NPD Sales Results for February 2016 [Up1: Fire Emblem]

I don't think SFV failed as miserably as I thought it would. It actually did ok. If the game launched with the upcoming march patch I think today we would be seeing a different NPD list.

It sold better than a lot of people were expecting (below 200k, possibly not even charting) although many of these people (unlike you) won't admit it now :p
But besides that I think it's difficult to tell how much sales would have been different if the game launched with the March patch features or with more single player features.
Are we talking about double the sales for example? Because I think that's really unlikely.
I have the impression that people are understimating how much popularity fighting games have lost. There is a reason why many have gone the f2p route and why there isn 't any word on a next gen Soul Calibur yet :/
Anyway we'll see if the game will have legs in the coming months with the updates planned and possible discounts/deals.
I hope so because the core gameplay is great.

I wanna see the actual SF5 numbers. Damn it, NPD. I want to cackle at all the "WHO NEEDS OFFLINE DOE!?" people.

The 'H' stands for hentai.

It'd need to sell around 2m units in the US for that, which I don't find realistic.

Awakening sold on 3DS, which is no dead I wouldn't expect long term sales to be big either.

Considering this is probably the last Fire Emblem game until Nintendo's next portable console, I could see Fates have a long tail too. They could even pull a (dick) move and have a enhanced port with upgraded graphics and resell it on this new hardware.

I liked the original Naruto anime , the filler was what kept me away just like Bleach.

Well at least you dropped the series before it took a nosedive.

Then you should enjoy it, the fighting system isn't deep or anything but it captures the spirit of the series or at least how the fighting goes.

The filler only got worse as it went on, hell it had over a year of filler after the manga ended.

"The unmatched lineup of games available on Xbox One continues to generate a strong response from gamers as seen through global Xbox Live engagement and exclusive game sales. Compared to February 2015, exclusive Xbox One U.S. game sales drove a 49 percent increase and the total number of hours spent gaming on Xbox One worldwide rose 93 percent. Earlier this week, we launched the Xbox One ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ Bundle to coincide with Ubisoft’s release of ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ and looking ahead to this spring, fans can look forward to the upcoming release of the highly-anticipated ‘Quantum Break,’ launching on both Xbox One and Windows 10 on April 5, as well as the built-for-Windows 10 visual showcase, ‘Forza Motorsport 6: Apex.’ We are truly grateful to our fans for choosing to play the greatest games lineup in Xbox history across Windows 10 devices, and are excited to share more in the coming months on our full lineup of holiday exclusives as well as new innovations, features and experiences coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live.” – Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President, Xbox Marketing, Microsoft

Do you think Persona 5 has a chance at these types of numbers?

Hmm, hard to say without knowing exactly when it's coming out. It's not impossible, but it's quite a niche product, and Sega/Atlus isn't exactly a very strong publisher in terms of retail presence and product pushing ability.

Notes:
- Fire Emblem would rank at #3 if it was combined SKUs, with over triple the debut sales of Awakening, which did 117K at retail. [B

Impressive. It sold even better than I thought from the initial positive reports.

Also didn't realize Naruto games sold so well in the west.

It charted number 7, four spots lower than a game that shipped 351K. Which isn't even half of what SFIV debuted at. It's only 1 SKU but that looks pretty miserable to me.

It's not great, but Capcom's own projections were 20% lower for SFV than what SFIV pulled in the same period before FY2009 ended. I think they probably aren't happy (as I think they'll still miss their FY2015 projection by at least 25%) but also aren't devastated, either. It's not an unrecoverable result or anything like that.

Whelp there seems to be no denying their shift away from dedicated HW anymore. Its even heavily indicated in their NPD PR.

As much as I wish it to be so, it's highly unlikely. It will also depend on how much marketing Atlus/SEGA is willing to put into the game.

Neither company is particularly well known for their in-store presence these days, and Sega really only ever bothers to push Sonic when it does come to that kind of promotion. Persona 5 is a significant release for them, but only on account of how little they put out to begin with.
