So I'm at the doctor's office with my wife for her first ultrasound on baby no. 2 (congratsonthesex.jpg) when I noticed this magazine on the table:

Cavallari, a known anti-vaxxer loon, is featured inside with a full interview that mentions nothing about her stance on the subject.

It's a total fluff piece that ends with this line from Cavallari:

LISTEN TO YOUR GUT

“You should accept advice. It’s helpful to listen to other moms’ experiences just for peace of mind. But ultimately no one knows what your baby needs better than you.”

I'm so aggravated. Your doctor knows what your baby needs better than you. Scientists know better.

As an offshoot of Parents.com, I find it completely baffling that American Baby would give her this kind of platform.

ARGRGRGRGRGRGRGGGG!!!!!

My baby needs me to down this six-pack right now.

She's right, I know what's best for my baby. No need for this American Baby magazine then, I've already got all the advice I need right here in my gut.

Didn't you notice this garbage with baby number 1?

Kinda crazy how antivaxxers have become so influential in maternity publications and such.

What's even crazier is that anti-vaxxers hit a strange intersection of folks from fundamentalist Christians to Crunchy Granola Whole Food shoppers.

No.

No, that's not always true.

I definitely know what best for my baby.

Fuck you doctors!

as a hospital worker who sees a lot of shit, i agree. doctors mostly just bounce around looking busy and important, but really have no clue what they're doing. hell, most of them are high on opiates and ketamine through most of their work day, they're just completely out of it. i constantly have to guide them back to the ER because they've lost their bearings, doing god knows what.

definitely rather trust your gut than some "doctor" drone.

Uh, what? What hospital do you work at?

Not a real one I'd bet because it is usually up to the nurses to educate patients on vaccines.

I think all sincerely held beliefs need to be respected. Anti anti vaxers are just so rude and just as bad as the anti vaxers they make fun of.

Also the idea that you know your child better than a doctor isn't that absurd. People bring it up in spanking threads all the time. Maybe my child reacts well to spanking and poorly to vaccines.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

That cover is hilarious. It'll be one of the things they look back on at how stupid some people were in the year 2015, like we do these old ads.

Yes, sometimes I may be rude to people who purposely misconstrue science they're perfectly capable of understanding.

Yes, sometimes I may be rude to people who helped Polio return after we nearly eradicated it.

The idea that anti vaxers deserve respect is laughable.

I first read anti-waxxer and imagined this very hairy woman. :p

As for anti-vaccination I can understand that some parents may have worries, but I think one shouldn't so easily disregard the benefits of stable, proven vaccinations like that of anthrax, rabies and mumps for example.

One shouldn't pretend to be a pediatrician either.
