Phil Spencer Discusses Microsoft’s Unpopular PC Moves And Xbox One Evolution.

Phil Spencer said:
And then I wanted to show taking the Steam package and wrapped it running as a modern desktop application to show we’re not trying to lock out those apps and games from being able to use Steamworks or to be deployed in other stores, so we wanted to show that directly.

I am not exactly sure how I should interpret that, does that mean that we can expect to something like Quantum Break on Steam at some point or was this a mere demonstration of Steamworks based games working on the Windows 10 Store?

So gog is running a deal on BG I&II and Icewind Dale Enchanced Editions with bigger cuts if you owned the originals. BG II enchanced is €2.69 since I own vanilla bg2. Anything to say on that enchanced editions? I knew BG2:EE was buggy but it seems the issues were fixed.
I did try to mod bg2 a bit when I started to play but I gave up with the game after a while. I'm kinda hoping that the new UI will help me be patient with the game, since I know I'm in for a treat if I keep at it.

i play always in human form and barely got invaded once or twice so game's kinda dead on pc for that to matter, unfortunately

one of the invasions was in anor londo tho and earning the bonfire in the solaire room with a pvp fight was pretty epic, specially cos it wasn't a cheater or a cheese or whatever, just a dignified duel

You must have been too good. Once you kill a boss that area cannot be invaded anymore.

When I used to go human for the Gargoyle run it would be raining twinks.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I am not exactly sure how I should interpret that, does that mean that we can expect to something like Quantum Break on Steam at some point or was this a mere demonstration of Steamworks based games working on the Windows 10 Store?

I think they're just trying to warm people up to the idea that "Universal Windows Apps" could be distributed on platforms other than the Windows Store. It doesn't really mean we'll see Quantum Break on Steam any more than it means we'll see the new Mirror's Edge on Steam. They're just trying to break the stigma that their new execution container is exclusive or somehow tied to the Windows Store.

From what I've heard, all the big mods for the originals work now and the EEs have been smoothed out since their rocky releases.

I was highly skeptical when the EE's first released, but now seems like a great time to jump in. Doubly so because they're discontinuing the originals on the 29th. (The originals will still be in your library afterwards.)

dks1 was never too active for me, at least nowhere near like dks2. i remember most of my invades happening in undead burg, anor londo and the dlc areas. well, and forest hunter convenant assholes, that one was like so fucking annoying to go through in human form lol

when they switched to steamworks i did another all human form run to see if i got invaded but no luck, it may be a regions thing

i'm hoping dks3 gives me dks2 like numbers of invasions and summoning and whatnot. i had a lot of fun just helping people clear bosses in both games, helping them cut the tales off dragons and protecting solaire and whatnot

Greatest FM ever.
The best FM was FML. Never forget.

how noticeable of a difference is 1440p vs 1080p?

does 1440p scale up nicely on a 4k display?

i'm torn between a 25 inch $450 CAD 1440p display and a $499 CAD 28 inch 4K display

Why not go bigger with higher res for a mere $49 more?

Seems like a no-brainer, y'know, unless you're worried about your graphics card handling 4k resolution and performing well, I guess?

I am not exactly sure how I should interpret that, does that mean that we can expect to something like Quantum Break on Steam at some point or was this a mere demonstration of Steamworks based games working on the Windows 10 Store?

I'd guess the second one. Or that Steam Games that make use of Steamworks could be put in a UWP wrapper and sold on the W10 store.

This too.

i'm using a 970 so i'd probably end up playing most stuff in 1440p... maybe i should just stick with 1080p until pascal

thanks! but eh, that's weird, either steam is tripping or the grid 2 code seems to be region locked

or is that what you meant with "trust no one" ? :p

It's a key from a humble bundle, didn't know is was region locked.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

That's my take on it as well.

Still debating on if I wanna convert my XB1 into a dev kit.. It was fun making small games back in the day on the 360 and distributing them. But now that I've had a little more experience I might actually take it serious and try making an app instead.

Go for 1440p. The only reason to go 4k is if you've got a beastly SLI rig. A 970 at 4k is probably not even going to manage 30 FPS in a lot of current games.

A 970 on 1440 is actually going to struggle a bit too depending on the game, it's a good Gysnc sweet spot though if you have the option.

Even after Pascal finally hits, a 4k monitor might be a struggle to maintain a good balance of FPS and IQ.

But usually they are.

One Piece has missing multiplayer, the options are broken (graphical options dont change ANYTHING), so we are stuck with the Vita assets...
Toukiden crashes unless you use the Windows 7 compatibility mode, then it doesnt crash that often.
Arslan was okay, but had horrible performance.
The Musou games before were usually using the PS3 assets instead of the PS4 one.
Dead or Alive was missing stages.

Most K-T ports are/were bad.

Those two piss me off the most.

Let's keeping adding to DOA5.

It's missing the soft engine, the DLC doesn't tear. the DLC still costs more than on console, the promised online is only Ranked with no player matches or lobbies, etc.

Yeah I think I will pick up bg2:ee . And that's it for me and rpgs, have a bunch unplayed/unfinished. Already wanna finish shadowrun:dragonfall, dragon age origins, witcher 2,wasteland 2,south park. Oh god that's a lot of playtime. Have to stop playing awesome roguelikes that never end!

May have to jump on the hyperlight bandwagon this weekend, from all the stuff I'm seeing in the OT, the game looks so fun

I'm level 10 in the The Division and it's a slog. I know it gets better end-game, but it just makes me want to play Uncharted or TR2013 instead. Th story missions are like "search these things for this thing" and you know "this thing" won't be there until you reach the end of the area. When 80% of a mission is you religiously trailing Ghostwriter and searching for macguffins (and canned food apparently), that's not... fun.

This could be the least enjoyable loot-based game I've played. (Haven't booted up Destiny)

I wish I had more coins to keep playing the Pachinko costume prize thing.

i wasted so many coins on the one with the cat that hangs on your back, i ended up getting all the outfit pieces in that one and on my last ticket i scored the cat. if you're interested on that piece the trick to getting it is to make the mii hit the first little dot on the left and have the moving bumper be sort of a support to stop your momentum so you can land on it.

I see. That makes sense considering how Microsoft are approaching PC gaming this time around. Thank you for the explanation.

It was just wishful thinking on my part.

I am struggling to read past Spencer's answer to the first question in that interview...

Game Informer said:
Will all first-party Microsoft games release on both Windows and Xbox One moving forward?

Phil Spencer said:
Certain people would love for me to say something as clean as, “all.” Ashes of the Singularity, a game we showed at Showcase for those who were there, a hardcore real-time RTS for PC, is probably not a great controller experience as it requires keyboard and mouse. If I enable keyboard and mouse on a console, which we will do, and then you download that and you’re playing it on a monitor, is that a PC game, or is that a console game? I get out of saying “all” because I think there are games that people want to play on a monitor with a keyboard and mouse and I want to be somebody that builds those games. I also think there will be games where I want to sit 10 feet away from a screen with a controller in my hand with a great sound system and I want to play those console games.

A Stardock Entertainment published game co-developed by Oxide Games and Stardock is the PC-ass PC game he uses to deflect a question. At least with the final GFWL re-launch they had Microsoft Flight Simulator and a shitty f2p Age of Empires to try and bullshit people with, now they don't even have a game of their own to use.

That's how serious their commitment to PC gaming is.
