Why nintendo.

#TeamFake.

I just can't process why this would be good. Constantly trying to change a standard that they themselves created.

I do like the idea of the whole face of a controller being a screen, but noface buttons is just wtf levels.

Why would the confidential sticker be on the side and not on the back of the controller where it would have the full model number, Nintendo logo ect. The confidential sticker looks like it's coming off too and made with a label maker.

They want "confidential" visible when the controller is face up. There is probably another sticker on the back.

We've been getting accessories for many games, if you want to go technical, amiibo, the PokeTracker for Pokemon Go, Circle Pad Pro are just one of the many things Nintendo is utilizing to sell their products.

Maybe there's a Nintendo-branded sticker on the devkit proper? Do devkit controllers usually have those stickers?

It seems that the controllers don't have any kind of stickers on them, but I really can't find a good shot of the pre-release devkit controllers.

I did notice that all of the shots that I found of the development kit have a box sticking out of the top of the Wii U. I'm assuming that's for video, right? The leaked pictures don't have that.

At this point in time, Nintendo's weird hardware is not needed. There is an onslaught of VR hardware coming that is both unique and actually practical unlike most Nintendo's innovations. Nintendo usually offers a breath of fresh air with stagnant hardware design but no way this can compete with VR.

I wish Nintendo would just become a software company.

Just remember guys... it's not going to look exactly like this. It hasn't even been publicly revealed yet...

Heres the Wii / WiiU / NDS first public shots and actual launch products:

Theres probably more nintendo examples.

Basically, the NX is gunna look alot slicker come launch day.

Good stuff. The DS was equally as puzzling to me during E3 2004. Which was roughly 6 months before DS was on store shelves.

There has to be button on the backside of that, right?!?

Maybe two sets of two on either side, pressed by the pointer and middle fingers? That thing is so weird!

How many consoles do you think Nintendo released in the last five years? The 3DS had a rough start but is doing fine, and the Wii was obviously and undeniably a success. The Wii U has been their sole misstep, and even that has a great library at least.

They tend to release at least a dozen games per year, though. Those haven't routinely been big successes unlike past gens.

;p

I wasn't really focusing on weight and feel of the product with my previous post, I was referring more to the general design and layout with those examples. And under that context I'm not really expecting anything radically different with the final NX product, especially considering how identical it it is to the published patent as it stands, in regards to the shared fundamental concepts.

I mean, in context that has to be what people mean when they say the design will be updated since the underlying design direction isn't going to do an about-face in eight months.

I don't understand what you are trying to say here.

A second screen to show your hud. Games like rts(starcraft) to controlyour units or wow games does have allot of spells.

That kind of thing would be much better when you can place it on your screen instead of using a 3d stick to navigate to your items.

Second, you can layout your own buttons like physical buttons.

Read this first, befoe judging!:

Specially since it decides to be new instead of using an archaic way of playing games for 20 years.
We haven't even seen it in action.

If Nintendo has a better solution than physical buttons, let them at least show it off.
This is a joke post, right? A touchscreen isn't new, and it's demonstrably worse than buttons. No, no, no.

"This Vita is great, but what I need is more screen and no buttons"

- Someone, according to Nintendo
.

You mean the proof-of-concept stuff that has been shown at CES for a long time but has still failed to gain traction in any consumer devices as of yet?

Just yesterday it was 'advanced haptics' that would revolutionize the NX inputs. Tomorrow it'll be some other obscure patent dug up and filtered through Nintendo dream glasses.

Fact is, none of these technologies will ever hope to achieve the tactility and accuracy of a physical button. I mean, this thing doesn't even have a D-pad. You think soft gel bubbles are a suitable replacement? Seriously? They come with huge drawbacks.

These technologies are fine at trying to emulating the feel of a button... but these are meant for devices you don't expect to have buttons. Not only they're not as accurate as buttons, it's also expensive. But the point is to bring buttons where there shouldn't be buttons for other uses.

But in that controller case ?? It makes no sense. 2 dollars buttons does a shitton better job than this. Putting this in a controller is an expensive way to try to fix something that was never broken and worked better before your attempt at fixing it.

you said, regarding NX, "A bigger flop than the Wii U incoming." You call that speculation? Sounds like a factual statement lol.

