Shawn Layden (President SCEA) wearing Crash Bandicoot t-shirt at PSX...

Constant referencing of a game that your fanbase want so badly is like playing with fire if they're not actually making it.

Sooo....

- Shawn Layden wears a Crash t-shirt
- Naughty Dog changes it's profile pic to Crash
- Devs were not allowed to include Crash into that awful Tony Hawk game
- Insiders are teasing a E3 reveal since quite some time

Yep, it's happening.

If Sony get the Crash IP how about we just skip over a Crash Bandicoot game and go straight to the one everyone wants; a Crash Team Racing remake?!

Thats not good, we need a reboot for crash adventure first and then a new CTR using those new character designs. For a $60 game, i think Crash need multiplayer mode so CTR as multiplayer is a great option.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but these are some good signs. Crash Bandicoot 4 please, with 1-3 HD remake.

God, could you imagine if a team at Naughty Dog was beavering away on a Crash Bandicoot game right now. That's fan-fiction right there. It'd be 1996 all over again.

My dream:
Cerny + SCE Japan + ND + key members from the original trilogy working on a game for the 20th anniversary. The game is an updated version of the best levels of the first 3 games with modern graphics. Or just a remake of the first one with improved level design.

It would be the best way to re-introduce the saga and could be done in time for the anniversary.

Agree 100%. They probably won't get any serious backlash or boycotts, but it'll start to get grating...

Hahaha. Well, we can hope, but I don't know if I would really think Naughty Dog is making it, or that PlayStation bought the property. I do think a game is being made though.

I agree -- I would not complain at all if that were the multiplayer, but it's essentially asking for two games under one budget..

Not in this case. The Crash avatar is available by default for every PS4 owner.

I think it's meaningless personally, but it's still interesting that it's not Drake considering that's the game they're working on.

I'm not so fond of the remaster idea. Remake from the ground up with familiar locations and characters, is the best way to restart the series, I think.

If there is a partnership with Sony and Activision it would make sense for Sony to make the singplayer Crash, Activision to handle a follow up, like Crash Team Racing remake or sequel. They could implement a Crash Team Racing game into Skylanders with toy karts and stuff. Plus the new game for Sony will generate hype and demmand for it.

That would probably be pretty cool thinking about it. We hardcore fans get what we want, and it would be a good way for Activision to get some use out of their IP.

The evidence just keeps mounting up. Sony isn't even being coy about it anymore.

Now we've got to wait half a bloody year until we get to see the game and find out who's developing it/who owns the IP rights. Well, in all likelihood anyway. There's always the chance it'll be revealed before or after E3 I suppose.

If they released a Crash game next year that is BOTH a Crash Platformer AND CTR-2, I would probably LITERALLY cry tears of joy.

Me too, i'm really dying for a new CTR because this was the game i've played most in my life like around 1000+ hours with my friends in multiplayer battle mode (At least i hope for PS1 CTR in PS4 with 4 player shareplay). I wish for a new Crash bash too which was the next most played game on which i've put 500+ hours with friends by unlocking everything (I think my save file was around 159% and i still have that memory card, so i have to find an adapter for PC to check).

They better be ready with some gameplay instead of showing us cinematic trailer or teaser for next E3. We can expect game launching early 2017 mostly.

And miss the 20th anniversary of Crash by 4 months? No way. Fall 2016. Fallout 4 style reveal to release schedule.

i'd be fully content if it was just a remake of teh original trilogy + ctr
I'd love an updated ctr with online play

This was my hope with the emulation, was that PS1 was included and CTR would be given share play multiplayer, but that was a pipe dream, I guess.

Yes, I meant more a remake than a remaster. But with a lot of the level design lifted from the original games.

HYPEEEEE!

I hope it really is a linear Crash 2 like game with tons of levels, super hard challenge levels, secrets and maybe just maybe multiplayer CTR. What?! YES!

EDIT: Forget about the CTR in this one. Once this is a hit and sony realises that Crash really is back, then it's time to make a proper cart game and our mascot is king again!

There's a few hints that suggest that a Crash Bandicoot title is coming to PS4, with a possible mutual developement deal between Sony-ActivisionBlizzard. Mind you, this is all speculation:

  1. Charles Zembillas (Original character designer behind Crash Bandicoot) has been actively drawing alot of Crash related material as of recent years on his blog. That's interesting.
  2. Bruce Straley from Naughty Dog teased they "wanted to input a Crash Bandicoot game into Uncharted 4" (paraphrasing), he followed it up by sayng "they couldn't". This is interesting, because it would act as a tease/easteregg, similiar to how ND teased TLOU in Uncharted 3 (newspaper headline about cordyceps in the beginning of UC3). (source: http://www.avclub.com/article/uncharted-dev-talks-grain-sack-tech-and-glories-ol-220969)
  3. ActivisionBlizzard hasn't released a Crash Bandicoot game since 2010 (? - correct me if I'm wrong). That's slightly odd.
  4. Gio Corsi (in charge of 3rd party relations) making "the list". I doubt he's unaware that Crash is one of the more wanted franchises by playstation gamers.
  5. Verendus (insider with a solid trackrecord) while remaining coy, by hinting at a franchise "coming home" - possibly alluding to Crash Bandicoot.
  6. Shawn Layden's t-shirt at PSX 2015.
  7. Most recently, Bruceleeroy (insider with a solid trackrecord) teasing an upcoming reveal.

