Point & Click Adventure Thread 2017 - Bigger Than Ever Before!

There's a new Simon the Sorcerer coming out? Quite a few PnC franchises getting revived, lately.

Yeah, there was supposed to be a kickstarter over a year ago which never happened, and there's been no news at all for six months. The developer doesn't really engender confidence.

They do apparently have Chris Barrie on board though, which is something

Wow, great thread! So much goodness on the horizon... I just started Cradle, been hearing a lot of great things about it on a bunch of GOTY lists. So far, so good... and man, I am READY to get back on with Kentucky Route Zero, it's been YEARS already, and I haven't heard shit about what's been up with that game.

Yeah, such a cool art style. Here's a recent IGN article. Day one blind buy for me. Supposed to be out on Xbone this month, too. PC soon after.

Thanks for the share, video was creepy at the end -_-

The art style kinda reminds me of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, which is a good thing.

The reason why I'm holding back on my purchase.

I'm about to start on Read Only Memories, a game that has gotten rave reviews around here. My first game for 2016, so it better be a gud one.

Is tormentun actually any good? It looks incredible, but all the reviews on Steam suggest the actual game itself isn't great

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Dropsy is the real deal, finally started playing it and its use of language as iconography reminds me of Papers Please in a way. It's brilliant.

Trying to make a decent go of getting into point-and-click adventures more these days. Fiddled with them off and on since the early 90s, but they never stuck. Starting to get more interested though. Playing through The Book of Unwritten Tales right now, and quite liking it. The story is fun, and the puzzles are pretty straightforward, but I feel like I'm blind for not noticing some of the objects that I need to pick up / examine (ie. the box of Asthmatic Trans Fat Maggots that Wilbur needed for his potion).

Also at varying stages of making my way through The Longest Journey and Deponia. I especially like the former, but both games puzzles feel kinda obtuse so it takes me a while to figure out what the game wants from me sometimes. =S

PC Gamer also has lists of games by genre.

Platformer and puzzle (Obduction and The Witness)
Exploration and survival (Firewatch)
Adventure

I think Gez has everything in the OP, but just throwing these lists in here anyway.
Some that caught my eye:

Crossing Souls looks good, though it's a hybrid of several genres: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNWP0oiOF74

As well as Forest of Sleep, serving up Quentin Blake realness:

And man, Cuphead (though not a PnC game) looks fantastic; I'm a sucker for quirky art styles in games as you can tell:

Some amazing games coming for us fans of the genre. I'm really excited for Simon The Sorcerer; and after Crimes & Punishment, the new SH game!

But really, that list is jam-packed!

Great to see my favorite video game genre will continue to have a strong presence throughout 2016 as well.

This sale is awesome, like everything is on some sort of a sale.

Going to pick up Alpha Polaris and Anna's Quest.

Read Only Memories is not too bad, though it's getting a little tiresome in Chap 3... Too bad they don't make more of this kind of games anymore. Love the art style for one.

I tried ROM a few times but I couldn't get past the first part where you review headphones.

Couldn't as in bug? Or dropped it? It kinda gets a lot better until towards the middle. The writing's better than the average visual novel too, that's good for one.

Maybe it was bugged. I basically did everything it seemed like the game wanted me to do, listen to the music, plug in the headphones, etc. But I just couldn't write the review to advance. I tried two or three times and gave up. Sucks too, bc I was looking forward to playing the game.

Here's one I've been really excited for, even though barely any news has come out about it.

Oh yeah feel in love with this ever since the day I fell upon it on AGS forums. The colors are great and the plot looks intriguing! Certainly on my excited list :)

Not sure if spoiler, but just in case you didn't do this, I'm just gonna leave this here:
You have to use the headphones on objects in your room, e.g., plant, poster, random stuff, before you can write the review.

I wonder if Syberia 3 will be out this year. Normally, i would be really excited for a new Syberia (although i feel the story was told and finished in 2) but the first screenshots didn't do much for me. I assume this game will be full 3D this time (like Dreamfall)? You need a pretty big budget and skilled experienced team to pull that off succesfully. I've always been interested in Sokal's work though so fingers crossed it turns out to be a great game.

I just beat Stasis. What a cool game. If you like PnC adventure games and movies like Event Horizon, I highly recommend this title. I've got Primordia waiting for me next and then Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Kentucky Route Zero is sitting in my library but I think I'm going to wait until that's entirely out.

Any other fairly recent recommendations for me? I'm behind on this genre. I recently bought and played through Murder and Gemini Rue. Murder was a fun little 20 minute experience and Gemini Rue was a bit of a slog through some a lot non-amazing dialogue.

Hardware: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Vita, Wii U.

Loved playing The Last Door S1 through on my iPad and have been holding off until all of Season 2 is released as well. Great atmosphere and music.

But holy shit at all that good stuff coming our way. I'll be playing most of my adventure games on PS4 and iPad, so I won't be able to enjoy a lot of these, but from that list Firewatch, The Witness, Jenny LeClue, DotT, and the rest of the King's Quest eps are things that I'm looking forward to.

So this is gonna phrased weird but
1- If I were to play only 1 L. S. Larry game, what should it be? The 7th game?
2- Say I were interested in playing more games of the series which ones are worth playing through?

Yesterday Origins huh, did not know there was coming an sequel(prequel?).

Really liked the first one. Recommended if you have not played it.
