It is sad that top money makers on PC aren't reinvesting most of that money back into the market.

Asian publishers are going to continue milking their market, Valve/Riot/Wargaming aren't interested in single player games, just free to play online. Riot might release another online game, they are working on one (or more). Activision/2k are probably the only publishers that are going to reinvest a portion of their revenue into new projects.

As much as gaming communities give flak to Ubi/EA/SE, those companies are actually making new IPs and AAA games, something that I enjoy the most.

And people enjoy other things than you.

Also, since when is League of Legends or anything Valve makes not AAA-quality?

Uhh that's digital revenues only. Of course a platform dominated by digital purchases and massively popular free to play games is going to have higher digital profits.

If you add retail sales into this then it's a whole different story. Misleading op is misleading. Come on now ETDP I know you're better than that clickbait shit.

Man Valve just released the Battle Pass, here comes the money.

Fuck, I had no idea LoL was this insanely huge. And there's a shit ton of difference between it and DOTA 2 apparently.

Lol has had the biggest userbase for like 3 years now actually.

That's cool and all, but with rising costs to make an AAA game, the amount of high risk and highly ambitious titles go down. The companies you listed can't even top some of their original games, and they keep making games that sacrifice content for the sake of graphics. If that's what you want, by all means, but there's much more interesting things going on by smaller studios, and no I'm not talking about lolindie game with pixel art.

let's see
- i copied the title directly from the article
- i went out of my way to post a source used inside the article and a screencap of the pc games
- i didn't bring up consoles, but retail console sales are not going to push them above the f2p digital pc revenue
this isn't "clickbait shit", nor is it "misleading". maybe it'd be easier to get a solid number on console physical sales and revenue if they were even published anymore.

This is only taking into account account digital sales... it;s referencing the same data that the thread yesterday was made about.

It's interesting that I haven't even heard of dungeon fighter online, crossfire, lineage or maple story until now. And i exclusively play on PC.

The Ars article pluts total software revenue for consoles at $25.1bn and total software revenue for PC at $32bn. The image OP posted is digital only but the first article accounts for retail+digital.

damn,
$32B - PC
$25.1B - Console
$25B - Mobile

not a huge fan of mixing reporting sources due to differing collection methodologies, but the difference is staggering.

I was just looking at that top ten list and scratching my head with the comparison to console revenue. No one would doubt PC revenue is higher for digital games, I don't think, but as a whole retail sales must be significantly higher.

Edit: well, I'm doubting myself now. Significantly higher might not be accurate, but I would have assumed that console sales including retail would be the biggest section of the market. What do I know, though?

Okay, first thing's first.

Holy shit at GTAV being able to enter the top 10 PC games via revenue. Just insane. Shark cards must be doing reaaaaaally well. Like... Really, really well. Why the hell did Rockstar wait so long to release it on PC?!

Secondly: I'm glad to see MMOs thriving, though I am shocked that Dungeon Fighter Online is going so well. Didn't it only get relaunched last year or the year before that? What a wonderful turnaround for them. And Valve... Holy at DOTA 2 and CS:GO, those are making mad money for them... And I bet you that CS:GO is going to overtake DOTA 2 in revenue for 2016.

Blue screen if old.

Also... World of Warcraft making nearly a billion dollars in a year where they lost half of their subscribers and haven't released any new content is just jaw dropping. The game turns fucking 12 years old this year!

Are those estimated numbers based on playerbase? Dota 2 has way more than that if you include steam market.

Ehh just a bunch of MMOs, RTS and point and click mouse games. Let me know when PC gets some good exclusives. Most of those aren't even really games, they don't have a story or cutscenes or anything.

I didn't/don't enjoy or don't care to even try #'s 1-9. LOL

I've played 6 of them, and the only one I liked was Counter Strike...well, technically....original CS. I've not played CS in like 8 years.

Yet I'm a PC gamer too..lol.

I understand if you don't like some of the genres, but they are games. Grindy sure, but they're all video games.

What?

Crossfire and CSGO are FPS
GTAV is TPS
Maplestory is a 2D action game
World of Tanks is a vehicle combat game

The numbers are a mix of estimates and figures provided by companies, I know Blizzard and Wargaming and listed as clients on the SuperData website.

Many of those top 10 games are really old is it generally harder to win over gamers on PC from the games they are used to play? Or what's the reason some games always stay top 10?

1. Long-term backwards compatibility. A new PC can run pretty much all older games, even if some may take some extra work to get running.

2. Extended developer support. Until pretty recently, it's been a huge pain for devs to put out more than a couple game updates on consoles, but on PC they're free to do whatever they want.

3. More acceptance of subscription and F2P models, which have only recently become a thing on consoles

Ah, I'm still new. Oh well. Can't really tell with just text if I don't know the guy.

Oh man wait till you see people claiming seeing PS exclusive games on PC makes them physically ill and you thinks it's jokes but it's not and they are serious. Welcome and good luck.

Dungeon Fighter is a pretty good game. I'm not sure if Neople still has the stamina bar in tact, but when the game was ran by Nexon out here you could only really play for like 2 hours a day. Which nowadays with work and backlog I can appreciate. I'm glad the game is still going strong. They've added a lot more classes too.
