Thoughts from the stress test;

Played Ryu only for the duration of the test and I'm still not sure what they're trying to do with him. Most of his links have been taken away, he has very limited juggles, I couldn't figure out a use for his st.HP crush counter if there is any. I Guess they want you to choose between cr.HK for the hard knockdown (best change) and st.HK.
You can cancel his st.HP crush counter into V-Trigger > Super. He might be able to do things other than super but I didn't check.

Played a ton of Ryu in the 2nd beta and in the stress test, and I still don't see how bad he is. People are constantly making it sound like he's absolutely unplayable and I just don't get it.

I feel like this whole game have no sense of direction. Constantly removing options making questionable changes. This game if it didn't have the money poured into the tournament scene would not have flourished like it did with sfiv. It would have gone down the same route as sfxtekken or mk games. This game is just not a very good fighting game imo. Super casual super streamlined.

Can we at least wait until the game is actually out to say silly stuff like this?

I suppose it never occurred to you that you not being able to log-in is actually providing them with relevant data, which is kind of entirely the point.

THEY WANT YOU TO GET ERRORS

Good. Then they should communicate that... Using these amazing things called "words" over this technological marvel called "the interwebs"... Maybe you've heard of it...

My beef with Capcom isn't the error, it's the lack of communication.

It's easy to say that, but once again, this is the error of people seeing the inner workings of a game before release. Shifting and changing, balance goes back and forth until release. It happens every time, but SFV is the first to do constant balance changes.

People are also basing Ryu changes on an old build (AFAIK, we aren't getting the FANG one).

Even with all that said, players aren't letting things cook. Not going so far as to call it knee jerk reactions like Sent was, but people really need to give this shit time before calling for buffs. The constant back and forth AFTER the game comes out will hurt it far more in the long run.

That's not to say people shouldn't level concerns at Capcom. Just that people should be realistic that some of this stuff won't stick (like Mika).

But anyway, how does this make the game casual?

Dude, like...it's not even out.
It doesn't need to be out to see its not a very good game. Most characters have one/two options at most. Not many comboing capabilities. I get with the new buff to be able to cancel into vtrigger from almost anything. They really want this game to revolve around that and crush counter. But then people like ryu can't even build v trigger fast enough. He gets crush countered from a bad error like throwing out raw shoryukens. While other characters can throw out stuff and never get crush counter punished for it. Why? Capacom have no idea where they trying to go with this game imo.

Well pack it up I guess.

Yo, with those one or two options, all you gotta do is learn those and you could take EVO. See you at the finals, bro.

Different strokes. Seems to me they have a very specific vision for the game and most of the changes are definitely geared toward that.

Want combos? Keep playing SF4. I think this is the best SF since Alpha 2 from what I've seen and played.

lol @ being mad that you get punished for a bad srk. Are those other examples you're thinking of a 3-4 frame reversal with invincibility?

Dangit man, you can't preorder the game for PC on Amazon. :( Wanted to test how it would run, I'll just take the risk at launch. The only thing I'm worried about is my processor. AMD Athlon II x4 640 (OC @ 3.4ghz).

Edit: Gunslinger seems to be new to games in development. Also a lot of devs use more than customer beta testing to judge if something isn't what they'd like. They do a lot of internal testing too. Testing where they can control the situations to get the results they're looking for.

Balancing a game before it comes out is a bad thing now I guess.

That's not what people are saying at all. Trying to balance something before letting it get actual play time with the consumers is incredibly difficult and leads to some useless buffs/nerfs that don't need to happen.

There is nothing wrong with discussion that stuff or trying to reach Capcom about it. But people need to be realistic and let things cook as well before proclaiming what needs what.

Looks like it is based on the defense force lol. This game has a lot of problems and reading here and looking at impression from top players I can agree with a lot of stuff. I just hope caocom can address lot of these concerns.

How many accidental SRKs you throwing out buddy.

ALL SRK type moves or even upward grabs like Mika and Lara have this property.

No I saying if ryu can take massive crush counter damage from from a raw shoryuken then cammy should get crush countered too from a raw canon spike. Etc.

She does.

Or, at least, she did in the last beta. I haven't played her in this beta, and I don't think you have either.

Boy, your analysis of how awful this game is sure does sound like you've put a lot of thought and playtime into its problems.

Cammy has so much recovery on a blocked canon spike, that Ryu can WALK UP and get a crush counter s.hk.

I talked about this when the first beta was out and people complained about the same thing. Characters don't have enough tools or combos, etc.

Until the game is out, we cannot predict how good/bad each character will be. Ryu might have few tools now, but who knows what will happen once people start learning him. The betas aren't enough for us to have a strong understanding of each character.

Also even if some characters have few tools, it's also much better that way so Capcom can add more attacks/tools later. It would be horrible if characters were with too many tools at release and Capcom would have true hell trying to balance everything or even having to remove a few.

The game focus is on the fundamentals. You will only get a good combo with a good read or with a big mistake from your opponent. Combos aren't about tight execution anymore, but more about knowing how to create an opportunity to use them.

