Serkan Toto Rumor: Bandai Namco making several NX games, including a Smash for launch

If they're gonna go out of their way to get old controllers to work, it'd probably be for the GameCube Adapter since it's the most essential for competitive Smash, especially given Nintendo's strides towards legitimizing Smash 4 in the FGC.

I´ll rather they release a wired Pro Controller. And make USB Gamecube controllers for those that want the option. I also want to use a USB controller for Pokken, if possible. Not the Pad they are releasing, that looks uncomfortable.

Man, a lot of unnecessary pessimism in this thread.

Why wouldn't they add new characters??

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U took roughly ~2 years and 7 months to develop. And that's making the game from scratch, making two versions of the game on systems that are not easy to share code between, put in a shit ton of content including 13 brand new characters and a fuckton of stages, etc.

This game is presumably going to be in development for ~9 months and will almost definitely use Smash Wii U as a base, which saves a BUNCH of time right there. No need to re-do any of the veterans from scratch, no new assets, game engine is already ready to go, etc. 9 months is PLENTY of time to at least add a few characters at the bare minimum, though I expect more than that. And I'd wager they were simultaneously developing this NX version alongside the DLC for the Wii U / 3DS versions so that's even more development time.
Also you should win things by playing.

I think they'll add characters. Nintendo is savvy enough to know characters are integral to the hype cycle and marketing of these games. Prior to SFV, Capcom set a precedent of adding at least a few extra characters with each iteration of the same numbered installment. It worked well for them, and Nintendo will probably follow suit.

Probably won't be many additional characters, but there will probably be more than we expect.

I kind of figured. Wouldn't be surprised if Splatoon and MK8 got ported too. I don't see a complete revision happening for these franchises yet, and if they were on a system that could compete with the other 8th gen consoles and had third-party support they could probably make a ton of cash.

Could even sucker quite a few Wii U players into double dipping if they make some minor additions.

I know downloadable content is fairly recent for Nintendo, but when has this company ever released the same game with all the DLC included?

Porting to a new hardware can be pretty difficult actually, plus testing is a huge part if it. For 9 months dev time I would expect a basic port and system related improvements (play anywhere, online will prob change, that type of stuff)

I like this rumor. Nintendo needs to round up every Japanese developer and get them making games on the NX. They should outsource all of their major franchises to them with Nintendo supervision so these games can only appear on the NX. I want to see FZero, Punchout, Animal Crossing, Earthbound, Metroid, and more. While these franchises are being made, Nintendo needs to go crazy with creating new ideas and franchises. Nintendo's problem has always been not enough software. Who wouldn't want to make a Nintendo game? 2 games per year is just not going to cut it. Nintendo can't do this alone.

I always find it weird that people don't realize how many games Nintendo publishes each year. They are perhaps the most prolific publisher in the industry.

Gah. Xenoblade in 1080p60, Smash with Ice Climbers, Super DUPER mario maker.. Oh yeah, NX is gonna be full of rereleases in it's first year, and that's TOTALLY ok in my book.

Yeah, it's like 20+ games a year across two platforms. Consolidating and merging their R&D and making the consoles more similar in architecture could see an increase because they won't have work in separate dev environments. That and a focus on more of their younger devs has me excited too.

Yep. I could play my favourite Wii U games Smash, Splatoon, Mario Maker, MK8 FOREVER and I won't give them up once NX is out. I'd rather just have them all on the new console, even if that means I'd have to buy them again. They're THAT good.

I hope that they put a real lobby system this time. Its crazy that you cant create rooms with your online friends and then fight with random people.

Well if reports are correct and the handheld is releasing first then it's not 1080p, although it'll still be HD on the smaller screen.

Yeah. They have an enormous production going on in 1st and 2nd party.

I don't think it would hit 60fps, but someone dug around in the game and found some engine settings deactivated. The engine has promise and a port could give the game more effects.

I haven't been following the NX rumor mill too closely. Are we looking at a handheld/console hybrid situation, or...?

