About the tweet he's right. I'm not talking about the article (I didn't even read), if he said that would lead to more copies sold, obviously he's crazy.

The whole point of those tweets is to argue he wasn't wrong when he wrote his article.

In any case, this is off topic here and this will be my last tweet on the matter. You've not read his article as you've stated so there's not really a point to further discuss this.

You know guys, if the worst happens and these devs get laid off, you know they'd find another job in next to no time right?

Life isn't doom and gloom. I could put my CV up online and get bombarded with recruiters, many in hours with jobs lined up, for all these guys it'll be the exact same.

Software development lifecycles, look them up.

EDIT: Back to work...

If your CV is up to the standards of your GAF posts i doubt you'd get' bombarded'. Far from it. Brain dead, lacks empathy.

Try that math again. Your calculator is broken.
I can't calculate, can't you put it in plain terms for me.

Something like if every 360 RoTR Tomb Raider played 78 minutes a day for 4 days while being in the pause screen for 10% of the time how many enemies will have been shot in total if you kill 6 enemies every 5 minutes.

has this been proven? i know we are talking 283k or so cod bundles but we don't know the platform split right?

Where was that confirmed?

Er, actually I meant Black Ops 3 pushed PS4 above Xbox One thanks to the marketing deal.

If the BO3 bundle for PS4 did not exist, PS4 would not have sold more than Xbox One in November.

Don't think we know the platform splits just yet.

Yeah, Animal Crossing is a very big name, but looking at City Folk first month and Wii U install base, I suppose Amiibo Festival could not go better.

ps: Could you do a favor of check these numbers again?

NPD Nov 2014
Advanced Warfare - 4.269M
Advanced Warfare bundled copies included - 4.66M

creamsugar said last year that bundle sales was 200k, so maybe he was wrong, I don't know.

I said "as for software."

"As for software" is referring to a comparison I made between the barebones standalone software sales on The NPD Group's data feeds with the combined total of everything including bundles.

Comparing standalone performance with total performance.

I never made any direct statements about any bundle sales.

To be fair, he's not an actual journalist.

All he does is write opinion pieces.

Isn't that one of the biggest problems with the gaming media? Too many opinion writers/bloggers and not enough hard news/long form/investigative reporters that actually use credible sources. It's all about hits on their websites.

We're talking TR right?

6% of 200k = 0.06 * 200k = 12k
0.06% of 200k = 0.0006 * 200k = 120

Attach rate, my friend. Not split.

I can't calculate, can't you put it in plain terms for me.

Something like if every 360 RoTR Tomb Raider played 78 minutes a day for 4 days while being in the pause screen for 10% of the time how many enemies will have been shot in total if you kill 6 enemies every 5 minutes.

ROTTR achieved 100% MAU engagement across all Xbox One and Xbox 360 MAUs that played ROTTR Life to Date.

Wow... gap now 1.1 million in the US, MS's home turf. Up from about 800,000 before entering the holidays. Ouch!

By the end of December 2016, I think the gap could be 2 million between the PS4 and Xbone in the U.S. That would give the PS4 an unassailable advantage when negotiating further AAA third-party partnerships.

I was being sarcastic.

Sorry! Got caught up in the moment! :)

What is it with the hate on the halo franchise...people frame it as against 343i now, but i remember the same stuff when bungie ran the franchise

Yeah, there seems to be many people, who I'm sure also hated on Halo pre-343, that say they hate Halo because 343 ruined it. Because saying they liked it once convinces everyone their opinion is valid.

I think the hate stems from popularity, and the fact that it's the preeminent franchise in Xbox, so receives deferred hate from "that OS company that makes my life hell" trope from the 90s.

The problem is that Microsoft is never really sure if it wants to stick around for next gen.

I wonder what Microsoft will do with Halo. I know I said this last NPD thread but I don't know how they can justify the same level of investment in the franchise if sales have fallen off like they have. The writing is on the wall, Microsoft has to invest more heavily in new IP. More than that, they need some very highly reviewed (90+ MC) hits.

I wonder, what 343 can do to bring fans back into the fold? If not for Halo but for another franchise.

But how many tombs were raided on the 360 as opposed to tombs raided on the Xbox One?

100% of the tombs raided by MAUs on the Xbox One platform played by MAUs on the Xbox One platform that played ROTTR on the Xbox One platform were raided by these aforementioned MAUs. This is unprecedented MAU engagement for this set of MAUs.

Wouldn't six hundredths of a percent of 200,000 be 120 copies? Like, one hundred and twenty copies?!

This math checks out, certainly.