Does any of this mean anything? I have no idea.

Then yes, we're on the same page. Thematically, the design can be repurposed. I want a Ratchet PS4 style "Reimagining."

Make changes to modernize the gameplay where you can without changing the genre or making the platforming "second place" to something else.

This is spiraling out of control haha

Charles also claims he heard buzzing of a Crash movie project inside Sony.

Anyone got a link to this so I can re-read it?

2008 on consoles, 2010 on iOS.

    Definitely not unaware.

    Interesting...
  6. Shawn Layden's t-shirt at PSX 2015.

This is the biggest tease, so far, to me.
  7. Most recently, Bruceleeroy (insider with a solid trackrecord) teasing an upcoming reveal.

And this is what makes me confident.

My replies in bold.

emulation would just be a system wide thing and not really specific to crash

i think they would do something more special for crash, or at least I'd hope so

To kind of add to that: Shawn wore a God of War tee at PS Ex 2014. It's all but officially confirmed GoW is being worked on.

I won't give my opinion on Crash "coming home" in this thread. :p

[*] ActivisionBlizzard hasn't released a Crash Bandicoot game since 2010 (? - correct me if I'm wrong). That's slightly odd.

The last console game to come out was Mind Over Mutant back in 2008. The last official game, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2 (for iOS) was released in 2010.

God of War 4 and the new Crash should be at E3 next year. Everything is pointing to it.

I agree. One more big thing to round out the rule of threes. What is it?

They will/would. I was just hoping it would be part of the package.

I think we can count Barlog's little comment, really :V

I will literally cry tears of joy in any case (Crash, CTR, both in one game) XD

If it's made by activision i will cry tears of desperation

dear wrestleman i know this is getting ridiculous haha! nothing is even sure lol
only now i can feel what it was like for some to hear about FF7 and the likes.

we should keep this thread up here as long as it takes sony to announce it :D
eventually they have to!

Sony has been in bed with Activision for Destiny and now CoD. I think it's safe to say he wouldn't just wear that shirt to troll us so there's probably a big announcement coming our way, probably at E3.

I have no doubts anymore. Crash Bandicoot will be announced at one of next year's conferences, that's for sure. And I can't wait! To me, this would be bigger than The Last Guardian, Shenmue III and Final Fantasy VII: Remake.

Regarding the "Crash Bandicoot game inside TLOU" claim. I took the initiative and traced the article, it was false. That was misinformation from my side. However, it wasn't TLOU, but instead they 'considered' it for Uncharted 4.

Still, it doesn't change the original implication.

Bruce Straley said:
Yeah. It’s not our title. Sony doesn’t own it, so we don’t have control.

This being as recent as it is kind of makes me think they probably have not bought it.

@wrestleman- I even forgot that Charles mention those Crash movie rumors. I think even Joe Pearson mentioned them on FaceBook.

If anything, it better be like the Ratchet film or that upcoming Angry Birds film.

I think the crucial thing about the Tony Hawk comments was them saying it was partly due to timing.

That can only be one thing, either timing as in they have no time to do it, or something is planned but they want to control when that begins, and Tony Hawk was too early.

Else, how is timing an issue?

This being as recent as it is kind of makes me think they probably have not bought it.

That doesn't prevent Sony/ND from potentially handling some kind of creative supervision and control, while ActivisionBlizzard holds the IP and publishing right. Of course, its probably not cheap and could be a potential legal nightmare. However, it could be a possible partnership.

"And rights" is the part people are caught on.

Sony wont make another Crash themselves without owning the IP and even won't agree to co-develop. Crash should return to Sony as their Mascot (so they can use him to advertise) in order to create a big impact and not just a game being co-devloped, because if the sales are successful then Activision might try to screw up again in future.

So if Crash is back to PS in next year E3 can the Bandicoot alone overcome the greatness of this year E3 holy trinity, Crash > TLG + FF7R + Shenmue 3?

Harmen

Ok, I can believe we will see Crash somewhere next year (e3 probably).

Psychonauts 2, Ni No Kuni 2, South Park CBH, Shenmue 3, FFVIIR, TLG, Yakuza 0 localisation (physical). With these subtle hints it really doesn't seem all that unlikely anymore actually.

I do wonder how a modern Crash would be and which dev could be the best fit. I doubt it would be the same premise as the ps1 series.

Essentially, it all comes down to the terms. ActivisionBlizzard "screwing up" is a wild assumption.

All of this is just from a imagined scenario. Let's say Sony resumes creative control and Activision handles publishng rights on the platform.

Its a crying shame as it stands, the split between Activision holding onto the IP, while Sony holds the original studio. Its almost like two, split, crucial, pieces of the same whole, torn apart from one another. Each is dysfunctional on its own.

Keep in mind Sony likes to support kart racers and platformers.

Even though sly didn't set the charts in fire they still went to knack. Mod nation racers and lbp kart games.

If hope they are open to a platformer and kart games.

If they are making them I could see nd doing a kart game. They seemed to enjoy pimping out the driving in uc4.
