Rockstar wishes they could make a GTA game with controls as smooth as this, shooting mechanics this well executed and combat encounter design this good.

A GTA game with stealth mechanics as well executed as Watch Dogs and a game that gives you the kind of combat options you have in Watch Dogs would be fucking awesome.

Yup. Sure Aiden, Chicago and the story were really mediocre, but at least the game fucking played.

Like, I can never understand people telling me R* games feel good to play, when they feel like trying to move a dry sponge on sandpaper. Only time they ever made something that felt good was the horse controls in RDR, and even then controlling John felt bad.

Well, I mean... Max Payne 3 probably has the best TPS shooting mechanics ever, next to Vanquish so...

We're talking open world Rockstar? Even then, I'd say GTA V on PC with Kb/m makes for some great firefights online.

I remember when I was so hyped about the first game

and now there is a teaser for the sequel and I can't even pretend to care

but then again no big has impressed me this gen.

I still think WD2 is gunna blow people away. Thy have such a solid base to grow from and they can reall go in so many interesting ways with the concept.

This. WD was not a perfect game by any metric, but damn if I didn't enjoy my time with it and damn if I'm not excited for WD2

i wouldn't say i'm hyped but i thought the first game was pretty good and if they can make an AC1 -> AC2 leap then they are going to be in good shape.

maybe its good to have tempered hype this time around. i'd like to be pleasantly surprised.

stealth and cover mechanics were better than assassins creed but what i really want is more verticality in the world. kind of one of the main complaints i also have with gtav. albeit its a little bit harder to explain why dudes are able to parkour effortlessly...although aiden was pretty much batman so you might as well have given him a grappling hook.

they handled it pretty well in dying light in terms of having normal humans being able to traverse buildings quickly.

Terrible teaser but I'm excited for more watchdogs . Love the first one and if they can up the openworld detail and interactivity it could be amazing .

Do they have a solid base?

I thought Watch Dogs 1 pretty much exhausted the possibilites of a hacking phone in gameplay. I mean, creating cover and blowing up explosive barrelsgenerators isn't exactly compelling.

You take that back@

I still take strolls down the street in Watch dogs

I have never taken my time to walk in any other game released

The first one had great graphics so I am hopeful.

I just can't get excited for another Ubisoft open world game, maybe if the graphics are as good as the original's reveal trailer...

You know, I'd jump on you saying "they've only made one game, how can you even say they can't make a good protagonist", but Ubi Montreal haven't had an interesting protagonist since Ezio
I'd personally say since Connor, but I know I am in the minority on that one
.

They seem to be better at making side characters/villains than actual player characters.
ACII really had the best and most memorable cast of characters I can think of of any Ubisoft game as well. Leonardo da Vinci, Ezio's family, even Desmond and the modern day characters were at their best, Ezio's uncle, Rodrigo Borgia as villain. Black Flag might have come closest.

Yeah, I agree bout Connor.

I was too distracted by MP3s pretentious story, but even then that game didn't feel good to play. It was an exhausting gauntlet of firefights without the fun movement of something like Vanquish

My problem with all R* games is the fact your character feels awful to control and interact with. Where as Aiden felt smooth to move. The poor interaction coupled with the fact your only solution is to firefight and nothing else, coupled with their absurdly aggressive AI makes the games feel awful to play.

I'm very excited. I played the hell out of the 1st one. I almost platinumed it, if it wasn't for the stupid drinking minigame. My friends and I made up all sorts of different game modes when playing online. We'd go to the park on the west side of the map and play fire truck demolition derby, or we'd shoot each other and go running for the train to get away. If the 2nd one improves over the 1st one, it may be the game I play the most this year.

The thing that makes GTA alright is that you spend most of the mission time in your car, which controls great and when you are on foot in combat sections you have auto aim. Its fine. Its not a precision shooter. The game doesnt rely on getting headshots.

I admit that running is weird though. Im not sure why its so iffy. I feel like they try to make it more realistic, but comes off as janky. Its been that way since GTA4/RDR.

I mean, its amusing and interesting to use the profiler to read some text messages and some of the fun little occupations some of them had, but it didn't really add anything to the game asides from the odd "text distractions" you could do on some enemies. Overall I just felt Chicago felt like a bland video game city, nothing about it really felt like it had an identity of its own like Renaissance Italy in AC2, the Carribean in AC4, the West in RDR. Then again, I typically don't find modern cities particularly interesting, so that could be why.

