The Chinese Room accuses CD Projekt Red of making sexist games

adult themes != chick in lingerie

And in the end I think CDPR is able to write good shit, with "adult themes" as you put it but when they never miss an opportunity to show cleavage or female ass or CTRL-C CTRL-V that prostitute NPC all over Novigrad I feel like they have some progress to do on that front.

And I feel like they will improve with Cyberpunk because they improved along the Witcher series.

a) That image didn't come from CDPR, but from 3rd party who made the teaser

There are worse examples of sexism in gaming than what we have seen in The Witcher series.

Was there controversy surrounding this developer in the past? Im sure there name cropped up over the last few months for something else but I cant seem to find anything?

Because it's usually the target goal of video game marketing, that doesn't mean everyone can't like it.

And once again, we can love games filled with sexism, I do love a lot myself but let's not cut a reflexion so easily, there's a lot of levels in sexism representations and it's ok to talk about it, no need to take me for an idiot or someone who doesn't know what is talking about.

To come back to The Witcher : yes the world is sexist and racist and the game sometimes is great at talking about it. Other times not. It's not all black and white, you know.

It's also not real life, it's a game. Real life sexual discrimination is a worthwhile topic, a video game really isn't. Just like books and movies can depict adult themes and people can manage to differentiate real life from fiction.

It's a politically correct social justice warrior approved tweet that I hope CDPR laugh at.

they're not wrong. i don't expect gaming side to see that though, as is plainly evident by this thread so far.
So Bey (Beyonce) must be the most sexist person on the planet when considering how she represents women through... herself.

Hint: the ChineseRoom is wrong on so many fronts here that it's mindblowing.gif

God damn it.

This is The Witcher. With woman that are stronger than men, with naked men, with naked women, with good sex scenes which you don't have to be ashamed of when you play the game and...it's from a book. A book where they talk like shit everywhere like in the game.

Can all this SWJ bullshit or sexism, racism, gayism (I don't know what is the current trend to talk about) stop? It is so annoying. Nobody I know gives a serious shit about anything about these things.
I'm entitled to talk about it calmly and with arguments but you don't really help with the "SJW bullshit" remark, there's really no need to be agressive and I don't ask you to take your game back and reject it because there's elements which could have been done a little lot better.

I mean we're talking about a series where females wield the most power and where multiple sorceresses have the main protaganist under beck and call, even when it comes to sex. You even have (slight Hearts of Stone spoilers)
Geralt telling Shani that he's proud of her for being an independent, strong willed and hard working woman after she confesses about giving up her medical profession to look for a husband as her mother suggests.
Look at the Master Armorer side quest where the game calls out the sexism that's inherent in it's world. We're even talking about a game where one of the lead writers is female (and writer of the Bloody Baron quest no less)

Bring up the sex cards from Witcher 1 all you want, but that's in the past. Call CD Projekt Red sexist but do your homework first and play the games.

Wrap it up, folks. Best post in the thread.

It was in the first game, you could have sex with different prostitutes and you'd get unique cards with nude pictures of them. Geralt was sleazy as fuck in the first game :lol

The first Witcher game had those. And there's no denying that was sexist.

It's in the first Witcher game. Definitely tasteless, and I'm glad they've matured past that.
Thanks, so about 10 years ago. Lot has changed in that time and seems CDProjekt grown with that. Was wrong then of course, but there are a lot of developers having sexist stuff in their previous output, while having grown in that matter over the last years. I'd judge them as a developer by what they are doing now with their products, not in the past.

CDPR are one of the most interactive devs with their community so we're bound to see a response soon: this is clearly bait though, TCR got a game announcement soon...I can feel it.

isn't there like a lore reason for all the sorceresses being super hot or something? like part of their looks are magick-ed to hide deformities and age? haha

Yeah, they can alter their looks, like real-life Photoshop. It's in the books too, so CDPR didn't make that up.

Why do people feel the need to attack Chinese Rooms games now? Attack and criticise the comment not the commenter, there are lots of people who took something worthwhile from their games too whether you liked them or not, their games have nothing to do with what they said.

Their used the company twitter account to shit on another developers games so i kinda think that their own catalouge is fair game too, no?

You're trying to pull the equal opportunity card but I'll be damned if they shied away from showing Geralt's butts every time it would have made sense when female characters are showed nude everytime it's possible.

C'mon breh. You can like something and be critical of it at the same time.

What nonsense. In the Witcher universe, the women are by far the most powerful. Sorceress like Yen and Triss are feared and respected. Just because they fall in love with a character like Geralt and actually use their femininity does not make them sexist characters. Holy shit.

yeah this coming out of the company twitter count is a bit weird. i mean taking a personal stand is one thing...but i kind of doubt everyone at the chinese room feels this strongly

Here we go.

