Real or fake I still think it's 3D printed.

I distinctly remember seeing a video with Microsoft where they talked about 3D printing controllers to test prototypes. It wouldn't be strange at all for Nintendo to use the same practice and also wouldn't be strange for someone to try it for a fake.

Not just sanded ABS plastic, but sanded ABS plastic that's been spray painted with a primer coat and dull black. Construction of this likely took them a day at most. Not hard to model it either, its geometry is simplistic.

and a thin sheet of glossy clear plastic that has been sanded down and fitted into it is absolutely possible.

Whether the product in the picture is fake or real, we can't discredit the other comments about NX. The lack of buttons is still going to be a concern until at least the official reveal.

If this is real it must be using something like this to help you "feel" the onscreen buttons, maybe combined with an iPhone 6S 3D touch system, super pressure sensitive screen surface allowing you to feel the buttons without automatically pressing them, which I think is a bigger drawback to touch screen buttons than anything else, if you accidentally press a finger against a button in a phone game it will press the button too when you didnt mean to. Combining haptic/electrostatic friction with pressure sensitivity could make touch screen buttons actually useful and not a hindrance.


I still think this shape is bloody awful though. Looks super uncomfortable and actualy gives you a pretty small traditional screen size in the middle. I can't see third parties rushing to accommodate all that weird extra screen real estate, and third party support is Nintendo's main problem.

That's very likely not glass, but clear plastic. It's been laser-cut and had its edges sanded for the rounded off look.

I think it's because the keyboard is Swedish and Ubisoft is notorious for leaks. Maybe a tree was involved, though.

McNamara just said he heard no face buttons on the NX, which would lend credence to this rumor if a patent of a controller featuring no face buttons hadn't been made public a while ago.

All he said was he heard the NX won't have face buttons. We still don't know if the picture is of a real NX prototype. And even if it were fake, it wouldn't be outrageous to imagine the real thing looking fairly similar.
