I didn't do Ambuscade at all last month, but this month's armos set being a good fit for monk tempts me.
Still, I've been running around with a general item level of 115, where my highest iLevel item was my Eminence weapon, so the new Intermediate RoE Tutorial tasks are a nice kick in the pants to get me to gear up (even if mostly with Eminence stuff for the general 117 iLevel objective), and maybe become more viable for an Ambuscade party.

The thing about the new objectives is that the reward go from iLevel 117 Eminence stuff to a WKR kupon, and AFAIK those items are iLevel 115... is there even anything there that's better than Eminence stuff for MNK or BLU? Maybe accessories, since mine's levels are kinda low?

I missed out on getting Sulevia's even though I could definitely use it. Chances are I won't be able to grind out this one either, despite having MNK that could use it. I've got two fighting game tournaments this month to practice for.

I hate the new Ambuscade. Doom and one shot attacks make it really frustrating.

My pug eventually got the hang of it on Difficult, the only recurring frustrations were the knockback on the tank at the start of the fight and a DRK who insisted on using last resort then dying to the first Mow. At VD I presume the mitigation provided by Utsusemi, a GEO or dedicated RDM is essential to keeping everyone alive.

You can still get Sulevia through Gallantry, the new currency you get by partying up for Ambuscade.

On another note, the campaigns for this month are b-a-l-l-e-r. My schedule is basically grinding Avatar fights for loot/chapters/plutons, and Incursion for a CP mantle/coffers to pop Reisen T2s.

Yea I saw the gallantry thing. We will see what I can get to. The biggest problem for me is that I cant mail the gear between characters, and one character has MNK, the other DRK.

Hoping I can get some CP farming and Pluton farming in with thee campaigns. As well as coerce people to do some Dawn 2 for a fettering blade, however with Uncharted 4 out, and my 2 FG tourneys, dunno if I will find time for either.

So are trusts, for some unexplained reason. I went out to Reisenjima to solo some CP yesterday and my usual group of Shantotto II, Iroha II, Ulmia, Koru-Moru and Yoran-Oran were tearing things up faster than I was used to. I turned off my party damage filters to see what was happening and sure enough their physical and magical attack damage all got boosted with this update. Shantotto was landing 2K auto attacks and free nuking for over 3.5K while both her and Iroha's WS damage seemed to have been doubled or better. According to others, damage mitigation by tank trusts was improved as was every trust's accuracy. Wondering if this change is here to stay, but knowing SE I'm thinking it's too good to be true.

Item Level itself means very little, unless you're summoning Trusts and need them to be as strong as possible. It means even less for RoE, since the Sparks gear was routinely outdone by the i109 Artifact and Relic reforge (placing its true relative power somewhere between i105 and i110, depending on piece), and several i115 WKR items were best in slot versus even i119 Delve pieces.

For example:

Uk'uxkaj Cap - DEF:95 HP+28 MP+22 STR+22 DEX+25 VIT+22 AGI+25 INT+22 MND+22 CHR+23 Evasion+34 Magic Evasion+46 "Magic Def. Bonus"+2 Critical hit rate +3% Haste+7%
(from Marjami Ravine WKR/Hurkan)

is better than:

Espial Cap - DEF:94 HP+32 MP+17 STR+20 DEX+22 VIT+20 AGI+22 INT+20 MND+20 CHR+20 Accuracy+5 Evasion+37 Magic Evasion+40 "Magic Def. Bonus"+3 Haste+7% Set: Critical hit damage +10%

Even before you factor in that the Uk'uxkaj Cap can become even more powerful via augmenting at the Prah Janimhar NPC.

Yeah I read about that. Considering SE's incompetence with code, maybe they accidentally boosted all trust stats by 50% instead of just HP/MP, lol.

We got this months Ambuscade figured out. Our problem was, while we did bring the demon down low, we didn't bring it down low enough. Figured out we have to weaken them so that they basically die at the same time or seconds apart.

