Dream of one game localization no one else here would take as their pick

Any of the Date A Live games would be my dream, but if I could just pick one, it'd be the Vita 'Twin' release.
How could I forget this? Yes, a thousand times yes. I was really hoping that Idea Factory would localise the Date a Live Vita game (combined both the PS3 releases together with extra story), but after seeing that every handheld/console VN publisher is only interested in localising otomes that dream was crushed. It makes literally no sense why IF brought Amnesia over here, but not Date a Live.

Just play the fan translation. Works really well. Though of course an official one would be nice.

Takt of Magic, developed by Taito and published by Nintendo. It's a sequel to the DS game LostMagic (which Ubisoft published in the West).

It's apparently fairly playable in Japanese even without knowledge of the language but it would still be nice to know what's going on. It's an RTS-style game in which you control your units with the Wiimote and draw rune symbols to execute magic spells. It even had online mp.

The fact that this was the first mention in this topic saddens me. This game is absolutely great! Really stings that there's probably a fully localised version of the game in Nintendo Europe's vaults somewhere layong around never to see the light of day :(

Well it's both too obvious a pick and there's a very accessible fan translation out there.

This is more suitable to games that really don't have any translation out in the wild whatsoever.

Well there are MANY psp games i would like to be localized, but they are really old, this one is relatively recent so i still have some hope :(

I remember reading, way back in the day, about a Dreamcast game where you played as SEGA. The company. I don't really remember much else but I remember the concept sounding hilarious. I'm not sure it even came out, though I'd be even more surprised if it was localized.

The third entry in the Nintendo Detective Club series, only released via the Satellaview broadcast system for the Super Famicom. In the first two games, the player controlled an unnamed male protagonist, but in this one, you play as Tachibana Ayumi, the heroine of the first two games. Thanks to being a Satellaview game, BS Detective Club had a real-time component was able to feature voice acting.

The first game is a well-loved classic and the second game was in my opinion even better, but you never hear anything about the third. Like most Satellaview games, BS Detective Club is largely ignored by the world.

on the plus side we did actually get a single game from this series localized, it was as fortune street. on the minus side while fortune street had a couple minor improvements (such as the game being able to end by getting the money to go out by passing GO, or each character having a color instead of just 1st player being a certain color ect) it was vastly inferior to the ps2 game in a number of ways.

it for some reason did away with the little gauge on top of the player info boxes that showed you how close people were to being out. which is just odd.
but the big one is the ps2 version of the series has an entire mode that is missing from the wii version called sphere mode (instead you get mii costumes, bleh,)

sphere mode is a mode that completely alters the way the game is played, where players get power ups each time they pay rent that they can slot in a die they roll after they move to randomly choose a power up and can cause drastically different effects as the characters all have different classes and get different types of power ups. I understand that thematically this was clearly final fantasy based off the materia system in ff7, but there isn't a huge reason they couldn't have redone it to be dragon quest based for the mario x dragon quest version that is the wii version. It's just really sad the mode is missing because it's a lot of fun :(

on the plus side there is a very very rough fan translation of the game (very basic stuff translated a lot of stuff isn't) but still final fantasy characters > mario characters :p

Really fell in love with series with Fortune Street. Tried playing the fan translated PSP version (helped with it too) and I see what you mean. Makes the WII version seem really sloppy in comparison. Haven't tried the PS2 version because 1) Don't have an easy convenient way to play Import/Patched PS2 games and 2) There's a guy on the Dragon's Den site working on a more thorough translation and thought I'd wait for that. Trying to play a barely translated version with my family would be awkward and difficult.

Eh, of all the Kiseki games to get a phoned in machine translation this would be my first pick. Gameplay's fun, and story doesn't sound so hot compared to proper Kiseki games, so it's nice to know what's going on roughly and what you're supposed to be doing without consulting a guide (well, needing to for basic progress anyway, being a Kiseki game it's still kind of useful for quests.)

AQ Interactive has a neato title coming out on November 15, a sound novel with Nobuo Uematsu as the music director. Anata Wo Yurusanai puts you in the shoes of a female detective and you hold the PSP vertically to play the game. With the help of the analog nub you can tail a suspect and carefully hide behind walls so you don’t get caught. The analog nub is also used to scan an area to search for clues. The simple operation and comic book style makes Anata Wo Yurusanai a unique addition to the PSP’s library.

