Is there any chance we get a release date?

No they said they're going to announce the release date at the March event/party.
And indeed that will be the big event to follow for this game.
I don't think this ATR will bring significant news tbh, it's not the first ATR they make, it will be interesting to see the new interface and magic system in action though.

I have an unlimited amount of hype for this game. I realized this when no showing, no matter how small has disappointed me or diminished my hype.

It'll feel both cathartic and wholly underwhelming, simultaneously, I think.

The game itself will be good. I believe that. Or at the very least it'll be decent. But any of us who have been waiting for Noctis for a decade will not know quite how to feel after that final boss, not for a while. For me personally, I think it'll take a couple of years before I will be able to look at FFXV as a video game released in 2016 and not the expression of a core set of ideas established in 2006.

And mind you, I totally subscribe to the analysis that the game we are getting later this year is more of a 2012-13 gig than a 2006 one. We all know, deep down inside, that the old Versus was morphed and development only began a few years ago. But I can't be entirely objective. I was 17 when this character was first shown and I will be 28 when I play his game. I'm gonna need some time to let it all sink in.

It'll certainly feel strange.

Anyway. I agree that this isn't a game that was born in 2006. It's a game inspired by the idea.

I've been saying for a while that I'm expecting a fun jrpg and nothing more. It's been at least 10 years since I've touched a Final Fantasy that I thought was fun(I don't do MMO's). Clearly, XV won't be the return to form for the series that many of us are looking for. Neither will VIIR, no matter how amazing it might be. We'll see what XVI brings.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the clarification.

Anticipation set to nothing.

Pre-ATR hype seldom pays off. I'm going to keep my powder dry for March.
It's just so unnecessary; even if they show off interesting information, many people end up being disappointed. Just because they decided apropos of nothing that everything is supposed to be a huge event.

Ultimately stuff like story information should be left for when people get their hands on the finished game. Showing off their redone gameplay should have been reserved for March. Instead these smaller things get hyped up to unrealistic levels and people come away disappointed for no good reason. SE should have taken a FF7R/KH3 approach from the beginning.

I guess we'll need an FFXV megathread tonight.

New threads for new news. Otherwise stuff just gets lost.

Ha, I'm actually fairly similar, and my interest in the final project has never diminished. But my ability to get genuinely excited about marginal updates has eroded over the last few years.

That's the thing - the ATR over-hype backlash cycle seems to have done as much to hurt perception of the game as anything specific they've actually shown.

If we get some clarity on how attack chain combos work now, I'll be happy. I want to know if we can assign types off attacks to different weapons, like Crush to a greatsword, repeating that same attack as long as you are using it.

Also want to know in what way we will have control over other party members actions. I know a lot of people are/were a little upset that this is not turn/menu based combat but I'm looking forward to this battle system more than I have for any FF in the past.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here who has to try hard to get over World's chibi style. :|

Ultimately I imagine that'll be the big hurdle for it sales-wise in the West. Plenty of people like that sort of thing, granted, but I'm not quite sure how many of them aren't already aboard for the game prior to the marketing phase.

Don't like the chibi, but if we can climb a tree bridge to a floating continent I may overlook that....

They've actually said that the game is kind of aimed at young kids to introduce them to the world of final fantasy (get it?) so the chibi style fits since cute stuff is good for little kids. I would feel kinda awkward playing a game like this on my own... Luckily I have a 3 year old boy which gives me a good excuse to check this out once he gets a little bit older haha.

I just can't abide those dead eyes. v_v; It was the same deal with Theatrhythm.

Well actually, at least unlike Theatrhythm I don't feel like I'm having my soul sucked out by lifeless dolls whenever I look at World's characters. So it's not quite that bad. But it's close.

Already been stated, but yeah remember to temper your expectations for tonight. We won't get any sort of substantial info blowout /new trailer.

Hopefully we at least get....

1. A closer look at the near final combat system, how magic works, different combat modes etc..
2. PS4 console footage, or perhaps a mention on how the graphics/IQ/performance all compare to Duscae.

Confirmation date of the March event and what kind of event it will be would also be nice.

Preach, my son.

A+. Yeah, temper, temper, temper. Just think of it like you're playing FF1 on GBA and you want to cheese one of the optional bosses. What do you do? You Temper.

Well, you also Haste. But don't be so hasty.

...

This is my life now. Terrible Final Fantasy jokes.

I thought you could switch the chibi off or something.

whaaaaat

There's 2 different designs for the main characters. The chibi designs and typical Nomura designs. Not sure if you can switch freely or if they just switch at certain times.

I'm planning on this stuff to be the last stuff I see before the release of the game. As hard as it is to avoid watching amazing trailers, I know everything from March onwards will spoil everything, and I want this to be a fresh experience.

I don't really want to bring this up again, but I'll even be satisfied if the only thing I get from the event is a confirmation that the graphics are still good, or at least at ED level.

To be honest, I'm not too eager to learn more about the villain(s). I don't want to be as spoiled as I was before playing most FF games lately.

The thirst for any information is real.

Same here. Just give me gameplay footage.

I feel like I am the only one who liked those trailers... mainly due to the music but still :lol

The mass disappointment came from people expecting a massive blowout. They skipped E3 and said they would begin marketing the game a Gamescom.

People were expecting a trailer on par with Versus 2011/E3 2013. :(

Yeah I remember all that. I was still in XV threads then but left quickly there after :lol

It has saved some of my sanity.

I'm just excited to see a) gameplay in a new location and b) how magic works, because holy shit I've been waiting on that since E3 2013 goddamn

Yeah, pretty sure you can freely switch between modes, though the chibi stuff is supposed to have in battle benefits like that weird stacking mechanic.

Heh, my 3-year-old daughter was very interested when she saw the screenshot. My 4 and a half year old son thought it looked too little kiddy.

I think he'd be interested in XV (at least he's enjoying fairly epic fantasy novels at bed time), but not sure how gritty it's going to get.

Apparently Tabata has stated it'll feature "very brutal scenes," though I'm expecting a T rating for XV.

Don't worry. He'll be old enough when the game comes out.

I'll certainly screen it first. At the least, he may enjoy touring by chocobo and checking out the wildlife.

Lol.

I actually run around Duscae showing my 4 year old nephew the wildlife.

He really likes the dinosaurs and watching me run from the Behemoth. Of course I don't fight them or anything and just give him a scenic tour of the creatures. (especially the chocobos).

Whenever he comes over he asks me "can we play that dinosaur game" haha.