Still some deaths from stray missed Dooms though. Doom is the worst.

Ended up doing this tonight on VD, but we went about it a little differently.

Basically just killed the taurus before moving on to the demon, and then murdering it. (hopefully before dread spikes went up, but if not, eh) Did have a couple deaths from spikes in our earlier runs, and also a couple flukey ones from Soul Drain, but that's it. No real problems with doom or anything.

Got enough points between hallmarks and gallantry to completely upgrade a new cape, so I'm satisfied with that for the night.

Alright, free login is up.

Does anyone have this month update .rar?

Managed to get the get it to evolved with 1 try, nice. :) Alas, at this point I don't need CP anymore lol...

I'm more interested in the cactus final evolution now since I always forget to wear my GEO boots for the speed boost.

If you haven't bought Seekers of Adoulin, can you still use this free login campaign to try it out? And if so, would you have to download anything extra, or just make sure your client is up to date?

I don't think it can let you access something you never bought - but if you have a level 99, there's a new Records of Eminence quests level that can get you armor slightly past level 99 from that area.

Man those Mog Kupons from the new RoE quests are amazing.

Wow, reading the part on windskeeper reives makes me all the more appreciative that Taruranto helped me do that one yesterday.

Looks like Skirmish is my next stop, most places I check suggest A. Skirmish gear anyway, so suppose I need to roll up my sleeves and read about them today.

Trying to go angaist Provenance Watcher alone with trusts, but it's impossible without a solid damage output.

Worse yet, I lost all the KI, now I need to do at least two of the KI fights, which I can't solo either. =_=

Getting tempted to hop in over the summer. Haven't played since Promathia, but find myself wanting to wander around its world for a while. All of the quality of life improvements, trusts and the like make the idea all the more enticing.

Welp, game uninstalled.

I felt pretty satisfied after finishing VW storyline and there isn't much I need to do in-game at this point. I would have liked to get an Idris, but that involves slamming my head against the Coalitions wall. Not fun.

My character still exist so I may come back in the far future, if they decide to merge the servers, but for now I'm done. See you on the other side, fellas.

So it seems like all the mage jobs are the most wanted jobs right now for the endgame which sucks for me since am not really into mage jobs or PLD/RUN.

BLU isn't really that mage-y. Maybe take a look at BLU?

Son learning blue magic is going to kill me lol.

Edit : is it possible to solo ambuscade very easy with trusts?if so what is the strategy? i tried to it few times but i always die after killing the pet....i want to finish this damn RoE quest.

Yeah the end-game meta right now is pretty bad for melee outside of BLU and maybe DNC. It's tough going, I've been working on my BST little by little but the current job balance and state of Sylph isn't really motivating me.

Yes. Weaken one, kill the other, then kill the one you weakened.

So, for example, weaken the big one until it's at 5% health or so, kill the small one but save some TP to finish off the big one. They "enrage" when the other one dies so you want to kill them both as close together as you can.

How often do they do the free login periods? This isn't the first one, is it?

Anyways, I've restarted playing during the free period with the expressed purpose of getting to 99 and finally finishing some story-based content, and I was able to finally complete Divine Might after all these years, along with the rest of the Zilart missions. Also finished up apocalypse nigh, so I've moved onto wotg now. Also took my trusts up to max and that's Just made going through story mode so much fun.

And being able to quick travel through HP points and survival guides? So convenient!

And the records of Eminence? Very nice! Spent quite a while checking things off I did in the past.

Man, I'm really enjoying being able to finally be able to see the story-based content at my own lesiure without having to really search for parties that are on the same mission or to wait for people to get ready.

There have been a handful of free login periods, but at the same time, they're not very common either. Typically, they coincide with some other major event happening - the release of Rhapsodies, just prior to the end of PS2/360 support, this year's anniversary event, and so on.

