The Chinese Room accuses CD Projekt Red of making sexist games

Status
Not open for further replies.
Surely, outside the context of the game itself, the fact that that image is being used for promotion does absolutely literally make her usage an 'eye piece'?
Pretty people used in marketing material, news at 11.

Also, Gamespot put the picture up, not CDProjekt.

The desire for intercourse, the most natural thing in the world, is a sin now. Man should feel ashamed if they want to see nice boobs and pretty faces. What a word we are living in?

One where everyone should be policed and feel shame.

We've had the violent video games make people go insane argument, now we need to spend a few years with the sex or nakedness of characters is sexist.

Hillary Clinton and Jack Thompson had their fame with the violence bandwagon. Anita Sarkeesian has ushered in the sex in videogames is sexist/bad angle which is popular right now. It'll pass as well.

Those offended about violence, sex or nudity in games just need to pay attention to ESRB ratings and consume titles that align with their personal views on such topics.

Loving how everybody in this thread keeps ignoring the fact that their favorite serie started with collectable cards of naked female conquests after having sex with them.

We remember. But I mean come on, it's the "mood" of this game, many people have an image of the "middle age" or the "fantasy middle age" with men being knight, warriors, kings, etc, and women being host in a Inn, working in a "Brothel", etc. And even, in this game it's not that stupid, many women are strong women, Triss, Yen, Ciri... They are not dumb, useless, or anything like that...

And what is sexist about Cyberpunk 2077? The fact that the woman on this artwork is sexy? So sexy women should hide their bodies? Should not appear in games? Who is sexist then?

I enjoy every kind of heroin, however they look like. I like the "girl next door" style of the heroin of inFamous First Light, etc.

This "hey it's sexist" and all this feminism trend is really annoying to me. I'm for "women power", I'm for LGBT marriage and for the equality of everybody no matter their sexuality, religion choices, etc. But come on it becomes annoying and ridiculous... Those people who have no real causes to fight for and try to find one no matter what...

so now you make fun of a psychological condition that has nothing to do with this tweet or CDR?

Isn't being "triggered" just having a very strong negative emotional reaction to something? I don't know if that qualifies as a psychological condition.

you forgot to say kek

I don't know what "kek", "SJW" (social just warrior? someone who fights for justice or what?) are so please talk normal or explain these for me in a PM. I don't wanna google this and get to deep into this hole.

Whaaaat? Is this really a real psychological condition? I don't know what to believe anymore. It's a joke right? D: I really don't know

Edit: Googled that shit and I only find that this is not something real? It even has is own entry on urbandirectory which is the first search on Google? What is real now?

I too remember the old texts on how knights would frequently trade nudie-pics with eachother. There's no defending the Witcher 1 sex cards, CDRP wouldn't defend that shit either :p

Technically speaking, psychologically speaking, a trigger is just a reaction from outward stimuli, it can be positive or negative. Context is key.

Kek is essentially 4chan slang for lol, and he's implying your just a disguised 4chan member because he doesn't actually want to participate in a discussion, intentionally misinterpreted your comment, and essentially insulted you.

I'm surprised that this tweet is coming from official TCR twitter account. I mean it would be "fine" if this tweet was coming from someones personal account, but it sounds like they speak for the company as a whole.

Why do you se the term SJW if you don't even know what it means?

God damn it.

This is The Witcher. With woman that are stronger than men, with naked men, with naked women, with good sex scenes which you don't have to be ashamed of when you play the game and...it's from a book. A book where they talk like shit everywhere like in the game.

Can all this SWJ bullshit or sexism, racism, gayism (I don't know what is the current trend to talk about) stop? It is so annoying. Nobody I know gives a serious shit about anything about these things.

Hey everyone, you heard the guy, Nobody cares about sexism, racism, or homophobia. Oh well. Break it up, let's all go home. Guess we're done.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
It's all men in this thread isn't it?

I am not entirely sure about your intended message here, but I know more than just one woman who are into sexualized fantasy/sci-fi themes, create such art themselves, and dress themselves on occasions like that. I do not think that the question of perceived sexism has a homogeneous answer across gender lines. People and their opinions are diverse.

Agreed lol, but throwing a past game as an example is hardly fair or topical when that game was nearly 10 years ago and their more recent offerings are a plethora of self empowered women.

well, okay. It can be in correlation with an existing psychological illness.

like..because of stuff in my past, some things can trigger them and bring back memories ..complicated but of course you are kind of right. it is a symptom of something else.

Kinda funny because I get the feeling Mendrox isn't a native english speaker, it's silly to assume he should either care about or know all the words thrown around by dirtbags on the internet

That's cool but I was talking about Witcher 3 though.

