this comes out today? Shit, time flies. I still remember making the thread about the countdown to the game's announcement.

Looks like this'll have to wait though - gotta buy BG1:EE first.

You need BG1:EE in order to play Dragonspear.

I'm sure it was mentioned already*, but the enhanced editions got a pretty big patch to prepare for this, which includes some interface enhancements/changes and achievements.
I assume the game will never get the non-English sound files though, which is a shame. I honestly miss the German voices. Does anyone know if the version on GoG has the original non-English sound files?

*It was by Sarek.

If BG can run on phones, I'd love to see it on the Vita. I will have to get this for iPad - looks great. Beamdog have a bright future with Gaider now.

It works, technically, on phones, however all the text simply does not work well with a phone. You can barely tell what the heck is going on sadly =( Works excellent on tablets though!

Shitnshit shit. Can't download it for a few weeks at most.

Nice little tidbit, the character record screen was different and garnered a bunch of negative reactions. One of the beamdog forum members created the current one and Beamdog implimented it in recognizing it as better than the one they made.

Really cool example of these guys working intimately with the community in dying gto see how the game turns out.

There's a few more things, such as visual changes (borders around the characters/loot to make them stand out more) and showing more clearly in the inventory what the effects of an item will be for your character.
But yeah, I really like how close they seem to be to the community.

David Gaider is on the stream now. Pretty cool to hear him talk about BG again.

Edit: And just as I posted that he leaves...

This from the 2.0 Patch Notes made me chuckle:
Disclaimer: As with any major change to a piece of software, the application of the update described here may result in unexpected changes to existing saves, especially on modded copies of the game. As part of the update process, any mods you have applied will be cleared. If you don’t wish to lose your mods, back up your installation before applying this update.
What? Oh, I see. If it’s not filled with a half-dozen zingers and tongue-in-cheek references to Elminster then it’s not worth reading, is it? Well WAKE UP AND SMELL THE TECHNOJARGON, President Fancy-Pants! Not all disclaimers are sunshine and irony! I swear, the next time I see some upstart trying to sell me some trumped up disclaimer about turnip paste and goblin wigs, I’ll make them EAT those wigs, and the horse they rode in on! And that’s a promise! Put THAT in your release notes!

Beamdog isn't very Steam savvy. You want people to buy your $20 DLC, then put the base game on sale for at least 50% off, if not 75% since their extended edition has been available for purchase for a long time. I already own the original BG from GOG, no way will I spend $20 on the base game just to be able to buy and play the DLC.

It will probably be buggy just like all the updates they kept adding in the last few days on BG:EE. They keep pushing 500-700mb patch for that one and each one breaks something new. The multiplayer in BG:EE is completely broken. When you pause/unpause it sometimes doesn't unpause for the other players. In single player some dialog box cannot be closed or when you reload it spawns some dialog from where you reloaded and you cannot close it.

It is a play on both SCL and ToSC, actually.

However, I did not actually know that the devs of Legends were closed down... I feel like a bit of dick.

Super glad this is releasing today, very cool. Plus achievements in the EE of this and Baldur's Gate II is pretty neat, as well!

Regarding BG1 parties:
This takes place between Baldur’s Gate and its sequel. That means at least one companion
—Imoen—is too busy dual-classing into a mage to come along for the journey
. Some companions
(Neera in particular)
aren’t available until midway through the expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear review: A fitting end to a legendary game, 17 years later

So I finished the game roughly 17 years ago. Do I replay BG1 or just start fresh with the exp?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Yeah, this looks really good. This might be the kick in the ass I need to finally give Baldur's Gate a real shot.

The original BG EE is now $5 (75% off) on Steam thru April 4. I plan to get to it after I play PoE, but at that price I'll yoink it now.

Another review

http://venturebeat.com/2016/03/31/baldurs-gate-siege-of-dragonspear-embraces-the-past-and-present/

They gave it an 87/100

Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear fills in some of what happens to the Child of Bhaal between saving Baldur’s Gate and saving your soul from Irenicus, and it’s a hoot to revisit this world, using the old D&D rules from the 1990s.

But Siege of Dragonspear hints at more — a studio that’s done with just enhancing older games and ready to carve out a place among the top storytellers in the RPG sector. Beamdog’s first effort at original storytelling is a good start, and I’m excited to see more in the future, even if it’s in the world of Baldur’s Gate.

Man, so they actually delivered on this? Always impressive when a waaaaay late follow-up to a revered game actually recaptures the magic.

Been playing through the game for my own review the past couple of days and I have been marveling how well things are holding up thus far and I am not all that attached to the game series.

Does this and 2.0 break mods?

The initial install will because it's required for the update to overwrite override and dialogue.tlk files that are normally used for modding. Initial reports suggest you can just install the mods back over it though and they work fine. It's probably not a great idea do this if you already have a game in progress though since the order you install mods is super important so if you don't know the exact order you had them installed it might break your save game.

So, uh, did some of the portraits (from the portrait pack) disappear with the patch or am I imagining things? I could have sworn one of the new ones had a gnome mage.

Edit:
Okay, the images from the second portrait pack simply don't appear in the character creation for some reason. They're still there (in the old save games) though. They can still be chosen/changed with EE Keeper.

Picked up the first game (having bought the 2nd during a past sale). Have the original versions on GoG, but wanted the EE versions and on Steam. Will get this expansion when I get around to finishing the base game.

Do you have to do anything special to enable Steam Cloudsaves for this? Didn't notice my game going to the cloud when I exited.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess you have to explicitly enable them.

Edit Part Deux: Seems Difficulty is broken for already started games, trying to fix mine now. Thought that fight with the Gibberlings was insanely easy.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Wow! The 2.0 UI and HUD updates have been incredible so far! Love the new menus, map, and journal changes just poking around! Also, having lifebars is also a much needed adjustment. Games actually feel far more modernized, way moreso than the when the EE releases first released.

Also way behind on playing through Pillars, but this is having me want to go through the entire trilogy(and new expansion) again this year!

Well I guess I can't play as a shaman as character creation is bugged. I can't get past the skills screen as the proficiencies are blacked out and I can't advance.

I didn't have any mods installed, but I'll do a clean reinstall and see what happens.

Yeah I had an already started game, and it put me at easy and I can't change it. Fortunately I wasn't too far in, and I did get an achievement out of it.

Good to hear. I'm in the middle of Trails in the Sky SC right now, so it'll be a while before I jump into BG, but I think I'll give it a shot in the near future.

I'm not sure if anybody can answer this yet, but what's the level range for the campaign? As much as I love BG1, the game kinda suffers from being so low level imo and lacks the cool equipment and spells that can be found in BG2.

I also hope that Beamdog improved on their writing skills. For the most part, I really did not enjoy the new content they added in the EEs.

The XP cap goes up to 500k, which is level 9-12 depending on class.