Yeah, surprised no one has said that, though I do know these have fan text translations (how I played them many years ago). I wouldn't be able to get into the games these days because the fact that one of the girls you choose in each game is a kid really bugs me, but putting that aside the series is fantastic. I loved 3 in particular (and seeing your post prompted me to listen to the battle theme on youtube again :p)

Not "literally" no one else, but I really am bummed that Slime MoriMori 3 didn't come here.

I imported and played it recently, it's good but not as good as Rocket Slime. It's not as charming and it feels more "bloated," I guess. Like the pirate battles are cool but they don't feel as special as the tank battles because of how common they are.

For me, the Slime games are a series of bloat. :p The first game was "perfect" in that everything focuses on one or two core aspects, whereas the later games had to split it between the tank/ship combat and the adventure mode (as well as other things). I was really disappointed that RS didn't let you upgrade the town either.

If the kid being there bothers you, maybe just don't pick them.

Is what I would say if I didn't inadvertently ended up with Iris when I played the first game. Somehow everything I said to her the entire game got a positive responce (except for a scripted part) so she ended up beating everyone out before I realized it was too late ;_;
 
I just remind myself that there are already way too many good games to play that I can't keep up with and then I'm fine :D

But I could be playing 4 unlocalized Trails games RIGHT NOW
All of the games coming out in the next 2 years combined can't measure up to that

Ni no Kuni for Nintendo DS. They have already done the wizard's companion book for the PS3 release. I already own it on DS, but my days of knowing even basic Japanese are long gone. Would love to be able to play this, if only to see how it differs from the PS3 version.

Funny you should say that because yeah, it dawned on me some days ago that if I had seriously learned Japanese during all the time I passed moaning about absent localizations, I would be fucking fluent, and then some.

But then I visited the Japanese covers thread and had to think for some minutes in order to see the differences between two kanjis on a particular cover ^_^
Kanjis terrifies me.
And that's without talking about the state of the Japanese game industry. With my luck when I will be at a reasonable level the industry will be constituted only of gacha games.

But yeah, with the 'you could already speak Japanese' and Nintendo on a roll cutting through their localizations like mad, I'm really tempted to give it a go. After all, see me as a desperate geek I don't care, I learned English partly with and because of games, and learning Japanese would only be a logical full circle.

DreamMix TV World Fighters

Yes that is Bomberman, Simon Belmont, Twinbee, Optimus Prime, Fang the Wolf, the kid from Beyblade, Master Higgins and Optimus Prime on the cover. The game also has characters like Solid Snake, a moai head from Parodius, and Megatron.

It's a multiplayer platform fighter like Smash Bros and Playstation All-Stars. I have no clue if it is good or not but I'd love to play it.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier Exceed

The first game was a surprise hit, and I was anxiously waiting for the second game to come overseas. I needed more of that battle system in my life.
And more Xiaomu.
But I believe barely anybody bought the first, so I'm not surprised if Bamco or Atlus didn't see any interest in further localization.

I know Project X Zone 1 & 2 are technically continuations of this (I own the first), but strategy games never really clicked with me.

That said, I'll also add in the "infinity collection" port on PSP.

It's a compilation of Remember11, Ever17, Never7, and 12Riven visual novels on the PSP. All of them except 12R are translated (E17 officially), but I'd kill to have this port on Vita via PSN in English. R11 and E17 are two of my favorite VNs.

Me too! Not that version, though; I want the DS version of Itadaki Street because it has characters I'm familiar with plus it's on a handheld. My wife and I often play Boom Street on the Wii so it'd be great to play the same game when travelling together.

I'd settle for a decent fan translation.

The fantranslation is currently on limbo and it's the only "mainline" game with no means of playing it in English. Ideally I'd like for Atlus to localize or even remake "I-II-If..." together, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

As a retro curiosity, I remember seeing footage for an N64 game called Wonder Project J2 on a VHS tape back before the machine launched. It never left Japan but it caught my attention.

I don't know if someone answered that after the two first pages but there is a fan translation on that. It seems to be really good ! And a fan translation of Wonder Project J on SNES before that too.

It's not in limbo, myself and others from here have been testing it. He wants it to be perfect.


Speaking as a massive Lain fan, this is pretty much impossible. The script we received is the best bet. The game is ENTIRELY audio, with no hard coded subtitles.

Those sound like all games i would buy, especially the first that seem to be like my idea of investigative game.
