesome Jak and Daxter documentary they made for the HD collection.

And get Mark Cerny consulting on it just to have the recognisable spokes person with a connection to the old games.

Why do you guys do this to yourselves. At best we'll get a PSN flash sale for the original quadrilogy. I say this as a huge fan, let it go. And if you can, track down Twinsanity which is the best sequel Crash ever recieved.

This part is agreeable, the rest is hit or miss for me.

Twinsanity is in my eyes massively overrated, but part of that is my frustration with the community around it, who sell it up because of what it was going to be before it got cut down in size, and act like the glitches and brokenness somehow make it a better game.

That being said, just saying "I'm a fan too" doesn't really qualify you to just say "Oh, it's never happening, let it go". I wouldn't be going very far out on the limb to say I'm probably a bigger fan than you, and I would say "keep dreaming" -- yet I really have no more importance to the chances of it happening than you or anybody else does. It's kind of a silly basis for your argument. If you're one of those guys who thinks it's "sad" to watch people get excited, you're not doing them any favors by saying "let it go". It's something I guarantee they've heard before. Yeah, sometimes things people get excited about fall through or aren't happening. They can deal with it when it comes down to that. There's no harm to you in letting people enjoy the speculation while it's still in the dark.

I also think it's pretty much a given anyone who is in this day and age asking for more Crash probably played Twinsanity, by the way.

Naughty Dog is going to launch Uncharted 4 and then announce this at E3. Uncharted 4 was announced months after TLoU came out, so why not?

Okay, I know I've said Naughty Dog is a long shot -- I still believe they are... but say they WERE on this game... who do we think would lead that team? It would certainly be a smaller side team.

CEOs and heads of big studios & publishers don't sell IPs. If they sell the IP and somebody else is successful with it they will look like an idiot. It's safer to hold on to an IP and do nothing with it. Look at movie studios -- they will desperately cling to the rights to a franchise or IP forever, even when they have no intent of developing it into a movie.

I think the major sticking point with Crash is that Activision would want any new Crash game to be multiplatform, whereas Sony would want it to be exclusive.

Of course this doesn't stop marketing deals and the like, with "Console Debut" type things going on.

With Sony the far and away market leader + the obvious Sony / Crash connection I dont think it would be unreasonable for Sony to get a exclusive Crash game.

Its not exactly going to be a 100m dollar AAA blockbuster project.

Or maybe they could trade some IP's for Crash. Sony has a bunch of legacy IP that they will probably never use but could easily be revived. Like Lemmings. Lemmings seems like it would make a good mobile game for example and they are pretty iconic characters. Same with Qbert but he pops up now and again.

But the talk of selling the IP has been around for years now. If it was something it would have happened by now. Its just crazy talk. IP's rarely change hands from one healthy company to another. Gears of War is the only time I can remember it happening.

I think at best we might get a Skylanders Crash character that has timed exclusivity on PS4, or a digital-only game that has timed exclusivity on PS4. Nobody in their right mind is going to fund a $60 retail Crash game, particularly if it's only on Sony platforms.

Activision refuses to put Crash in Skylanders. They have said this in interviews. Apparently he doesn't "fit" or isn't "the same kind of character" or something like that.

My outlook is $40 dollar retail and digital. Sly 4 style game. Meaty and polished but not AAA budget.

I can see Acti agreeing on Sony to make a remake of the classic Crash trio for the 20 year anniversary since they where released on PS. Otherwise it will be a new game that is timed exclusive to PS4

That's a solid possibility. Another unkown factor that I haven't seen proposed yet is Ready At Dawn (makers of the great Daxter). They aren't first party anymore, so Yoshida technically wouldn't know what they were working on.
I find ND unlikely simply because they always had access to Jak if they wanted to make a platformer.

I feel like you're overgeneralizing the niche community that just enjoys a game. Many have praised it for reasons that aren't glitches.

Someone out there who may know more about trademarks than me may be able to help me out here --

Activision selling the IP would also probably be a complicated mess that they might view as not worth their time.

In 2013, when Activision bought itself back out of the Vivendi merger, it needed a MASSIVE sum of money to do so, and borrowed that money from the Bank of America. When they did this, they put their ENTIRE library of trademarks in the bank's hands as collateral.

If Activision were to sell the license for Crash Bandicoot, they could not complete such a sale until the time they are assigned their trademarks back from the bank, could they? You can't sell a trademark if you're currently using it as collateral, I would imagine? Despite Activision being the owner and manufacturer of the products based on the trademarks, they are technically all assigned to the Bank of America according to the USPTO.

Can IP sale occur in these circumstances? I can imagine it would be an "on-paper" contract saying that "the buyer" (in this hypothetical, PlayStation) can use them as if they own them NOW, but won't ACTUALLY be assigned the marks until the Activision loan is actually paid off and the marks are assigned back to Activision in the first place?

Food for thought, I guess.

I feel like you're overgeneralizing the niche community that just enjoys a game. Many have praised it for reasons that aren't glitches.

