Skylanders official website updates to include Crash Edition tab

For everyone that's super convinced that this doesn't rule out another Crash project, I have to ask, how does this actually help the idea of another Crash project? I really don't get the logic how this Crash inclusion in Skylanders really helps the idea that more Crash is out there.

It doesn't, but it doesn't hurt it. Skylanders is popular and if they were releasing a new Crash game then sticking him in Skylanders in order to boost his popularity with kids would be a good idea.

Sony presumably paid to make this so like with Boba Fett and Disney Infinity. They're pretty up on getting this genre.

Could be, but it seems like such a senseless thing to pay for, how out of touch can Sony/Activision be?

That could just be miscomunication or Gamestop being hopeful. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Skylanders: Crash Edition gets revealed at the Microsoft press event.

This is really a worst case scenario, I'd rather they just forget about the franchise.

Sony likely wants it and they're willing to pay like Boba Fett or Bowser/Donkey Kong.
I wonder if Crash is more relevant than either of those 3 characters

I'm hoping this is just like the Sony/Marvel thing with Spiderman, Sony has the rights but they have some deal with Acti in place.

Sony gets Back The Crash Bandicoot IP - Activision can use Crash in Skylanders (only for Ps4)

Crash on his way back to glory is more useful for Activision in Skylanders, than the dead IP they didn't use in any way the past year

By giving Sony the Crash IP back, atleast they know, there is a potential chance, that the IP will become more popular again --> better for Skylanders

Also, why should Sony troll us? They know exactly how the Reactions would be.

When they did it with Final Fantasy 7 at the PSX, they know the real Remake is in Development.

Activision doesn't have the rights to make Marvel games, including Spider-Man, anymore. Sony can make games for Spider-Man based off of their movie rights.

I meant the movies, Sony Pictures and Marvel. I'm hoping something similar is happening between Activision and Sony with Crash.

Actually Activision still has the right to make Spider-Man game based on the movie till 2017.

Really, though, what is in this for Activision? They are going to let Sony have a IP just so they bring it to new heights, just to sell a few more units of a game that doesn't really need that help to sell to begin with...? I don't know, I just don't see it.

You boys and girls need to chill out. They probably are doing a bunch of Crash related things including bringing him back to the forefront. Play ball the right way, get it in your court.

They probably aren't going to let Sony own the IP fullstop. Sony will have to work with Activision to get the game off the ground, in addition to Skylanders stuff.

The part about it being gone as soon as he posted it was off putting but if you did then yeah.

I'm not in the business of lying about Crash Bandicoot :V

Some people still see the tab, I personally don't anymore. Haven't checked the mobile site. My connection is ass and it's a personal miracle I had the connection speed and it wasn't intermittent long enough for me to copy paste some other guy's screenshot.

Funniest thing about this is that this will be the highest budget a Crash game would have ever gotten, it also means that Activision will be more invested in giving it the time the team needs to make a good game.

isn't that better instead of doing nothing with the IP themself?

There could be more Partnerships/Deals included where Activision will profit from it

Unless Sony's willing to overpay, which I doubt they are, Activision has no reason to sell. Sony has no leverage here.

I play Skylanders with my little sister allllll the time and this is going to be a great excuse to play as Crash in a new video game. And show her some of the old PS1 games.

I hope he unlocks his spin attack as his special Sensei move for the custom characters.

If there is a game I just hope they announce the dlc at the beginning and the game at the very end. I want to see this meltdown for as long as I can.
I'll probably be melting down as well

then why wasn't activision name mentioned in the credits of Uncharted 4? shouldn't that be an indicitation, that they no longer own the ip

I legit can not fathom sony announcing this at e3 it would legit be spit in the face laughable. But i guess if ms can do it with conker sony can do it with crash

There are two options. You can collab with the developer to use the IP, or you can buy the IP outright. Sony has been trying number two for ages, and Act isn't giving decent prices (look at what happen with Sony Smash). So they are going with route 1. Sony is the leader in the console industry, and allowing them to either use the IP or co-develop Crash helps sell Skylanders.

This is not difficult.

Crash's appearance in Skylanders will clearly just boost his profile for a new solo game. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go play all of the amazing core Spyro games that were spawned by the success of his appearance in said series.

Honestly though, I don't see this as much more than Activision cashing in on the nostalgia for an old brand. It'll get a few more parents to buy the new sets, and Crash (alongside his pals) will sink into a bloated roster of generic enemies.

There has to be a legit Crash game announcement coming alongside this. Surely, even the company that trotted Hashimoto on stage back in 2014 to announce a PS1 port of FFVII can't be crazy enough just to announce this, right?

Crash isn't going to help Skylanders. Skylanders sells on its' own merits and would sell without him just fine. Sony needs/wants Crash, but they do not own it. So again, they have no leverage in the matter. It's not their property. It's Activision's. If Sony wants to pay them an asston of money for it, I'm sure Activision be happy with a royalty check, but again, Sony is in no position to be making demands for a dead IP that they do not own when they cannot give Activision anything of value in return.