Yes, if it has a controller like what we are seeing, then I think it surely will be. Do you really think the Nintendo diehards are going to accept no buttons or a d-pad? How about the Xbox and PS crowd? What does that leave... the phone market?

But of course let us wait and see, as I have said. I am hoping for the best.

It's for video and to make sure that the gamepad stuff like the second screen and touch controls is working properly.

Okay guys, as cool as it is in theory... In order for the buttons to 'rise up' with some kind of fluid that gets injected into predetermined spots, the top layer of the screen needs to be this thin film. You can already tell that this does not give a super smooth surface (look at the bottom part when the screen is 'flat'). It's a cool technology, but none of the 'in-action' footage looks consumer ready. I strongly doubt Nintendo somehow found out how to pull this off (or found a company that did), considering it would be huge in the smartphone/tablet industry if this worked as well as it sounds on paper.

Don't worry guys, that sticker won't be in the consumer edition to bother you.

Really, you have a real device of some sorts in some really big and clear pictures that were not tampered and you pick on a sticker?

You could say it's not Nintendo's, but ignoring the forest because one tree is a little bend is a bit too much.

Yea, I don't remember quotes from a show that was 15 years ago that I didn't watch religiously.

My bad.

My initial anger came from people who are actual dev's just adding to the hysteria, and I guess GAF loves it?

So I guess shame on me for not knowing GAF loves this. Hype threads for E3 are similar but usually we all are having pipe dreams with nothing to go on. So we are all being silly and unrealistic for just the sake of having fun.

I need to just step away from this for a while and NX threads in general until actual real sources, or announcements start hitting.

No worries. I probably could have posted a pic knowing how tense these threads can get.

To me, GI and Sean have given enough independent sources to verify these 2 independent leaks as legit. Robertson's source seems to be running damage control the same way that Nintendo unofficially denied Trev's release schedule leak anonymously. In a way, it sucks that NX had to be revealed this way, but this isn't the full picture, I am sure. There should still be some surprises to come.

But like, both of these would be better on your HD TV without buttons in the way.

I mean the fact the controller has a screen doesn't mean it won't be on your tv. Unifying handheld and console has been talked about for quite some time. What if this is just the mobile portion of the NX? What if docks into a traditional controller like the dreamcast memory card?

It's a good thing people are reporting that this is a controller and not a primary screen, then.
Then why is there primary screen stuff on it in that example 😔

All the sources suggest it's not the portable. And if it's just going like that on the controller, that's a huge waste of processing power. I don't know, that just looks pointless and dumb.

Ready for E3. I still don't understand the point of having a screen real estate underneath m hands, but we'll see how the final looks.

Full picture or not, this is just gamepad 2.0 without buttons. Another expensive gimmick that brings nothing to the table :/
At this point, all I'm hoping is that we'll get buttons. Because at this point, no dpad, no face buttons, no triggers... this thing is dead.

The feel and shape of a button. But not the tactile feedback or accuracy. Because you're still pressing down on fluid-filled rubber domes, which sounds atrocious for gaming.

For the rest of your post, I agree. This is a proposed solution for a problem that never existed.

Does the idea of attachments being released for it, from a company that ALWAYS released attachments sound crazy to you?

Doesn't have face buttons doesn't mean it won't have buttons.

Perhaps they have 2 sensitive triggers round the back like the XONE pro

Going by the OP:

- Only the upper 'nubs' of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom 'sphere'.
- The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don't believe this will be the final design.
- Haptic feedback is feels like Apples 'taptic' engine. Not like regular rumble.
- 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom

Assuming that it's real, it will probably have at least two triggers along with two of the stroller wheel button, and/or for the mouse wheels to be clickable. The final dual analog sticks could also be clickable like the ones on the Wii U. Going by the patents, I would expect the touch screen to have some crazy tech that would make up for physical buttons. Hope Nintendo will discuss this soon so that we can get a better idea on what we can expect.

I'm in love.

I don't care how it compares to "conventional" controllers, I have a PS4 for that. I want crazy, experimental Nintendo goodness into my veins.

Come at me NX.
