Transistor tops 1 million copies sold

Well deserved! I liked Bastion, but I loved Transistor. Supergiant is a great dev.

Fuck yes, one of my favorite games of last year. I loved everything about it and Spotify's year in review even listed the soundtrack as one of my most listed to albums. I bought a copy of Bastion when it came out on PS4, even though I have it on PC, just to throw some extra support their way. I'm excited to see what they have next.

Great game and deserves to sell even more. Fun to play, super interesting world and fantastic soundtrack.

Supergiant Games managed to avoid the sophomore game curse that a lot of indies seem to fall into. I wonder if some of that was due to the fact that they went with something new that encorporated the stronger elements of Bastion (narrative, art design, mustic) rather than a straight up Bastion sequel.

It's worth keeping in mind that Supergiant is a bit different than most indie developers in that a lot of them are AAA development veterans.

Like three of the leads were from EA LA's Command and Conquer team (hence also the strategy game elements throughout Transistor).

Congrats Supergiant Games! I'm looking forward to what you do next!

I really wish Transistor clicked with me, but I just could not get into the game after multiple restarts. I can see the quality of the title and why people really like it though. It just wasn't for me.

It'd be kind of shocking if only 180k people downloaded the game on PS+ even assuming zero regular PS4 sales volume.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.

doesn't really matter for transistor considering it seems over 80% of the sales are on PC
but i would assume that no, it doesn't count ps+

Of course 80% of sales are on PC, when most everyone on PS4 would have gotten it while it was free. There's no way of telling how many copies are actually downloaded on PS4; it could be that the PS4 version has 1 million downloads as well and is actually the strongest platform for the game (or it could also be that only 10 people played it on PS4. There's just no way of telling)

Strongest userbase-wise or profit-wise?

Great stuff. I enjoyed the game at first, then between the plus release and listening to the soundtrack I played it again, got the play and adored every minute. I'd happily pay for a Vita release as well.

Wasn't this game free for PS plus? I guess anyone who gave a shit got it through that method which is why sales weren't higher.

It was free but not from the start. It went on ps+ 8 months after it released. I guess the people who gave a shit had a lot of patience.

I don't remember the game launching as a PS+ free game so it's sales on PSN for its first few months were pretty lackluster to say the least. I wonder how it ranks up in the PSN-only games sale list. Octodad might have outsold it.

Good for them. A shame it seems the reception from some people indicates they wanted something way shallower. I hope they don't dumb down the next game too much.

Well deserved. Wonderful game, from a great studio.

2 of those copies are mine (PS4 + PC)! Can't wait to see what the Supergiant crew does next.

What confuses me is that the game didn't launch on Plus. It launched at full price (which is $20), went on sale a couple times, then it was free on Plus. So were people just not that interested with the PS4 version when it first came out? I wish Sony would release sales numbers.

One of the first times in my almost 30 years of gaming that I directly wrote to the devs to let them know how good their game was. I wanted to personally inform them that they created a masterpiece, the game is that good.

It's one of those games like Valkyria Chronicles where I've been evangelizing the game to anyone who'd listen and buying it for anyone even remotely interested.

For those that didn't like the combat, were you aware that you could completely switch up the gameplay?

I played through the first time as an SRPG, then the second time as an ARPG with maximum difficulty. I found the latter to be more fun.

Couldn't get into it when I played it on PS4 via PS Plus. Its gameplay is not for me, but I did love the art style and the attention to the soundtrack.

This is an end of the year wrapup, not an immediate announcement that Transistor just reached one million, so it'd be mistaken to assume you can figure out anything more than a rough minimum for PS4 sales.

I thought this would have sold a lot more by this point. Fantastic game. Definitely deserves the sales. Looking forward to whatever Supergiant are doing next

Congrats to the team, Transistor knocked my socks off. One of the best materia-like battle systems of all time, every single combo is viable

Do you hate music CecilRousso? Do you hate music?

I don't, but the OST is something I could listen to through Spotify, I didn't have to play the game for that. :)

I think Supergiant Games still have potential to make games I would appreciate (and I know that might sound arrogant), and the reason I want to comment this is that I don't want them to be satisfied with Transistor. They're not too far off making fantastic games, but they have some aspects in their games they ought to think a bit more about.

Doh, you're right, it didn't launch with PS+... I was thinking it did. My bad. That does change my thoughts on the matter then.

Mea culpa

The OST really is fantastic. It's one of my favourite video game ones of all time actually. The game's really fun to play and all so this is good news.

A bit off-topic, but Supergiant filed three new trademarks in 2015, two of them in the last few days. They are "The Rites", "Downriver" and "Pyre".

Game's multiple times better than Bastion. Looking forward to their next project, whatever it is.
