Quantum Break first Review by Jim Sterling

Because many sites seem to treat embargoes like deadlines. Usually it is a race to get the review up on time to meet the embargo (when it may be better just to wait scribe a better review). Due to the early delivery of review code for this one (weeks ahead of time), and the likelihood that many review already written, many places must be like kids with a cookie hovering over the publish button.
I was actually two hours *late* on the time of the embargo... just a day early.

So no, I literally just had the day wrong.

It looks like the TV stuff didn't add anything to the experience more like actually hurt it. Not really surprised though, they should have stuck with animated CG.

I mean, it's not surprising for Remedy to try at least. They've been heading in the direction of live action since MP2.

I got the exact opposite impression from the text.

So since you yanked it realizing you have got the embargo date wrong, are there still any potential legal repercussions because other people read and reuploaded your review by then?

I mean I'm not sure how embargos work from a legal standpoint, but I'm asking since I just hate the idea of you getting into trouble over human error. Everyone makes mistakes.

He can just say it's a draft that accidentally got published.

However Jim, now that you have an extra day, why not make the review bigger and better so people have something more to come back to! Go in detail how long it took you to finish it, whether there's a replayability value, etc etc. :D

He's gonna get a pat on the hand, a patronizing "Don't do it again" and nothing more.
The review is pretty positive so he won't get shit for an honest mistake.

I suspect the very worst that would happen is the company would blackball you from receiving further review copies of their games. Doubt they would do that over a simple error. Especially if the review is positive ;-)

The ramifications wouldn't be legal, as this was not a signed NDA. Microsoft may choose not to talk to me ever again though. :)

It's not the first time I've flubbed a date - or indeed anybody has. Usually publishers are understanding of an honest mistake. We'll see, at any rate.

I didn't read the whole text (didn't want to be spoiled), just some quote which was posted here in this thread (where the fuck did it go?)

Any positive quotes about TV stuff? Without spoilers preferably.

I mean, i'm sure someone at Remedy or Microsoft will probably be a little frustrated that it went up slightly early. However, it's not like Jim left it up or put it up on purpose. At the same time it's not even a bad score. Neither company strike me as THAT petty.

Reading the full text I can see this game scoring anything from 60-100 on metacritic, settling at around 80+/-

Jim Sterling gets nothing out of his review on pastebin.

People make mistake. There are embargo for everything, multiply that by the number of publications and games, and you'll get the occasional fuck up.

No, I mean it. I honestly thought today was Friday and was confused when I checked my computers calendar. Sometimes a week has been long and you just assume it's Friday but really it's Thursday morning and you've got another day in the week and you just want to cry.

This is the quote that speaks about how the TV parts help the game, outside of the TV parts being enjoyable on their own:

A gratifying side effect of this televisual dabbling is a cast of support characters who are more fleshed out and realized than your typical videogame dialogue spouter. Characters like Charlie Wincott and Fiona Miller have their own unique arcs with the kind of character depth most action games just don’t have time for.

This is a game that makes the effort to set up establishing character moments, scenes of personal lives, and other humanizing elements where most others can’t stagger beyond the “angry white dude avenging a dead family member” premise.

Predicting 79 metascore all told. The single-player Remedy romp isn't going to hit the right strings for everyone and the TV-show part might end up being really divisive.

Good to see Sterling liked it though. A ton of work went into QB.

Nah. If Sunset Overdrive already managed to get a 8.1 overall. Wich is quite a niche game with its humor and meh story. But the gameplay was great.
