So because a woman feels sexy and empowered its sexist cause she takes her clothes off?

What
Of course it's not, I'm talking about scenery. The shift between sexy and sexist is how you show it to the players. If you aim to appeal to young men, well this is how you do it with the Cyberpunk photo.

they're not wrong. i don't expect gaming side to see that though, as is plainly evident by this thread so far.
There are sexist elements in The Witcher 3 because of its setting and such. Just like there are racist elements. Because they are part of that world. There is nothing wrong with that.

I think you need to do a bit of research on what sexism actually is.

Having not played games from either company, what's to gain from The Chinese Company starting drama like this? They don't seem to be trying to make any kind of dialogue, it's literally just shots fired. Comes off as really immature on their part.

I'd think whoever wrote that tweet didn't expect that a random throwaway tweet would lead to a GAF thread.

at least they make good ones

Not to mention it's designed from the perspective of a culture that is not a massive mix of races.

The idea that every game from a foreign studio needs to conform to a specific standard of is terrible imo.

It's strange to see a tweet from the actual studio Twitter handle, I can't imagine all the staff are happy with there representation here.

How big is their studio? If they are a really small studio I can see them having this thought together. If not, seems like an odd thing to do.

I can't believe they actually posted this on their account. I mean, it's cool for them to have this opinion obviously but the fact they're using their company twitter just feels slimy.

Why young men? Can adults of all ages, both male and female not enjoy adult themes?

Complaining that the Witcher is sexist is like complaining Game of Thrones is sexist. They're based on books that try to depict medieval times ffs.
I'm pretty sure The Witcher had collectable Pokémon card trophies for sexual conquests. That wasn't a depiction of a fantasy world's societal views, that was direct enforcement of the developer's. CD Projekt Red has been improving over the years, but stuff like that colours how I see how they treat gender and sexuality.

Why do people feel the need to attack Chinese Rooms games now? Attack and criticise the comment not the commenter, there are lots of people who took something worthwhile from their games too whether you liked them or not, their games have nothing to do with what they said.

It's because they attacked their precious Witcher lol

Yeah, and that's sort of what I don't get about all this. I expect this kind of thing from developers individual personal accounts, not from their official business account. I think that's why it's such a story.

Because it's usually the target goal of video game marketing, that doesn't mean everyone can't like it.

And once again, we can love games filled with sexism, I do love a lot myself but let's not cut a reflexion so easily, there's a lot of levels in sexism representations and it's ok to talk about it, no need to take me for an idiot or someone who doesn't know what is talking about.

To come back to The Witcher : yes the world is sexist and racist and the game sometimes is great at talking about it. Other times not. It's not all black and white, you know.

A little bit of context:

- The image they are refering to is from the making-of article published by Platige Image, production company hired to make the teaser
- It's a shout-out to the original Cyberpunk 2020 imagery

True. It was also almost 9 years ago, probably prototyped 1-2 years before then.

I don't remember that from The Witcher 3. Was that in one of the other two?

I think we should primarily judge a developer for its latest output when it comes to this. There are plenty of developers who had some sexist stuff in older games, but have moved on from that as the industry matured and it became a problem.

adult themes != chick in lingerie

And in the end I think CDPR is able to write good shit, with "adult themes" as you put it but when they never miss an opportunity to show cleavage or female ass or CTRL-C CTRL-V that prostitute NPC all over Novigrad I feel like they have some progress to do on that front.

And I feel like they will improve with Cyberpunk because they improved along the Witcher series.

It was in the first game, you could have sex with different prostitutes and you'd get unique cards with nude pictures of them. Geralt was sleazy as fuck in the first game :lol

They've already come a long way since Witcher 1.

The first Witcher game had those. And there's no denying that was sexist.

They are entitled to have their opinion...come on...

In regards to the Witcher...hmm, well it does build on very masculine orientated genre, that is for sure. But the game itself? I don't think so. Ciri for example is strong empowered character. There are quite numerous examples. And many more examples of over-confident macho meatheads...

It's in the first Witcher game. Definitely tasteless, and I'm glad they've matured past that.

Although i think that claim is rather far fetched it has to be said just about all the main female characters do have a rather, uh, porn like quality to them

Come on guys, it is sexist. It doesn't mean the game will not be good and I love The Witcher 3 but let's face it, there's a lot of male gaze in these games. And I know, we see Geralt naked too but it's not the same, Yen and Triss are well-written but a part of their personality revolve around their sex-appeal. Don't be so defensive about this.

God damn it.

This is The Witcher. With woman that are stronger than men, with naked men, with naked women, with good sex scenes which you don't have to be ashamed of when you play the game and...it's from a book. A book where they talk like shit everywhere like in the game.

Can all this SWJ bullshit or sexism, racism, gayism (I don't know what is the current trend to talk about) stop? It is so annoying. Nobody I know gives a serious shit about anything about these things.

Loving how everybody in this thread keeps ignoring the fact that their favorite serie started with collectable cards of naked female conquests after having sex with them.

isn't there like a lore reason for all the sorceresses being super hot or something? like part of their looks are magick-ed to hide deformities and age? haha

I mean we're talking about a series where females wield the most power and where multiple sorceresses have the main protaganist under beck and call, even when it comes to sex. You even have (slight Hearts of Stone spoilers)
Geralt telling Shani that he's proud of her for being an independent, strong willed and hard working woman after she confesses about giving up her medical profession to look for a husband as her mother suggests.
Look at the Master Armorer side quest where the game calls out the sexism that's inherent in it's world. We're even talking about a game where one of the lead writers is female (and writer of the Bloody Baron quest no less)

Bring up the sex cards from Witcher 1 all you want, but that's in the past. Call CD Projekt Red sexist but do your homework first and play the games.

I think that you're giving The Chinese Room way to much credit there. I think that they're trying to stay relevant.

Well, they certainly are appealing to a certain group of people with statements like these, just like Trump does with his statements. Not that they can be directly compared, but making bait-comments like these will get you spotlight, plus there's bound to be a certain amount of people agreeing with your POV.
