The problem is, the longer those substantial updates take, the weaker its retail presence becomes. They've already said they're not bringing another retail package after this one. So this was it. The chance to make the big impression.
False. They said the only disc you need is the disc that comes out on day one. They never ruled out doing compilations.

Right, and they were foolish to think that.

From a cynical point of view, yes it makes sense. But generally, if a company invests the effort into making a full fledged sequel on a next gen console, you would hope the game would do better than just copying and pasting SFxT characters into SF4.

SFV deserves most of the flack, it's not catering to people that love a bunch of content.

However I think it will be supported until it's beyond awesome, and will continually be a game in the spotlight. Life time sales will get to Driveclub levels I think. It's just year one. Capcom will catch up to MKX, not in sales but in content, and should release a free to play version next year once the game is feature rich.

Sony doesn't need to force anything, as Capcom has already outlined a plethora of content that's planned for release in the coming months.

Sony just needs to play its role and market that content effectively towards the casual crowd.

That's the thing. I don't see Sony doing that. I just believe the well is poisoned beyond repair. This will not be a Driveclub situation.

This is more on Capcom now and I do not see Capcom being effective here. Sony will continue to fund the pro tour, but that's not a casual friendly thing.

The best thing that could happen will be a relaunch of this game, honestly. And that's Capcom decision, not Sony's. I'm not seeing Sony playing turnaround and promotion experts here. It was hard enough with their own game.

Now I'm really interested with how Tekken 7 will perform on consoles compared to SFV. I really like SFV but oh man the thought of Tekken surpassing SF in terms of sales like they once did makes me smile.

SFV is underperforming but it's understandable, Ultimate mega ultra super EX SFIV released some months ago and have everything you need in a fighting game: content, stage, characters, almost perfect gameplay etc...

SFV has bad WOM from the start, it doesn't have enough content to hook you in and it's too difficult to get fun online when some people are just killers, I bought the game and all I can do basically was playing online but the servers were broken for days and when I had some fights, I got absolutely destroyed, I don't care much about this licence to continue playing it so I sold it and tell to everyone I know why they shouldn't buy it.

Naruto is more casual friendly and is really fun, it's a gorgeous game too, it deserves its sales.

Right but SF4 had a huge build up to it. You can't recreate that.

Yeah they sure made a pretty game. I'm impressed, seriously.

Someone get Platinum to do the combat, and have CyberConnect make it just look super pretty. I'd buy that game.

If they made the anime using the game's animation and production, I would have been totally fine with that. Especially, given the terrible dips in quality that the show suffered.

I personally don't see anything with SFV that would be deemed as poisoned beyond repair. It's content starved and that will be addressed soon.

Nor do I see Sony letting their partnership with the premiere fighting gaming brand to just rot.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Capcom needed something out by fiscal year. They threw SFV under the bus. I think it'll be ok in the long run once they actually make it more content complete.

Yup.

A pity too, as a few months delay would have made for much more positive buzz, with regards to the launch of SFV.

No features, awful roster choices, ugly new characters. Who can blame them.

nobody gives a fuck about your alpha characters

You could have stopped at no features, the character roster isn't what people are mad about, nor or the new characters.

Better fighting game with more content sold better. Is it really a surprise if you take away the names?

Then why doesn't Blazeblue do that good or persona ultimax do that well?

Well, congratulations. The Content for the first year will probably be all that we see for this fantastic game.

With sf5, the gaming community really did a great job of showing how they would rather complain and enjoy controversy and outrage instead of support for a series they might have enjoyed. Hope it was worth it.

I suspect this won't be the last classic series to be rejected because of faux Internet outrage.

Af least the game is fairly complete and can be enjoyed for years by the community that will support it. Like ST and 3rd strike, this one will have a long life in the fgc.

If anything, Naruto's success would rush a new Power Stone. That would be the Capcom fighter most like it.

SF X TK failed so hard because of multiple reasons, so they shelved other fighting game in development according to one source here. I don't blame people fear for same thing with any future fighting game that are in the work.

Didn't they make it exclusive to mitigate costs/risk? If Sony paid for marketing and development, it was probably a good call by Capcom.

Also, exclusivity isn't the issue with SFV.

Lack of content and subsequent bad word-of-mouth is what's hampering its initial prospects.

That doesnt mean SF5 was a flop...CC2's Naruto games sell extremely well and have the fan support base to keep them going

SFV PS4 > Naruto PS4 because they have 2 SFV SKUs.

This thread looks now innacurate.

It was a bad thread in the first place when the OP put "NUNS4 outsells SF5" rather than saying "SF5 has low sales".

Can a mod close this and have someone make a more accurate thread or at least edit it?

Yeah it will get supported, but they dropped the ball hard with the launch content. Capcom is one of my favorite developers, but sometimes they just make me want to pull my hair out with how they are handling their precious IPs and games. C'mon, they're the kings of the genre. They should be blowing everyone out of the water sales wise.

Congrats to Naruto tho, game looks awesome.

What about Capcom V Naruto

or

Shonen V Capcom.

I'd buy it.

Yes please. How is such a crossover not happened yet?

Should have not been exclusive

Wouldn't have made a difference imo. Game just launched poorly.

A bunch of crybabies who are upset that they can't win online is why there's "bad word of mouth"

I refuse to believe that an arcade ladder is worth $60. It feels like people are just looking for a reason to be mad.

Yeap... I agree about the thread.

Nah, majority of the complaints regarding the launch are valid. Arcade mode isn't the high quality feature of a fighting game but it should definitely be there. Even simple shit like versus CPU. The launch should have had at least the basic modes and features that IV does.

Well, yeah, thread needs a title change at minimum if the information is inaccurate.