"Good sex scenes" because i am straight of course, everybody likes straight sex am i right?
Random SJW homophobic insult, check.

Like the guy above me said, they can change their appearences like a regular guy changes their underwear, pretty much. And beauty sells, I think it's stated somewhere that being hot as fuck is a way go gain trust from the kings so they can influence events and keep peace in the world. All the kings are sleazy as fuck too, of course, so they'd obviously want a sexy powerful woman in their court.

Eh, you could argue that the sex scenes are straight because Geralt, the character, is straight. While he may have expressed himself clumsily, I don't think there's any ill will in his post, maybe a tad of ignorance, but nothing outright homophobic.

are you for real? this is a real problem, not only in the gaming industry. of course we have to talk about it so things can change.
behaviour like yours "don't talk about it then it will go away" or "don't talk about it bc it is not an issue" enables it imho.

of course it has to be discussed if this case is sexist. personally the only problem I have with the tweet is that they used the picture of the woman to get clicks but that is on GameSpot, not on CD Project.

100%. Whilst what they're claiming is true in some ways, the way they said it is so sour, salty and unprofessional.

I feel like that is an unrefined way to make a comment or critique something through official channels. Twitter? Maligning a whole studio of 300 odd people and their decade long creations?

OK.

Let's not pretend that in real life such a tacticwouldnt have worked either, sex appeal as something empowering has existed for since the beginning of everything.

Send me a PM if you got anything lolworthy to say. Just my opinion and this shit is annoying on here. There is a thread everyday on this type of shit and this case not even warrant.

Man you already won the lolworthy contest I can't compete with that

The desire for intercourse, the most natural thing in the world, is a sin now. Man should feel ashamed if they want to see nice boobs and pretty faces. What a world we are living in?

I only played the first Witcher game and I have to say that the "Sex Cards" was a pretty juvenile idea. But Triss was a character was great in the game she is not treated as a sex doll, she is well developed and has a lot of great moments with Geralt.

Just because you don't know anyone who cares about some issue, doesn't mean there aren't people who care or that there is no reason to care. And are you saying sexism, racism etc are not issues worth giving a shit?

Yeah, there's always a discussion worth having, but a drive by tweet?
Not a professional or impressive way to go.

Oh nooes!!! Boobies!! Everyone panic!! Sexism!!

For real though...this kinda sensationalist over-dramatic fight for social equity needs to stop. It's applicable here and there like in working conditions, but you cant be calling out someone or something every time a pair of tits appear in video games or movies or w/e.

I don't even want to know what SJW homophobic is, but it seems to help you. The Witcher has the option to not fuck everyone and even gives you shit if you cheat in this game.

This tweet is just for attention, because people get triggered (is this the correct new word? I hear this so much so it has to be) by something like this.

Just because you don't know anyone who cares about some issue, doesn't mean there aren't people who care or that there is no reason to care. And are you saying sexism, racism etc are not issues worth giving a shit?

Yes they are worthy of course I don't even know why you interpret it like this - get away. This is a video game. Treat it like a video game. It's not real.

I can understand all this outrage in real life (e.g. movies), but here? Games are a place where I don't need this real life bullshit in games.

The image they are referring to isn't about The Witcher 3. It's about that new Cyberpunk 2077 game, which gives no context beyond a singular image. Until that's reached, any assumptions as to whether or not the girl is being used as an eye piece and nothing more is just that - assumptions.

Surely, outside the context of the game itself, the fact that that image is being used for promotion does absolutely literally make her usage an 'eye piece'?

So because a woman feels sexy and empowered its sexist cause she takes her clothes off?

What

Well, did she take her clothes off for the sake of the player gazing at her body parts or did she not?

Like it or not, CDPR is--was?--a company that saw fit to see one of their major female characters featured inside playboy magazine, after all.

This is ridiculous.

I guess they never heard or seen the cypberpunk series before all this then. I guess Blade Runner is sexist, and Ex Machina aswell.

Yes they are, but this is a video game.

so now you make fun of triggers? triggers are not a non-issue like you make it sound.

That's cool but I was talking about Witcher 3 though.

Regarding that tweet thing, I kinda blame Gamespot for chosing that picture when it's not really illustrating much of what's going on in the article. I'll judge Cyberpunk...when it's released. I don't have anything against that character really, it might end up being well written.

If anything the Nature of Sorceresses in the Witcher Universe is that men are easily controlled bumbling morons .

Triss and others quite deliberately use Magic to enhance their looks and features because they "know" they can lead men around by their dicks. Triss and others without the magic are quite plain and in many cases old or disfigured etc.

I think you need to try and understand what sexism is.
No, I don't. The Witcher franchise present a universe where nearly every woman is fair game and wants to have sex with Geralt, while the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer is your typical sexbot-gets-violent imagery that is boring and sexist.
