Nintendo going red - a rebranding in progress?

It looks like Mr. Game & Watch's head. The back of Mario's hat looks like his nose.

Whether that's intention or not, who knows.

There's a picture of Zelda Wii U hidden in the 40th pixel from the left.

It's shaped like game & watch's head facing the right.

Ohhhh, I see it now. Could this be hinting at the NX being the long-coming revival of the Game and Watch brand?

I think grey cases + red would but cool and unique and Nintendo-ey but also potentially mature if they wanted. Gameboy kinda grey.

Not sure why they ever went gray in the first place. I feel like they were going for an Apple approach and it just didn't quite work for them.

Good job Nintendo.

Finally, it's been too long since classic red - the light blue of Wii U vs the dark blue of PS4/Vita was just a mismatch, now they'll stand out.

And Homer Simpson from the side with an oversized nose.

Except My Nintendo has, as far as we know, little to do with Homer Simpson, and plenty to do with clouds.

Specifically the part that says it will be used to "coordinate cloud data".

So Nintendo Network is still a thing? Or its a part of the grand "My Nintendo" scheme?

I'm confused really

Basically Nintendo's going for an over-arching account seperate from their consoles. You sign up for a Nintendo Account (the old NNIDs but not tied to one or two things) and that grants you access to My Nintendo. My Nintendo is basically the new Club Nintendo but instead of physical goods you get digital ones instead; and we're assuming that it's going to be used for cloud saves as well.

Your Nintendo Network ID can link to a My Nintendo account, but I don't think it's required. I think you can have a My Nintento account for Miitomo with only a Twitter linked to it, for example. So in a way, Nintendo Network is kind of a subset of My Nintendo.

Right, it's not totally required, you can even link your Nintendo Account to your NNID whenever you get one for their dedicated systems. Everything will be under one umbrella like how MS and other companies now do things.

My Nintendo is Nintendo's reward program.

Nintendo Account is Nintendo's Account system.

Nintendo Network is the online services for their consoles such as Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo Account can link all of Nintendo's various services togother.

Nice, hopefully they will emphasis Nintendo in the next console name.

And make sure the NX controller buttons (assuming it has them) are red, green, yellow, blue a'la New 3DS/Super Famicom

The gray logo was fine during the Wii which was going more for an apple like approach, but I think red fits their current style much better and moving away from the wii/apple branding would do them some good

Catalix

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
Remember when red was the main branding color for PS3's early years (along with that godawful Spider-Man font)? That shit felt all kinds of wrong, the first of many mistakes for Sony. Thank god they eventually came to their senses and doubled down on blue, no doubt trying to recapture that PS2 magic.

Likewise, Nintendo is making the right move by reclaiming red. It just makes them seem more distinct and confident.

Red just works for Nintendo. I'm excited to see what the NX brings and the direction Nintendo will be going onward after the whole Wii U fiasco.