Could they already built certain games (or built-in stuff later) to make sure porting to NX will be easier?

Anyone else thinks its good that the talk about NX get started slowly and its mainly positive? I cant wait for Nintendo to share first information, but I guess all we will get once the blow out stuff is the controller, maybe the hardware design and some games...never ever will Nintendo show us the raw notes on power and stuff, did they ever do that? (I guess the did for handheld concerning battery life and stuff, but for a console?)

If NX is a handheld and will be released in Japan this year, the only logical game that needs to be bundled with the system is NX

It's a phenomenon that is waiting to happen.

People didn't buy the Wii U for these games, buy now they'll buy the NX? Probably a handheld that's going to release first, there port makes at least a bit more sense.

I really hope that backwards compatibility pulls through now man.....I don't wanna have to repurchase Smash 4 and the metric ton of DLC I've purchased for the NX -_-. And how will amiibo work? I've literally bought my daughter,
read stealth me,
around $500 worth of amiibo and I'm really hoping they still work for NX. Man I'm really just dying to get some solid news on this hardware too. Shit, shit man. SHIT.......
shit

Amiibo will def still work. They're going to be a major part of Nintendo's business going forward - even the 3DS has been made compatible with them.

If the NX version adds new stuff you'll probably have to get it for SSB anyway. :V

I don't think it's unreasonable to think a smaaalll handful of characters are within plausibility. The Ice Climbers are just begging for it.

Don't worry, Amiibo are here to stay. They are way too profitable right now to be ignored in the production of the NX

Amiibo is 100% guaranteed to work going forward, you can rest easy on that one.

Ports is a completely different beast. The main issue is the Gamepad and that, if its compatible, then they would have to base of the NX on the Wii U to some degree, something I cannot see on the handheld NX. Maybe Wii U backwards compatibility can be a NX Console only feature?

I mean you don't have to play with the gamepad at all to play Smash though, or at least I never do. I get what you're saying, but surely they wouldn't ask us to rebuy the game when we literally just did? I mean surely right? Surely? Anyone? Goddammit I'm gonna have to buy it twice. Shoulda went physical with this one :(

They better come up with some better amiibo. The animal crossing amiibo are plentiful and like 2$ nobody buying those

Yeah even my fucking amiibo crazy little family didn't buy that shit. My daughter wanted them and then I showed her what game they were for....well I'll just say she's smart for a four year old. She's already making executive decisions. She had daddy get her the Yoshi backpack instead. Happy daughter makes happy wife, happy wife makes happy life.

The problem isn't the amiibo, it's the application. Give me a REAL Animal Crossing game to use them with, then we can talk.

(I did buy Mabel for like $4.36 tho)

At that price who could blame you? And yeah that game is..... less than wonderful to put it kindly. I'd love a great Animal Crossing where using certain amiibo maybe unlocked carts you could buy in game to play on your SNES or NES in your house. Now that, my lovelies, is how you do amiibo support in an Animal Crossing. I take check or direct deposit Nintendo, contact me for account info.

Oh man I really hope it's a super duper bunker busting upgraded port from the Wii U version.

3DS levels + New levels and characters would be pretty sweet. Even better if all the levels work on 8-Player Smash without removing the stage hazards.

Guys, there is another possibility. What if it's an HD remake of every Smash a la Mario Allstars? Pick your favorite Smash style, and also online play added.

A complete version of Smash 4 that isn't compromised by the limitations of the 3DS would be fantastic.

While I doubt they would put transformations back, putting the Ice Climbers back in (series vets since Melee) would be a nice addition. They are the only omission that really stands out to me considering the reintroduction of other vets such as Mewtwo, Lucas, and Roy.

That's broken logic there. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. U are vastly improved products over the Wii versions. Potential NX ports would also be supplementary.

Remember the n64 to 3ds ports?

I would love if it were some exclusive Souls content, just for the meltdowns that would ensue. A Smash goty edition would be fantastic, too, to be able to play at launch.
