I just hope Nathan's handbook has a ton of humor in it like it did in UC2. I liked the reference to Gollum and the totem thing saying it would eat Drake lol.

I don't have the game myself but these are some impressions from someone who's beaten it.

Spoiler-free impressions:
- Gameplay is fantastic. Shooting now has a weight to it and the freedom of how you tackle encounters feels great.
- Set pieces are less bombastic, but no less memorable or exciting.
- Chapters are more meaningful and each one feels very distinct. They're much longer than in previous games too.
- Speaking of which, my end clock was 14 hours. I reckon most playthoughs will be between 12-16 hours. It's pretty meaty!
- Music has less memorable themes, but it's the best implementation of music in the series. Firefight music in particular is great (very pirate like)
- It's the best looking game on the system bar none...you already knew that.
- But what shines is the art direction, it's so beautiful! Colors are vibrant and each environment is so wonderfully well crafted, it feels so organic.
- Smoothest 30fps game I've ever played, no hyperbole. Their masterful implementation of motion blur is like nothing I've ever seen.
- Incredibly clean image, everything is so sharp and the AA solution removes any noticeable jaggies.
- Details, details, details. People say you don't notice the little things, you do. In many ways it's the 'biggest' Uncharted, but it's also the most down to earth, so all the little things stand out so much more.
- The ending is perfect. PERFECT!

Unfortunately they're JPEGs but still look great.

WTF does "less bombastic" even mean? Less frequent action? What? Because the set piece they've shown is simply incredible. I'm simply confused by this statement and assume it is just poor word choice?

I don't get it either, like the E3 set piece alone is probably the most bombastic in the series, so what, ND showed their biggest and most bombastic set piece and the rest are not as big?

Don't know what it means but both guys that called it "not bombastic" said they are awesome in their own way so I'm not worried.

Oh and the cel shaded gif is SICK! like omg how much higher can a hype go at this point???

I think they probably mean more about scale and tone. Nothing like capsizing cruise ships or flying out of airplanes and the like. Smaller scale, but no less bombastic in terms of action.

I love these shots in particular from Shinobi's post. The lighting especially just looks amazing. Location spoilers obviously.

Amazing. About damn time someone caught up with Playground Games in that regard.

Playground isn't or wasn't ahead of the curve on that front in the first place. 139ms input lag for Forza Horizon 2 isn't actually that good. Other 30fps racers actually manage much lower, but you probably don't notice it as much because of the motion blur, accomplished controls etc.

In terms of the set pieces being less bombastic I assume they mean less staged linear setpieces. Like instead of huge scale spectacle that's super scripted, maybe the setpieces are more organic and give the player more control during them.
The ship sinking while you're on it was insane so maybe there's nothing quite to that scale in UC4.

Its not hard as all as long as you have the right screwdriver and torx security openers. Make you're you take the power supply out and clean the heat sink too.

I do it once every 2-3 months with my launch unit and I've never had an issue. Entire process takes like 15 minutes.

Its alot easier than taking apart the PS3. I didn't go as far as removing the power supply like recommended above. I felt exposing the fan was enough. You can see the heatsink inside; a little canned air (be careful with canned air!) along with a little vacuuming and dusting seemed to remove any visible dust. My PS4 was getting to jet engine levels (I could hear it even with headphones on!) but now it's extremely quiet.

Thanks. Will do it for sure.

I think I did all of 3's puzzles without help, but some of them took awhile to do. I want to say 3's are the most memorable, even after playing 1 and 2 recently and not 3, I still remember 3's the most.
Though the pacing of puzzles in 3 wasn't as well done as 2.

All this footage is making me wait for the Neo with even more anticipation. This at 60fps or with better IQ. Hnnngh

aww man, i was kind of hoping for more crazy cruise ship-like set pieces

shipyard + cruise is my favorite set piece in any video game

Are we overhyping this game? I feel like mass disappointment is inevitable.

As long as you stay in the realm that is probably better than U2 which is one of the greatest action games ever made I don't see how it can be a disappointment. Depending on your love for Uncharted you can kind of guess where this game will fit in your all time favorites.

Went to a little local place today near me, thinking I was being clever, maybe they'd sell it to me early.

Closed all bank holiday weekend.

Be prepared for some more random screens of details. Like explosion smoke, bullets, debri, etc from Madagascar level. Gimme one sec.

Can you tell us a bit more about particle effects? Particularly those caused by bullets?

Loved how great smoke and debris looked in all the pre release footage. Hopefully it remained untoched.

I don't know what/where that is from, it's the smoothest looking AND playing 30fps game I've played, and their motion blur technique is highly regarded. And I am glad to hear U4 will be smooth similarly.
So what is this supposed to mean to me, when my hands and eyes tell me that it's the smoothest 30fps game I've played?

Either way, getting off topic.
I'm glad their technique allowes for super smooth 30.

Haha I don't think I've ever seen one of those in the UK.

I'm just hoping the sketchy UK online retailers ship it as soon as they get stock in.