Wow, so in rest of the world its something like:

PS4: 20 million
Xbox One: 3-5 million

Just goes to show how significant a home territory loss for Xbox One is in November. It's an utterly dead console everywhere else except US/UK and it simply cant afford to lose there.

Alright, so 4.269m is for standard and not all SKUs.

Thanks for clarify.

Have you SEEN mainstream media? It doesn't matter the form, it's almost ALWAYS about pageviews, viewers, ratings, advertisers, etc. CNN and Fox News (who I would assume fall into your latter category) sensationalize things to get people into a news-baited feeding frenzy... so you'll watch/surf their content so they can make money... from advertisements.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying even the "professionals" have similar motives. I think AP, Reuters, and possibly BBC News are the closest news (of any sort) that are unbiased and (at least not blatantly) driven by ad-money... So when people aren't paid at all (or are paid terribly) to write about games, I guess I don't get my hopes up that they're going to be doing much more than writing their opinions and about what they're passionate about/against... not too many people are passionate about news/long form/investigative reports on "vidya games"

Something else to take away from this tweet is a response from Pat Guarino. His profile says he used to work at Crystal Dynamics, and, he says there that Nixxes has been doing PC and Sony versions of Tomb Raider games since TR: Legend. (I don't know how to screen cap tweets like that, but, here's the link: https://twitter.com/Patorama/status/675363861495582720 )

Is that something that was already known? Would that mean Nixxes did both the PS3 and PS4 versions of the reboot?

If true, just another reason to believe CD is the one responsible for the decision of this if the studio can't be bothered to work on Sony platforms in-house since 2006.

I think their best bet at this point is to try and cater to nostalgia with a "back to basics" sort of deal. Work with what people love about your franchise and stop trying to take a piece of the CoD pie.

Question. What can MS reasonably do to get Xbox leading again and eventually overpowering PS4?

While Sony GAF is dancing in the streets, the reality is, the XB1 is doing fine. Nearly 1.3 million is not a bad total. Yes, it lost to the PS4, but if you own an XB1, who cares. Microsoft just added over a million users to play games with, and it no longer feels like it is going to slide into WiiU sales territory.

If you like the XB1, it's a great time to be playing games on the console. They had a great year, and a great year coming up, in terms of software line-up. The sales totals are more than enough to keep third parties making games for the console.

For the first year, it was interesting to see sony dominate and really take over the mindshare for this generation. I have no idea why some people get so excited each month to be reminded that Sony won that mindshare. All that matters now is if the the box you play games on is selling well enough to be continued to be supported. How many more or less people are playing on any other platform has no bearing on anything.

Kuchera just tweeted this. Surely this is referencing ROTTR, right? If so, shouldn't he have asked that question before posting his opinion piece?

Love Ben. <3 Do them mental gymnastics. DANCE FOR MY ENTERTAINMENT!

But seriously. The porting a game to multiple platforms is the cheaper part of development. Sure you might save something being on 1 platform but the vast majority of a games dev budget is done on asset generation and just creating the engine in the first place.

Actually I wonder how the business of porting works this gen. Last gen the consoles where fundamentally different and porting to PS3 from 360 could be time and money sink. These days they are basically the same hardware with a few things changed so I dont know how that works. I have noticed there has not been as much outsourcing of port work.

It'll never slide into Wii U territory, but worldwide sales of Xbox One is closer to Wii U than it is to PS4.

When the hell did it ever feel like that?

(I own all three, FWIW)

All that matters now is if the the box you play games on is selling well enough to be continued to be supported. How many more or less people are playing on any other platform has no bearing on anything.

Honestly, regular third-party AAA publishers can't afford to to NOT port to both (absent moneyhats).

Reminds me of Don Mattrick's famous: "First console to reach 10 million wins the generation" statement with a new qualifier:
In the U.S.

I don't think that will work. People seem to be tired of Halo. I think they should rotate 343i off of Halo after Halo 6 and see if they can create something new and exciting.

The more important question on that approach would be, how does 343 make a game that doesn't get immediately panned because it's made by 343? In every Halo thread, I read comments about how bad a developer 343 is.

Look real closely at that. "Fully expect that you'll see another console" but he doesn't qualify as a next gen console. What if the next box is a high performance Xbox One like the potential high performance PS4 that was being talked about? And "I want to keep (Xbox console customers) engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future" does not state specifically that there will be a next generation Xbox. What if instead there is a line of PCs with an Xbox GUI similar to the Steam box but done right?

o

Think you're digging too much, no need for him to qualify it as a next gen console, as that's pretty much a given, seeing how that's precisely the way it's been done for decades. Can't see Microsoft rocking the boat by going the Steam Machine route, when that hasn't been proven to work yet and especially how they tripped up when launching the X1.