Its a real shame they ditched Connor because people disliked him at first. Its a waste considering the amount of effort they put into researching Native Culture for him, hiring Native VA's, and the fact he had the potential to grow as a character like Ezio did. Instead we got ubi backpeddling him into a corner in exhange for a flood of characters trying to replicate what made Ezio great. Edward would probably be the most sucessful attempt at that, but Arno, Jacob and Evie are literally nothing and the most forgettable characters in the series.

Like I said, their writers seem better at side characters/villains like Vaas, Pagan Min, Jordi Chin, Lucky Quinn that their actual protagonists like Aiden, Jason Brody, Ajay Ghale, etc.

Im talking about just walking around in Chicago for no reason other than to just walk

I don't even think the cars feel good, since the fact that hitting something causes you to come to a complete stop, which is realistic sure, but its not fun. Its not enjoyable getting killed in a chase because you hit another car, and the cops just fucking shoot at you while you try to recover and die.

And as you said, the actual act of making your character move feels bad. The auto aim shooting feels bad because making your character move feels bad.

And then you have the main missions which are a fire and forget collection of mechanics that will never actually have any bearing on the main game. So you have a game that is a collection of nothing mechanics and the actual core feels awful to use.

Interacting with GTAV and MP3 was never enjoyable to me. It felt awful most of the time, and tolerable at some.

The only game I think felt ok was RDR, because the horse controls worked great, the fact the semi automatic weapons was the majority of the arsenal you and the enemies had access too, and the fact that world was actually engaging and was filled with characters who didn't feel like shit caricatures that I wanted nothing to do with helped it a lot.

Like, people give ubi shit for repeating the same mechanics, but at least they feel good to interact with.

Very iconic
This should never die until Ubi really gets their collective shit together again.

Person of Interest does an amazing job with a similar concept. Watch Dogs coud be an amazing take on that idea in game form if done right

Good job Ubi teaser team. Nailed it.

So what happens when they inevitably and embarrassingly try to crib from Mr.Robot for the plot?
I can't wait for the new Ghost Recon to crib something like Sicario.

*barfs* Autoaim is a farce. It makes me feel like I'm playing whack-a-mole (except even easier). I always turn it off in every game I play even with analog sticks instead of a mouse but in GTA aiming feels subpar without it. Plus you have to hold the right trigger down halfway to be able to strafe so movement in combat feels clunky as hell. And the worst thing about it is all they had to do was copy Max Payne 3's combat.

It can actually look pretty amazing at times, on PC. The weather effects were also very impressive.

As a much as people make fun of that pic Dennis posts, I really did like the DoF in Watch Dogs. I thought it looked quite good at times on PC, especially with TheWorst Mod.

I'd just like to point out that if that's Marcus' model it looks like they did a good job on his hands (or his hand, I guess). If you didn't know a black person's hands are one of those things games get wrong too often, and when they do get it right it doesn't always look like natural pigmentation. The lighting looks a little funny and a dress shirt that dense is strange, however. Maybe it's just the lining.

I know it doesn't tickle everyone but I'm glad to see the Fox logo and data moshing return. That shit is beautifully designed, or as I like to say, cool-looking as hell.

The tessellated water looked great. I wish the water looked this good in Witcher 3.
It does look really good but aside from the terrific wake it looks pretty bad when interacted with. The splashes from swimming and diving are kind of pathetic. It doesn't even look like Aiden is in there.

Watch_Dogs in the end was the most boring gameplay i have ever experienced with one the biggest asshole protagonist i can think off..also the hacking mechanics where meh it was more shooty shooty instead of doing hacking stuff etc a dull open world game with almost nothing to do.

I hope for the love of god they learned there lesson and do it better but i don't have high hopes for it.

I'll never understand why GTA V has such poor responsiveness on consoles. For what it's worth, GTA V on PC might as well be Max Payne 3 PC without bullet time. The controls are fantastic, there.

Excited

Granted the whole downgrade mess of 1 the game had a lot going.

The whole quest with the ghettos in Chicago were well done

Driving in GTA V is incredible. Even just starting up a 3 star police chase in GTA V in first person is the better than anything in Watchdogs by a long shot, it's exhilerating.

people that don't like Rockstar games just always say their gameplay sucks. I have even heard people actually say online that the driving in Sleeping Dogs was better than GTA V 😂