Do you need to have Summoner unlocked to receive Alexander/Odin? Or can you do Waking the Colossus/The Rider Cometh, choose them as rewards, and unlock/level Summoner later?

I think you can do the quest, but the option to get Alex/Odin won't be there unless you have the job unlocked.

Like I said before in my quoted post, I started doing wotg missions, but instead of doing a few of them here or there, I decided to do make the most of my remaining trial period and take it even further: marathon the shit out of Wings of The Goddess from mission 2 (where I left off so I could get access to campaigning), all the way to the end. thankfully, It was a long weekend so I had free time. One of the biggest regrets I ever had during my time playing FFXI was not being able to play and complete the majority of the storylines the game had to offer (I finished Promathia and the nation missions for Bastok).

I had previously chosen Windurst as my nation during the campaign (i'm pretty sure it was because I wanted gear for my dnc at the time), so i decided to stick with it. Boy, I sure am glad I did. I really enjoyed the storyline that played out for me. And since I did nothing else but do mission and quests only related to the storyline, everything was still very fresh in my mind. It also didn't hurt that I had begun wearing the level 117 gear, and when packed with 5 trusts, made pretty short work of boss fights, allowing me to proceed through the story in a quick manner. The only real issue I had was with the very final fight (one of the enemies kept casting doom).

There were a bunch of times where I didn't think I'd be able to do it. For example; I had to go back to the present and complete a bunch of regular windy quests just to get a Rhinostery Certificate to give me access to Toraimarai Canal which would give me backdoor access to Inner Horototo Ruins for a 5 second cut-scene. There was an underground mission where you had to detonate bombs which quickly became irritating to do over and over again. I also had to stay up quite late into the night as I ran and warped my way around the different areas of the game.

Quick Travelling is such a godsend. I would not have been able to do it otherwise. I was also really glad I was really into campaign battles back when I played it regularly. I had a ton of allied points so I just used that to warp around the places I needed to get to fast. and thank you to whomever decided to bring the warp ring into the game. holy crap, I used the shit out of that ring. I also did luck out on a couple of occasions and had key items I needed for completing a quest already sitting in my inventory for years (bottled pixie and a testimony for one particular quest).

I wouldn't recommend doing what I did (there was a time-limit in my case), but I have no regrets about doing it. It was a great FF experience for me. :)

If there's another Free login period, I might try completing Aht Urghan next! haha

Guys i'm thinking of jumping back in, what the defacto NA server Slyph or Asura? Is there a there a guide on what I should do when I come back? I quit in 2009 so i'm sure everything has changed.

I don't think there's an accurate guide anymore, the one I used when I came back a year ago probably still tells people to do Delve. The quickest path to level 99 gear leapfrogs that stuff between RoE Kupons and NQ Ambuscade, at which point you can start earning the off-set items that push you into the general population of people who still PUG events.

Not sure about NA since I'm in Europe - ask here and pancakes will recommend Sylph, ask on /r/ffxi and they'll point you to Asura.

There are some returning guides like the one on the BG wiki, as well as some on /r/ffxi and its own wiki, not to mention the job-specific stuff on the ffxiah.com forums.

My personal recommendation is to look into the Records of Eminence objectives, especially the Tutorial section that now has an Intermediate component that can get you gear up to iLevel 119.

Also, work on the Rhapsodies missions along with the mission lines that precede it, there are lots of benefits for doing so.

As for whether it's worth it, of course this topic might be biased, but nowadays it's a lot easier to experience the story and setting of a FF game most have skipped in a relatively short amount of time, since aspects like levelling and travelling are way faster than they used to be.

June Update

Damn, just got into my mail that a Chocobo Digging update is coming this June, it's been a lot of years since I left (though I resubed a bit to see Adoulin two years ago) and I would really like to come back and ride my Green Chocobo one more time.

Hope I have some spare time this summer and try to do Adoulin / Rapsodies story so I can leave having finished all main Story Lines.
