Sony announces partnership w/ KojiPro, New IP, 1st game "console exclusive to PS4"/PC

As an Xbox One owner, I'm not happy for this.
No way any multiplatform publisher didn't make any offer, he chose to make games only for a part of the market.

But the fact that he'll keep making games is great, I'll surely check it out and see if he'll make the PS4 worth it for me.

Even if they make a offer it don't mean it's a good one or the best move for him .

Sure. I am just saying it because don't see why anyone would should cheer for (3)-type exclusivity deals. They literally have no benefits for consumers other than serving as ammunition in the great console war.

The games getting fund is good for the consumer .

Wow megaton. Didn't expect an announcement so soon. Didn't expect for kojima to be able to keep the same name as well.

With the timing of the announcement so closely tied to his official leaving date, it can surely only be (2) as the game doesn't exist yet.

A game being produced by him may have had the possibility to become a (3) if other publishers got on board, but with Sony investing from the start that doesn't arise

Or Sony have an IP that they pitched to him and wanted him to be in charge of?

Good. Not too thrilled on the exclusive aspect (doesn't really affect me as I have all 3 consoles) but I'm sure Sony must be fronting some money.
I hope the integration with Sony Pictures works to his favour in terms of getting top quality Hollywood content.

Shame for Xbox owners, but being PC too is good, and at least this way Kojima gets a decent budget.

Really can't wait to see how this all turns out. Very exciting days ahead!

Edit:
Back up a second. Did Kojima... grow the beard?

I gotta say, I haven't been this pumped for the PlayStation brand, and for Japanese games, since the PS2 days. The first part of 2015 was feeling a bit bleak, but since E3 it feels like we've been carpet bombed with a sustained campaign of megatons and positive news.

His company is probably going to be pretty small so it does make some sense to be exclusive at the start.

Or were people who are mad about this also mad that Titanfall was Xbox exclusive?

Cause this is basically the same scenario except for a major third party publisher being on board.

I see what the point was you were trying to make.

I just meant to say the average consumer doesn't really care that much.

seems like his terms of leaving with Konami were pretty good, he gets to talk about what hes doing so soon, take a bunch of staff etc.

If the game is coming to PC, then it's 99% likely that Sony doesn't own the IP & Kojima does, Helldivers is a poor example because it's a small downloadable game. Kojima's game is most likely owned by Kojima with partial funding from Sony in exchange for exclusivity.

That is assuming the game is coming to PC, if Sony owns the IP then I'm 99% sure the game won't be coming to PC.

We'll get a clearer picture in the coming months.

I doubt Sony would label the game console exclusive if it wasn't landing on PC.

It's great that Kojima got back on his feet so fast and is getting back to making games right away, but I gotta be honest, the level of gloating here in the thread is turning a good thing into a petty thing.
Why would the reactions of a few people have such an impact on your own?
Since a vast majority of people here aren't gloating, they're just excited about the possibilities.

I'd really like for Kojima to get his hands on the FOX Engine again. Unless Konami withhold it out of spite they should be able to come to a licensing agreement, perhaps even one where Kojima Productions takes care of engine maintenance and Konami continues to use it for their franchises (PES).

No grief that I know of. I'm simply making an observation.

Yes, fans of Kojima are happy that he will be able to release his new games with, as far as we now, creative freedom and a big budget while being able to release his game on the platform which host the majority of his fanbase and customer base and seemingly releasing it on PC too. There's nothing wrong with that.

With Doritos popes comments from The Game awards that Kojima was supposed to be there but Konami put him in legal jail I wonder if this was intended to be a PSX announcement that also got shafted by Konami.

I'm kind of surprised Kojima didn't sign with Sony Pictures instead :p

PES is quite big in Japan (for a football game), so Konami wouldn't afford to do that i think...

Didn't they just turn the franchise into free to play? It that flops I doubt Konami will see much reason to keep going with it. Would probably save on licensing costs too.

Not too many places where his studio would fit. Nintendo maybe. MS in a different business environment and language barriers can be a problem. EA/Ubi/Acti-bliz all have the same problem. Atlus is too small. Sega is doing their own thing. Namco Bandai maybe. Capcom is supposedly cash poor. That's doesn't leave too many others. Maybe SQEN.

It wouldnt surprise me if Konami made an exclusieve deal with Microsoft just to punish Sony.
They lost it over there man. Nothing would surprise me

is it though?
In my opinion it really isn't that big of an occurence, it's just one game and it's not even fully exclusive. The earliest we'll see something about this game will be in 2017 I guess. But good for Kohima that he's finally free to do whatever he wants, mechgame pls.

no.. there are both versions: full one (the old pes we know) and the new f2p which is just the myclub.

Would Konami retaliate by keeping PES off of the PS4. Mutually assured destruction is guaranteed.

While we look at Konami and think they make the dumbest decisions, they aren't actually dumb. From a business perspective; they're very successful. I doubt they would retaliate at PlayStation over a former employee.

You should care, because (1) or (2) could be the difference between the game X existing at all or not.

Again I'm the average consumer, I wouldn't even know what I'm missing

And it's not like there aren't tons of games to play.

There will always be exclusives to platforms; I'm just saying the average consumer doesn't really know (or likely care) why.

As a enthusiast but not dedicated to one platform I'll be honest I really don't give a shit why

Just read this, was sent a link straight to http://www.kojimaproductions.jp/
Oh nice, wait a minute, the introduction video has PlayStation in it and japanese characters.
It can't be PlayStation exclusive, can it? Yes it can.
My heart dropped, I literally let off a holy shit in the office.
Still can't believe it.
