Rumor: Crash Bandicoot is back... In Skylanders

they could confirm/announce this and right after it also announce a new Crash game, or Knack 2.

meltdowns either way.

That doesnt make a lot of sense though, Activision could have put Crash in Skylanders at any time. There doesnt need to be a bonus that lets them use him now.

That's what gets me. They're not exactly topping last year's "guest" character, either. They had Bowser and Donkey Kong. You don't get any better than that until you put Sonic, Pac-Man, Mario or Luigi in. Why now? Why would Activision find Crash's 20th anniversary the right time to put him in? Why wasn't Crash allowed in Tony Hawk 5? Why wasn't Crash put in for his 15th Anniversary? Was it because they wanted to focus on Spyro back then?

Uncharted's reception couldn't have quickly put Crash in Skylanders-- it makes no logical sense. Something else seems to be happening.

Well I'm still 100% confident in a new game

Obviously Sony owns the rights
since Activision isn't credited in Uncharted 4. And they would have to be.

Its obvious Sony owns the rights. And maybe this was part of the deal/cross promotion, the only thing is they may have gotten the rights a bit too late to show any new game at e3, but after all this they'll certainly announce its in development.

Yeah, either way I still think a new game is happening. There's just way too much smoke over way too many years.

I'm still wondering about this too actually since it's so weird.
Even if they had a deal for just that one occasion, I can't imagine that legally there is any way they could have not put Activision in the credits had the rights still been theirs despite them trying to play coy by saying that Activision still has it when UC4 came out and the shots leaked. I would think it would be required.

I mean they're similar, but it is certainly missing the charm of the original series.

Vast improvement imo, but then I wasn't invested in the old Spyro.

My personal feeling is that a new game is unlikely but they may test the market with a remaster and some new appearances.

I could see there being an appearance in Skylanders, potentially an appearance in a Playstation All-Stars type game, and maybe an HD remaster of one of the original games (or the Trilogy).

I wonder if potentially Sony didn't buy the rights to the Character for new games but potentially bought the rights to the games that they had published originally - which would also be why it was able to use the first game in Uncharted 4 without having to give any credit to activision.

The Crash minigame in Uncharted 4
stop calling it an easter egg ffs
, is not emulated. It's built from the ground-up and mimics the original game, but has new textures, models, animations, physics, programmed in C++ instead of GOUL, runs in Naughty Dog's engine natively, and has no ties to the original source. The only thing taken from the original is the title screen, which is a video of the original game.

Edit: some old sounds were also reused. There are new ones subtly added not present in the original game. The song for Boulders is also from the original game, and still compressed.

Neat. I'm like the direction spyro took with skylanders fit the franchise. Crash seems like he would better fit as a character in Skylabders rather than having an entirely new game around him. It's not the '90s anymore.

Guys couldn't it be possible that Activision made a clause in the licencing agreement that if Sony bought or borrowed the Crash IP Activision are allowed to still use him in a set number of Skylanders games?

It is a win/win for both companies.

If PS4 Crash is popular it will also help push Skylander sales and kf Skylanders sales do well it increases chance of more Crash games...

While it'd be really fucking funny if the past few years of monthly "does THIS random tweet mean Crash is coming back?????????????" threads culminated in Crash as a Skylander, wouldnt him being exclusive to the PS4 version mean he's effectively a guest star like Donkey Kong and Bowser? I think that points towards there being another game personally.

I've been saying this. It can gauge interest in the Crash IP by having Skylanders promote the game like how it did for Nintendo with DK and Bowser.

But people here would rather jump to conclusions and want to laugh at people's hopes and dreams.

It's hard to even have a decent conversation here without shit like that happening.

Missed a trick not calling the thread "Retailer leak: Crash Bandicoot returning as PS4 exclusive..."

But yes, this would be so hilarious to see announced at E3.

If this is true it would suck if he's limited to only the PS3/PS4 versions of the game. But if Sony has wrangled the rights somehow it might make sense.

Makes me feel lonely as the person who's getting it on Xbox One with no special guests to call my own. Even DK and Bowser are at least going to work in the next Wii U game.

Well, I agree with you. There is also the fact that it says Crash would be Ps4 exclusive and that doesn't make any sense. Because if they still 100% on the rights then not having crash on every platform would be insane and would achieve less sales.

Guys this being true is good news. Especially the PS4 exclusive part. Why do you think he would be PS4 exclusive? Think about it. If this is happening, a PS4 exclusive Crash game is coming too.

This might be a timed/bundle-exclusive. Crash might work on other platforms if you have the figurine, but you can buy him only from the Sony pack, or by waiting for his individual release. The Nintendo characters made sense to only be on Nintendo platfiorms (that makes up half the systems Skylanders releases on, too). Crash could be a nod and good notion to Sony, but not be tied to only be playable on PS4.

Dark Spyro could only be purchased by buying the 3DS version, for example.

on a side note, what if this is the only requirement Actii is asking of Sony for them to be able to use the IP?

What? Sony getting an exclusive Skylander is not helping Activision in the slightest. They would want a toy to be supported on all platforms to increase sales. This is for Sony's benefit to get more sales on their platform.

How would they make this a PS4 exclusive? I thought the whole point was you could buy these characters and use them on any console

It's entirely possible that the figure is exclusive to a PS4 bundle initially but will get it's own release later on, like the Disney Infinity stuff did with Hulk and Boba Fett.

Yup, the spoiled is all I need to have total confidence.

With all this teasing and hinting toward Crash, and this turns out to true... This is going to be me for the next few days after...

Sony, please, not like this...

Crash is one of my most wanted game revivals from Sony, along with Syphon Filter and SOCOM, but I can't help but wish that this is the only Crash related announcement at E3 just for the internetz rage afterwards.

The difference in reaction between this thread regarding Crash in Skylanders and the thread for the new Lego Dimensions stuff regarding the dozen or so IPs they're getting for that game is kind of amazing.

Do people just hate Skylanders that much? They're pretty well-made games and the new one is adding a Diablo style loot system alongside their character creation stuff to give it a lot more depth. Guest star figures should just make people more into it instead of making them throw a fit, but that's not what's going on here at all.