And those reasons are valid. I'm not overgeneralizing, I am referring strictly to the actual community that dedicates that specific time to Twinsanity and breaking it. That subset of the community can be obnoxiously vocal about it. A lot of people though have a bad habit of exaggerating the quality in certain areas. The game is good, I enjoy it, but there are a lot of flaws and I personally don't see it as "the best sequel" and I feel that it's far, far below Crash 2 as a game in general. Another problem I have is that many people like to boost the game's perceived quality by how hard TT Oxford worked on it and what their aspirations were and how much they cared about Crash. While that's all nice and good, if the final product doesn't reflect it, the game shouldn't receive so much extra praise for what it DOESN'T do just because 'they tried'. It should be praised for what it DOES do right -- which is admittedly a lot.

And for what it's worth, you'll notice I said "part" of my frustration is based off of that. It's not a large part, I was just clarifying that my biases towards the game are not ALL based on the game's actual quality, but I still consider it overrated in general anyways.

Sorry, but I don't see the overlap between the people in those two sentences.
I agree that seeing praise for its potential is annoying though. But that's another topic entirely.

We can all agree on one thing - we all want a good game out of this, regardless of what form it takes.

This is a pipe dream but let's say that if there are TWO Crash games in development with one being a kart racing spinoff, I'd nominate Sumo Digital to be the developer of said Crash kart racer.

From what I heard, Sumo's track record is great and that their Sega All Star Racing games are pretty damn good.

At the end of the day, something is going on with the IP. Yoshida can play like he doesn't know why Shawn was wearing it, but Sony isn't dumb. This is an event they created for fans and the first person that walks on stage is the president of SCEA wearing a Crash shirt. You don't do something like that if you haven't put the pieces in motion for something big to happen.

Why wear that shirt if you are not going to mention it? The show in general was a big let down.

So I'm completely out of the loop here, not really gone through the thread but they did the same with vib ribbon didnt they? Someone wore a shirt or they mentioned it nonchalantly during a conference and then later on threw it up on psn. Who's to say they don't do that with the crash games?

Total agreement. It's something to look forward to.

Sumo is very high pedigree on kart racers, yes.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement that the shirt means something. I hope to high heaven it's not just the PS Classics for the 3rd time. That's a heartbreaker.

One thing I'm hopeful for is that they recruit Charles Zembillas and Joe Pearson to become the art directors of the game. Going full-classic will likely cater to the old-school fans.

Seriously, those two were responsible for EVERYTHING we love about the franchise. It'll be a missed opportunity if they weren't brought back.

It would be a crime if the whole creative gang wasn't at least tapped for consulting. That would be what would ensure the best crowd response -- it needs to look, sound, and feel like the Crash people remember, at the very least on the surface.

Has anyone ever played the first three Crash games or CTR on a HDTV via a PSP Go? I'm considering getting one of those PSP Go TV docks to hook up to my TV and play with the DS3. Want to know if it'll look terrible. This would be for a small, 23" LCD TV.

In my experience the Crash games scale up very well, especially 2 and 3.

Exactly, they'd likely go full-classic on it if they're feeding on nostalgia. They don't want to hear millions of people bitching over the slightest bit of change art-wise (it'll be COTT all over again).

But man I hope they bring back the voice actors instead of replacing them. Lex Lang is literally the best thing to happen to Cortex and Nolan North (yes, that Nolan) kicked so much ass when doing N.Gin.

How could I forget Maurice LaMarche as N.Brio? He kicked ass too.

They'll go with the old art style, for sure. Just modernized and HD. Honestly that's how it should be at this point.

Lex Lang or Clancy Brown. I don't see the need to waste resources searching for new actors if the budget can handle the ones they were already using.

This one probably depends on how they characterize Brio. LaMarche could handle both styles though, easily.

Imagine how amazing graphically a game could be when confined to closed corridors today... Every ounce of the PS4's power dedicated to characters and set pieces.

Please. I'll preorder.

Crash 1 is the best example of how this can be done naturally, too -- where the 'confined corridors' came from either being in the middle of the jungle, or being indoors. This kind of game could look graphically mindblowing, especially if stylized like Crash 1 was. The parts where you would get up high, out of the jungle, and look out over the ocean to other islands and stuff like that, would look wonderful today as well.

I would like welcome everything from Crash, as long as it's from SCE WWS.

When I met Shawn in PSX, he pointed at my 30th Anniversary NDI tee said its a good one. Then I reply that the crash one is the best. He said , yes it's a classic.

Anyway, I'll lay myself down and wait for it.

Just a curiosity but was Shawn involved at all with Crash while it was a Sony exclusive? Like PR or something like that?

After starting the show with the Uncharted 4 presentation, seeing Shawn wearing a Crash shirt had me very convinced something Crash would be announced. Hopefully Sony can figure something out, because I think now is a great time to bring Crash back and help balance Sony's library.

HD collection.

Take that to the bank

I would be completely okay with that.

But I feel like a new game is coming.

I mean, guys... we live in a world of Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3, Nier 2 and Ni no Kuni II... I am a believer.