Regarding that tweet thing, I kinda blame Gamespot for chosing that picture when it's not really illustrating much of what's going on in the article. I'll judge Cyberpunk...when it's released. I don't have anything against that character really, it might end up being well written.

Its not even a real character. Its just promo at the end of the day after so many years.

Plus Cypberpunk is not known for being PC. Because it seems that scantly clad is now sexism as per the context. Since the talking point isn't Witcher, and even if it was blame the source but even then people are missing the strong female characters in the series overall.

Just to bitch about some slip up's and the sexual elements. We might as be sterile as a species and never take off are clothes.

If that same image is attached to any other game, say a random mobile game in their advert for example, would people still say that the image is not sexist?

Can we move on? It's been 9 years ago. The year the first iPhone was released and Nintendo was the undisputed leader in console sales, having dominated the market with DS and Wii.

Oh come on. It comes from World of Warcraft and is what human players see when Orc says lol, which in turn comes from Korean players playing SC.

Complaining that the Witcher is sexist is like complaining Game of Thrones is sexist. They're based on books that try to depict medieval times ffs.

Technically, they have nothing to do with medieval times. Of course it's being used as some form of inspiration but the action takes place in a fantasy world so "medieval" doesn't really make sense.

Fantastapotamus

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
I'm sure CDP is crying right now.

Complaining that the Witcher is sexist is like complaining Game of Thrones is sexist. They're based on books that try to depict medieval times ffs.

Since I don't really watch or care about that show: Does it often get accused of being sexist? Pretty much all I hear about it in my little bubble is that "It's the show were everybody shows their tits and get's murdered"

Misinterpreted, see my other posts. Thank you. Otherwise send me a PM and we can talk. Some of you guys are real mean and should be a bit more polite with your insults.

I sent him a PM to explain himself. Dunno how to handle this :)

Fair enough, but "Kek" seems awfully specific to how a stereotipicsl 4chan sad puppy would reply.

If that wasn't his intent then I rescind my comment.

*edit

Rereading I'm confused on your meaning? I was trying to explain to mendrox what I interpreted the kek comment to mean.

Thank you for explaining.

Why not just use lol? D:

At CD Projekt Red, it has always been our goal to take you on adventures both legendary and grounded in reality, to tell you stories where breath taking magic, fantastic creatures and age old prophecies are interwoven with religious fanaticism, war crimes and even sexism.

I enjoy both developers but if you wanted to start a discussion about the topic, surely there were less inflammatory ways to do so, The Chinese Room. I think there's certainly a discussion to be had but you have already set the tone.

At the same time, dismissing their opinion on anything because they don't make "good games" is equally as crass.

Exactly.

And for those on the SJW front, go browse Tumblr for a few days. Half of the modern day feminists reblog pictures of naked women and "arty" sexual pictures. Tumblr is almost more of a porn site than Porn hub. But I guess it's okay to see females enjoy sexually stimulating material, but if you can nail guys for doing it, you can shame them and call them sexist.

Dude telling me to go on would be like telling me to let go of Nintendo forever, I can't man. I can't. It's too hard :'(.
Fuck this upcoming E3, seriously :(

But yeah a 10 year old game doesn't really belong in the discussion.

Technically speaking, psychologically speaking, a trigger is just a reaction from outward stimuli, it can be positive or negative. Context is key.

I was specifically referring to the context that was implied by anything that revolves around this conversation.

I still don't think it qualifies as a psychological condition.

Someone with PTSD can be triggered, as can someone who has lost someone close to them, as can someone who got fired from a job, as can some heinous racist seeing their child in an interracial relationship.

I don't think the personal history that creates the triggering stimuli response doesn't really qualify as a mental disorder. But I'm open to being wrong.

Like, isn't this a consequence to living? Clearly some events are going to cause more serious emotional responses than others, but also, some things won't necessarily cause emotional responses in some people that it would in others.

I just clicked my way through all the links to get the best possible version of the sexy girl pic.

I've come to terms with my chauvinistic tendencies long ago!

I was agreeing with you lol, it's like you say, it's just an effect, not the cause of. It's not a condition as much as it is the result of having a condition :p. Just like a fever isn't being sick, but a result of being sick.

"Good sex scenes" because i am straight of course, everybody likes straight sex am i right?

Huh?

Geralt is an existing character and he is straight. He's not going to start courting dandelion in his related quests, ever.

It's OK to not like any version of sex, but it's also not sensible to expect every taste to be catered to in a game where you play as a well defined character.

Oh I know it comes from wow, but it's also pretty commonly used at 4chan at the moment (more then usual), hence my interpretation.

If I'm incorrect I apologise and take back my interpretation.

I dunno, get Geralt and Dandelion just drunk enough, under a full moon with a warm summer breeze and they might just confess their eternal love to eachother. Though I'd argue that Zoltan and Geralt's bromance is stronger.