Like it or not, this game WILL have a new balance, a new S tier and a new B tier. Complaining because your favorite seems to have fallen a few spots is shortsighted AT BEST.

Calling the game uninspired and a failure is downright ridicoulous though.

OK that's good. I don't use many characters outside ryu or Charlie so I didn't notice that. But I still don't agree with constant removal of of combo options. And parry needs a lot of work especially the amount of vtrigger it builds. If you are gonna let parry to be cancelled then revert its vtrigger build close to e3 buld.

SFV isn't about combos. It's been clear from day one, and the numerous balance changes, that combos are not the focus of the game, at least not how it was in SF4 as someone already said. It's weird that you call Capcom out on a lack of direction and yet this is unknown to you.

You have no basis for judging how much gauge parry should build. There have been 2 3-day betas, this is nowhere near enough time for you to accurately judge how often a good Ryu player will be able to parry in a real match and therefore how much meter gain is fair. At a high level of play Ryu players will be the only members of the cast with a universal high/low parry that they can bust out at will once their prediction is good enough. That's plenty of reason for Capcom to be cautious, especially vs zoners who will have a rough time vs a V-Trigger Ryu that they fed all their long range pokes/fireballs to.

Everyone should have evil ryu type combos

Only thing that felt like Evil Ryu was Ryu's st.MK lol

My coke dream change would be having overlapping meter like in 3s.

The way it is now, you're not really guaranteed to see a CA per round/match if players want to use their bar for various specials. Why not have two 3 gauge bars so you can use ex meter while having CA in stock?

again just a coke dream

I wish the normals weren't so stubby if they're trying to push a footsie-heavy game. as it is I think the game is going to be more mixup-oriented than people realize.

Yah it's weird, everything feels weird. Can't really see what Capcom is going for when we are only a couple months from release..

Yea this is another thing I didn't really like.

It feels like everyone is Dudley without his st.HP

Game is fun as hell.

For some reason, I got to play for several hours yesterday, even after they tweeted about shutting the servers down.

Even with a characters I have no intention of maining (Vega and Ken), it was really exciting trying to outthink my opponent...rather than fight preplanned setups and OS's.

Toward the end, since most people probably got kicked off, I got rematches against the same couple of players over and over. And, we kept adapting and counter adapting to each other in subsequent matches.

It wasn't about combos, it's was all about movement, spacing, frame advantage, baiting, anti-airing...it was really fun. Stayed up till 6 AM.

Two questions:

If I pre-order on Steam, launch the game and discover it doesn't work with my arcade stick, can I refund it?

If I pre-order on Steam, discover my stick does work, play > 2 hours during a test (before launch), can I refund it?

I wonder if farther normals would be too good in this game. They've sped up character movement but slowed down the total frames of normals. As it is, whiff punishing and punishing in general is way easier than in previous games. Maybe they thought it'd push the gap between players to the point of frustration? I dunno.

It definitely seems deliberate either way.

I like how you can setup a favorite character for online play during training, it's forced me to have a decent ryu because I'm too lazy/scared to go to the menu

I hated the beta at first on steam (mostly because my ps4 stick wasn't working) and played much more than 2 hours, and steam still refunded my purchase. Of course, the next day, I felt terrible about it, and bought it again from gmg.

Ryu didnt seem bad to me but then again i didnt play him at all during the previous betas/stress tests. Good damage, easy combos, good vskill and VTrigger. He can do alot off a st.MP and sweep xx vtrigger is pretty neat especially on counterhit. If you miss a DP in front of Ryu , that shit is gonna hurt lol

I don't think it's an accident that complexity keeps getting removed from the 1 character who's supposed to be explicitly good for beginners.

It also makes counter-picking more tedious, encouraging folks to stick it out with one character.

And, it cuts down the amount of time picking characters and stages before EVERY fight.

It's all around a great system.

This has probably been asked a bunch in this thread, but has Capcom said anything about having Bo3 sets in ranked games? That was probably my favorite part of the Rising Thunder alpha.

Your beef is with your own understanding of the word stress test. It's self-evident. You're the type that sues when you get burned for drinking hot coffee aren't you?

I need more practice with Ken. Ryu, to me, still seems solid despite him losing some combos. Bison seems pretty solid overall. I had a hard time getting into it night but I figured out my groove eventually. Fought some decent players. I fought more Ryu players than anything.

With the way health works in this game, if it were combo heavy then we would have to have a system of 2 out of 3 matches. It would go by so fast

Started out really bad with Ken, got this ryu down to a bit below half health, jump in mk, mk+HK, h shoryu, super, dead. I would be heated :(

Feel free to go forth and procreate with thyself.

I know what a stress test is. My company runs stress tests and beta tests with our customers.

Guess what, we have this thing called a "beta coordinator". This person's job is to communicate with the testers to see what kinds of problems they're having or to also tell them when we know we're having a problem on our end.

But ahaha... What would I know about best practices in customer service and software development? Hahahaha...

That is buillshit. You have no idea how the game will evolve over time or what kind of tech will be found. Just look at Cammy in SSF4 and Elena in USF4 and stop making baseless assumptions.
