I love how selling almost 1.3mil consoles is considered a "bad month".

My god lmao

In a market they used to dominate clearly, right after the launch of a main game in their biggest IP (by far) and a really high profile 3rd party exclusive, yes, being outsold is a bad result.

I wouldn't quite say that. It's dangerous to say one brand is stronger than the other just because reasons. There are factors tying to products under that brand umbrella that incidentally increase the power of the brand, but the brand itself has no power.

I mean, people used to say this same thing about Nintendo. Then Sega came and wrecked things up in U.S and Europe (and Brazil). Then Sony came and did that globally, and also knocked Sega out of the race in due time. The PlayStation has already proven it's not infallible, even when everything's on a fair playing field, otherwise the XBO would not even be an afterthought in the US and UK at this point of the race. I mean, Sony probably thought the same thing: PlayStation was infallible. That's how the 360 got to eat so much mindshare and marketshare in the West, b/c that thinking made them rest on their laurels. I'd rather Sony not do that again, because we're seeing Microsoft pay the price in thinking that about the Xbox brand in the West.

When you strip away everything aggregated to PlayStation and Xbox, they are worth exactly the same: worthless. These companies have to work to get the sales, and Sony has simply been putting in more work. Twice as much in fact, that's why they're 2:1 (if not 2.5:1 by this point) in sales WW. And it looks like they and their partners will continue doing so, increasing the workload even.

Point being, PlayStation doesn't sell consoles the way it does simply for being PlayStation; they put in the work to justify their existence worthy of those sales.

If they put in the same work PlayStation wins. That is why I said all things being equal.

Sony already put in the work which why there brand is stronger .
The PS brand has been around for 20 years .
Sony base there whole marketing around nostalgia before PS4 came out so brand does mean something to people .
Also having stronger brand means something but you still price your self out a market which is one of things that happen to Sony last gen .

He's saying if all things equal that Playstations will outsell Xbox and he is 100% correct.

PlayStation brand is too strong period.

Before someone says yeah but Nintendo.....that's like comparing apples to oranges.

Nintendo dominated one gen and was basically tied one gen before Sony started in the game.

PlayStation brand has dominated 3 of last 4 gens and was basically tied with Xbox last gen.

The mindset in most gamers is PlayStation.

I'm fortunate and crazy enough to always buy every console but if I could only buy one I would buy a PlayStation every time because I know it will be good.

EDIT: i should clarify it would take a lot of f@@@ing up by Sony to get me to change. Is it possible? Yes.

The PS3 wasn't as bad as others make it out to be. Their strategy was clear and it worked they were looking at a bigger picture.

The Xbox One is doing just fine.

Sure they won't come close to Sony is final sales numbers but they are selling okay if you compare it to last gen.

I really think since Sony has gone to the paid online system MS started many are not going to have both systems like we did last time.

Ah, guess I didn't realize people buy consoles based on aesthetics.

I probably would skip out on the 360, PS3, DS, and PS4 in that case.

The Vita looks good though. That's why it's selling millions. Heck I bought one.

Aesthetics matter more than you think.

Right now it looks like Xbox One will do half the numbers of the Xbox 360. That's not good. If they play it smart from here on out(admitting defeat) the Xbox One could be more profitable though.

I thought they were around the same numbers as the 360?

If MS would drop the paid subscription I would consider buying one for Forza. But they won't so I guess I will just have to see what they come up with next generation.

The biggest problem is (and one the main reasons I think MS is moving to MAU) is that the X360 only started getting decent shipments in its third year so while the XO has outsold it to date (mainly do to skewed launch sales) because the X360 was so constrained its shortly not going to be the case (likely to drop below the X360 in what 6months at a guess?)

Interesting second point as it would massively increase MAU (though I think that tracks non-Gold anyway).

ps3ud0 8)

The Xbox 360 hit 30 Million 3 1/2 years after it launched.

Xbox One has been out for 2 years and should be around half that (15 Million). So yeah, I doubt we'll see the Xbox One at 30 Million in May 2017 (3 1/2 years after launch). But, anything can happen. Not sure how crazy Holiday 2016 will be for sales/deals and we still don't know what may end up being popular new IPs in the future.

Okay... D is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon? W is Yokai? That would fit with what we got. Can't think of anything for US. Stella Glow perhaps? Probably not.

Are Pokemon and Yokai bad? What were we expecting.

Wowww at Mario Tennis. Don't treat your audience like dumb-dumbs.

I mean, Mario Party 10 wasn't good, but it was decent enough for its audience apparently and did over 250k. And likely near 1 million WW. I bet if Mario Tennis was least decent, it would've done over 100k at least.

Same with Animal Crossing.

What is the point of this?

Can you play Halo 5 with EA Access? Witcher? Elder scrolls online?

The PC is the free access point to all the games you listed (minus madden, thats a Console game)
Your Argument has no pillar to stand on because the Login isnt requiered for most of the Console Games, be it Xbox Live or PSN.
After THAT you have different Login's and pockets of game Companies that have their own service.
EA Access is one of them. I dont know how most of the MMO's handle their Business but I'm pretty sure that each has their own service where you have to log in to play the game. But I can be wrong.

Way to miss the point.
Who gives a fuck about EA Access? It's an extra paid service on one platform.
EA tracks every account whether you have EA-A or not across both platforms.

If I have an Xbox or PS4, I sign into one platform with everything available--and sign in is required for EA/Take 2, etc. That login IS required for anything online, whether the publisher has a separate service or not, with said login, I can play everything from D3 to Madden without a single extra step on a low-cost machine for 5 years.

Not rocket science.

Can I get a pc + controller + $60 game + $50 gift card for $299? That is hard to beat, and next year it will be even lower.

Of course not. It's part of the reason I find these arguments silly.
I don't really see why people insist that the growth of PC will come at the expense of consoles. It's when you wish upon a star territory.
Nintendo dominated one gen and was basically tied one gen before Sony started in the game.

PlayStation brand has dominated 3 of last 4 gens and was basically tied with Xbox last gen.

The mindset in most gamers is PlayStation.

Also true, mainly worldwide.

Pokemon is probably okay given that the series hasn't been big in a long while. It's pretty difficult for a kid's holiday game too. Yokai... could've done a lot better. Probably not a disaster, and it can leg out to something decent, but I was originally hoping for >100K. Though maybe the bundle did something? Or did the Yokai number include the bundle?

Bundle:

4 III ~ 251
U Splatoon ~ 140
1 FO4 ~ 158

At least Splatoon and Smash got a nice boost.

Nice job! Halo 5 showing up is a good thing after so much downplaying. PS4 did amazing.

Oh, and it looks like XB1 sold the most Blops 3 copies, more than PS4.
inb4 bundles and digital make PS4 higher

Wii is still alive!

Bundle:

4 III ~ 251
U Splatoon ~ 140
1 FO4 ~ 158

Nice. Looks like the COD bundle did better than expected. If the $299 bundle becomes a thing it will really take off.

The Xbone will be behind the 360's pace soon enough and won't get near 80 million.

So, unless I'm reading these stats wrong (or accidentally forgot to add something in), the Xbox One version of Call of Duty still did the best with PS4 bundles included but by less than 1%.

Edit: wrong.
