Commando can't be an answer. When your main villain is a tall guy with a fat gut and spindle arms you don't enter the goat conversation.
I think I actually prefer John Wick to the oldschool action films like Die Hard, T2, and Aliens. The action scenes are just more better realized for me.
That would be Terminator 2.
First post is right on the money, with second post coming in hot.
I'd also put Fury Road up there. Just an incredible film, like a beacon of hope after two decades of fucking Transformers.
& Here is where I branch off. I like John Wick, but I find it vast overrated by a lot of people. It shouldn't be even mentioned with such great movies.

It's probably Die Hard or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Terminator 1 and 2, Aliens, Casino Royale, The Matrix, Fury Road, etc, are all good choices too.
I'll never understand mentions of films like The Raid - the action itself means nothing if you aren't invested in the characters. It's just meaningless choreography.

And done.Aliens.

My philosophy is actually the opposite. Characters in action films don't matter unless they can deliver great action scenes. For me, action films are all about action and pacing.I don't understand why you think action scenes only matter if you like the characters.
