man this guy is the new ronda rousey

he came out with most of the big insults before the last fight when everything was in hype mode, if you are only noticing now then you must not have paid much attention to any of the build up, he's been talking shit since day 1, he can back up all of it as of this moment.

Not at all. He's selling the fight. More money for everyone.
He was very respectful post-fight. Whereas Ronda just holds a grudge and kicks you while you are already down.

It's in no way comparable at all.

I have and I agree with the post you quoted. I don´t mind connor´s trash talk but that one in particular was in very poor taste. And to see it being praised on neogaf of all places is just weird.

I agree that it was in poor taste. Conor needs to get beaten up for it, and I'm going to keep buying his fights at $60 a pop to see it happen.

Sometimes he goes too far. That Siver being a Nazi shit on twitter wasn't the best either. But I'd be a hypocrite to laugh at half of it, then blast the guy when he goes too far. He's constantly trying to see how much he can get away with so yeah.

I think he's an interesting personality. Not sure when/if I'll get tired of the antics. But for now its fun I guess.

I wasn't really praising it as much as saying it was in line with what some of the other people considered great trash talkers were saying. Muhammed Ali was calling dudes Uncle Tom's and Mike Tyson wanted to eat his opponent's children. I'm pretty sure these guys are trying to be tasteless.

I think all that is fine too. It's marketing and fighting...this stuff is all inherently tasteless.

Caught this with a couple of friends last night and wow, what an ending. Won my Conor bet and my Rose/Conor parlay, thanks McSuperGreg!

Exactly. This ain't nothing new in the grand scheme of things, maybe for MMA?

Boxing has a looooooong history of shit talkers.

EDIT-

What a fantastic vid, I can see why he's become a superstar so quickly. Charismatic as all hell.

If the Aldo fans or Conor haters want to latch on to anything, it shouldn't be the decisive and quick nature of the KO, but rather that Aldo has been on a pretty steep decline almost since he joined the UFC. It seems that a large part of it was probably injuries because he used to be a fantastic striker. But look at all the mediocre decisions he racked up since joining the UFC. Even the KO of Zombie was an absolutely nothing fight until Zombie dislocated his shoulder. Been watching Aldo since the early WEC days and he was absolutely a shadow of himself even before last night.

Based on that, I actually think the smart play for Dana would be to give Aldo the rematch, and wouldn't be surprised if it somehow wound up that way. I think it's probably an easy win for McGregor, whereas I give McGregor almost zero chance against a healthy Edgar. I'd be pretty shocked if McGregor-Edgar actually goes off.

"My God... it's full of Starch!"

jajaja lmao

He called it though. I wanted Aldo to win. On paper Aldo has all the tools necessary but McGregor has come through every single time with his predictions.

Basically, I see Conor Mcgregor as the UFC's Floyd Mayweather "Money" Persona. People hate him because of his mad shit talking but he puts in the hard work and determination to stay on top. Unlike Floyd, he has devastating KO power with that left hand though.

That whole "precision beats power and timing beats speed" thing after KOing who many consider the P4P #1 with a fucking perfect counter on the chin within the first seconds of the fight?

Yeah, that was fucking badass.

Dark, dark times for Brazil.

First the Germans.

Then the Irish.

Who's next?

Huh, I feel pretty much the exact opposite of this. I think if WEC Aldo were in there against McGregor he would've got KO'd even faster, although I guess there's a chance that he may have opened with a flying knee and we'd have gotten a double KO. The injuries can't have helped him, but I think the decisions are more due to him becoming more nuanced and conservative, like how mid-late career GSP could probably UD the GSP that finished Hughes in his sleep. If anything, Aldo rushing in, pushing the action and overextending himself seems much more like something he'd have done in his earlier career.

I wouldn't say he's as talented as Floyd or at least not yet. He still has a ton of holes in his game that he's going to need to work on. I'm absolutely ecstatic he won and in the fashion he did it but his road is going to get that much tougher. Styles make fights and imo it plays a much bigger role in MMA than it does in boxing. He's got an extremely rough road ahead with guys like Edgar and Anjos who are stylistic nightmares for him. He definitely has the mental edge and fight IQ on most his opponents which I thought were pivotal during Mayweather and Anderson Silva's respective reigns. I'm hoping he can fill those gaps in his game and stay afloat as a megastar for as long as possible. While he does carry the "Money" persona, he's always going to be held back by that UFC corporate banner. Hopefully he's the one to finally break the glass ceiling and ascend beyond those three letters giving the power back to the fighters (only the ones who deserve it).

To be fair, WEC Aldo was probably on some next-level brazilian acai juice. Dude was ferocious as fuck.

UFC Aldo is still a dangerous beast, but he tends to blow his load after the first two rounds. I can't imagine the USADA testing and IV-bans doing him any favors.

Everybody is/was on something. Some get caught, some don't.

"Everybody"? I doubt that. Even if that's true, once you get caught, you remove all doubt.

wut.

chris was putting a beating on luke in the 3rd prior to the spinning shit fail. if i was watching live id be certain luke was done.

I rewatched it and Weidman took the first round. He lost the second. In the third round, he was effective with body kicks but then it all fell apart.

Mayweather had knockout power before he broke his hands. He was originally considered a power puncher. Boxing has much heavier gloves though so it became harder for him to do it.

Even if Connor breaks his hands, he's still fighting with 4oz gloves and can do more with his hands than just punch.

I also think Edgar's fight with Aldo was extremely close. It was also his first fight at 145 and I think Edgar would be favored in a rematch.

I 100% agree with your Edgar - McGregor analysis. Edgar's wrestling > Mendes' and Edgar is not gonna get tired in the second round. He is a bad match up for McGregor and DW knows it. I would be interested in seeing the fight, especially if the odds are ridiculous like Holm - Rousey.

I'd pick McGregor against Frankie, but I do agree that's probably the toughest opponent at 145 for McGregor. That being said, I think Frankie will have a tougher time than Mendes getting him to the ground. Not as big or as strong or as explosive. The key for Frankie is timing and mixing up the takedowns with strikes. That being said, I don't think he'll take a healthy Conor down as easily as you think.

But man, it hasn't taken long for people to make light of what McGregor has achieved. No-one was saying Aldo was in decline, just that he fought increasingly conservatively, or cruised to decisions if he could.

I think, since he just dismanted the P4P #1 in 13 seconds, it might be time to give McGregor the credit he deserves.
