Sony announces partnership w/ KojiPro, New IP, 1st game "console exclusive to PS4"/PC

So we probably wont see this game till E3 2017 right?

Kojima is now independent, so this marks a mark on our timeline, in all areas. we can drop the console wars

And as stated by Shinobi, he's probably picking up Unreal Engine 4, since its a very competent engine, especially for the games he likes to make

even deeper; this means he can cut his development time into a fraction, and spend time on everything else he is getting funds for (story, art, writing, sound, etc... the engine is good)

edit: so 2018

These job postings are fairly general. I'm not convinced they actually know what they're making yet.

This, basically.

All the job postings are exceptionally vague/general and the positions are hugely comprehensive of key areas required for a AAA game. The only thing I can take away from them is that, more likely than not, only the earliest conceptual ideas are being thrown around and Kojima Productions as a new studio still barely exists. It's very reminiscent of the huge hiring spree CDPR went on right when they announced Cyberpunk; aka the announcement itself is mainly to advertise for staff than a product itself.

Console exclusive means it could come to PC.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Everyone is really better off in not assuming a PC version is guaranteed until it's actually announced (though there is a decent chance it will exist). There will be a lot less disappointment/hate if there is never a PC version.

Well, that was fast. I actually expected Konami to have him sign a non-compete at least for a while.
Considering the wording of that Sony statement, I suppose it will also arrive to PC, whatever it is.

Holy shit is this real life? I keep thinking it's April 1st or something. He even got to keep the Kojima Productions studio name? How is that possible?

I called a Sony partnership way back when, and I am still in disbelief.

To be honest this partnership is too obvious. If they go Microsoft/Nintendo he loses most of the Japanese fan base and world wide fan base. PCs4 is the obvious conclusion.

Yes. It's just here they don't need to also announce a game because Kojima's name will carry it, similar to how Respawn just threw up a job page.

Funny thing is just weeks ago, Adam Kovic of Rooster Teeth's Funhaus and The Know, doubled down on the Kojima to Microsoft rumors. Remember that just prior to E3, The Know claimed that Microsoft had acquired the Silent Hill(s) IP from Konami for billions (only two major outlets reported on The Know's rumor- Shacknews and IGN). Then a few weeks ago, Adam was on Kinda Funny's Gamecast, where he said with near certainty that Kojima was going to Microsoft. When he brought it up, he asked Greg and Tim if they heard about the "big leak" from E3 (does it count as a "big leak" if no one takes it seriously?). He went on to say the E3 "leak" was true, but Konami demanded to own part of Microsoft. He said that Microsoft decided that they'd rather wait for Kojima to leave Konami and make a Silent Hill-esque game. He said Konami was stupid to turn down Microsoft's money. He also claimed the partnership was most likely happening at The Game Awards because Kojima and Keighley are tight.

Uh-huh....

I knew he was wrong already.. poor guy.

Probably sooner, studios that receive technical help from Sony have a pretty good turnaround time, for the most part.

A bit disappointed he didn't call the new company Outer Heaven.

I would be amazed if this makes 2018. There's probably very little work if any that has been done on the game. Preproduction is a bitch.

I guess I am more surprised with how quickly the partnership came about, and the fact that he was able to keep the studio name.

I'm assuming that Kojima couldn't start pre-production while he was under contract with Konami, as they would own the rights to his creations during that time. So I'd imagine they're still very far out from releasing an actual game.

I like the skull in the logo but thats about it. Dont know what the hell is going on or what its supposed to be.

Foxhound logo was way better imo.

Kojima looks boss with the beard/mow

Smart of Sony snatching Kojima up. They've always had strong ties with him so it comes to no big surprise.

I still hate console exclusiveness though, but it doesn't effect me since I own PS4. Still sucks for PC and Xbox players out there though.

Ehh, I wouldn't say so. Building a new IP is a very, very difficult thing to do and being able to focus efforts on a single platform for the technical side of things is a huge help.

Honestly I don't think any other publisher would be willing to give him a decent budget while also giving him creative freedom for a new IP.

This is what I want to know?

How is he able to use the exact same company name. Is the logo copyrighted? Or I suppose they'd want a fresh slate.

I'd assume because it's a proper name, there's little Konami could do to keep it or, realistically, they didn't need to keep it.

As for the logo, it's lifted from Metal Gear Solid, so it's part of that franchise, and I'd say Konami would be less than willing to share.

I love the mission statement on the site, I love that House/Sony publicly gave him respect (and in doing so, shames Konami), I love everything about this. It's so Kojima and such a good outcome for what was a terrible experience for him, and everyone.

One thing for sure, Sony most likely won't fund him to make another proprietary engine. Such a shame, Fox Engine is fantastic. Imagine Sony has KojiPro as a 1st party and create an engine like that for other internal studios to use.

I know everybody has their ideas about what they want to see for the next game but I'm honestly hoping it's something nobody is expecting. Let's see something crazy.

they are looking for weapons/mechanical artist and there is a mention of UE/Unity experience under game designer entry.

To be fair: expecting Unity/UE experience from a game designer is industry standard, as it's basically just a broad way of saying, "Have experience working in an editor and, if possible, with a scripting language."

They still might be planning to use a fully proprietary engine, and simply want a designer who doesn't need to be taught how to build projects in a modern editor.
