What do you expect of Resident Evil 7?

You have to keep in mind that this criticism is from a vocal minority. As vocal as it might be, at the end of the day, it's an extreme minority that's a very small fraction of the actual fanbase. There's lots of franchise that get shit on online but still sell great from installment to installment.

The Revelation games were both co-op, PT was a free download, and HD remake, while selling good, isn't close to the sales of the action oriented co-op titles. Are we sure it's the only way to go?

Revelations wasn't a co-op oriented action game, PT started something regardless of it's free status, and the remake was a remake and it sold over a million. That's impressive for a re-release of a game. The action co-op titles were new mainline entry games so it's not really a fair comparison.

People can hate me all you want but man I always want Chris Redfield every time a new piece of Resident Evil media is coming up.

Dude has been one of my favorite game characters since getting

wtf, that figure doesn't even look like Chris. What company made that figure?

Looks kinda like the FMV intro version, I guess. But yeah, I remember these figures. I'd see them at KB Toys every time my family went to the mall, taking up shelf space that could have been used for Jurassic Park stuff, looking like shit and generally pissing me off. Ironically, (classic) RE ended up my favorite video game series a few years later. And I'd sacrifice body parts to have a complete set of those terrible-looking things now.

edit: yeah, ToyBiz. Man, everything they made was so bad. Even as a kid, I wanted higher quality sculpts over more articulation. Some of their Batman (Tim Burton era) vehicles were pretty cool tho.

Capcom doesn't have a conference, do they? Will the reveal be part of Sony's conference? Or...

They're going to try to do RE4 again is my guess (a scenario detached from the canon enough so as to remove expectations entirely, and a rethinking of the staples of the series while still quintessentially constituting Biohazard), while also taking the opportunity to re-establish what defines the franchise after the divisive reaction to RE6, so another action TPS isn't a safe bet anymore.

I'm going to expect the unexpected. And Becky.

At least they were attempting video game figures.
In all we got
Darkstalkers 3
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart 64
Marvel vs Capcom
Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 2
Tomb Raider
X-men vs Street Fighter
And Zelda OoT lines from them.

I hope the series goes back to its' survival horror roots, or is similar to RE4 in terms of a perfect mix of horror and action, but we'll see. I'd love to see Jake again in some way, and I'd also like to see Leon.

Yeah, this is what I expect and am hoping for too.

I expect a Resident Evil 6-II...but I hope for a Resident Evil 4-II which would instantly become my most wanted game 2016/2017.

I personally feel they scrapped Resident Evil 7 and then restarted. They've got to have made some big decisions especially after the Remake's success on PS4 and Xbox One.

I'm not sure how anyone still has faith in Capcom at this point.

They have some of the best IP and talent in the business, they're just broke and their executives are knuckleheads.

Plus, they do pull off some amazing stuff once in a while. I put Dragon's Dogma in the same league as Dark Souls and Skyrim, and Revelations 1 & 2 were both solid games. Street Fighter V has incredible mechanics, and Dead Rising is consistently good entry after entry.

Their awful business practices last gen (on-disk DLC, among other nonsense), combined with big budget disasters like RE6 and expensive vaporware like Deep Down and it's yet unused Panta Rhei engine, have left them in a position where they finally have some idea about the paths they should be taking with their top IPs, but no longer have the finances to put those ideas together in a timely manner.

LOL come on.
Capcom touched up a 14 year old classic that was exclusive to the 3rd place console and released it at half price,
it literally says nothing about an audience.

Not to mention sadly 4, 5 and 6 probably sold 4x better than REmake even with the REmaster.

If they scrapped RE7 at any point, then it'd probably be because they weren't happy with the game in its own right. There's no doubt that REmake's success influenced RE2make getting greenlit, but 1m sales probably isn't enough to influence a late change for a major project like RE7.

And on top of that, it feels like Capcom's RE-scrapping days are behind them without Mikami, since he was always the one to sweet-talk management into letting him do it.

That said, I'm pretty confident RE7 will be a very horror-centric title all the same, and will have been for a long time.

I expect it to be more scaled back compared to RE6 and also 5 in a lot of ways. It won't be CoD/Gears-style blockbuster action. Instead it will be more survival-focused. Not in the survival horror sense but in the more thematic sense, with influences from Tomb Raider 2013 and The Last of Us. The setting will be restricted to one seemingly continuous location, something like a city or an island. Somewhat like RE4, but bigger in a geographical sense.
It will still have co-op, but there will be two characters only. It will probably feature a previous protagonist as one of the main characters, likely Leon or Jill, and the secondary protagonist will be completely new like previous games.
As for the gameplay, I expect it will have a different set of mechanics and will probably not be the extension of RE6s combat some are hoping for. RE isn't like DMC, and thus I don't expect them to give RE6 and 7 the same kind of consideration.

Faith in their development teams or the company as a whole?

They have some of the best IP and talent in the business, they're just broke and their executives are knuckleheads.

They're not broke, though. They were poorly off a couple of years ago, but they're doing better now. Their market cap is about 150% more than it was two years ago, and they're spending more on R&D than they have in years.

This isn't true. RE6 has the worst MetaCritic scores of any mainline entry, its only competition being the remasters of 0 and Code Veronica. There was a backlash, and not just amongst hardcore fans. Consider how maligned DMC4 became during DmC's development, but then extend that to fans as well.

My expectations are low and I'm going to keep them there. Hearing Capcom mention TLOU as if they might be taking inspiration from it spells trouble, they just can't stop trying to mimic other devs with totally different skillsets.

Hell, even Mikami himself couldn't totally recapture the magic with The Evil Within.
Considering that The Last of Us has a lot of elements reminiscent of Resident Evil 4, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Capcom approach the next entry in a similar fashion. I can't imagine the story being as good, but I feel like there's a lot there they can do with that style of gameplay

Tears in the rain
A darker slower game, that mixes RE4 style controls and vast breadth of environments but uses more resource management and fear. I want Ada to star, she's long overdue to appear in something with more heft to it, in terms of her story. Could serve as a sort of reboot too. She's sent off to infiltrate X place, and uncovers a brand new virus or whatever. Something really dark and scary.

Also save rooms. With haunting, yet soothing music.

zombies, more puzzles and a slower pace would be great. I enjoyed RE5 via coop, and 6 was okay, but getting back to survival horror would be excellent

What I want? Survival horror. Item management, limited resources, fear of direct confrontations.

What I'm expecting? Charging at zombies to suplex them.

At this point I don't think even Capcom knows the answer to this question.

I fully expect them to try another "let's try and please everyone" game and fail like they did with RE6.

Less punching and kicking monsters to save ammo and more "I don't want to get too close to that."

More graphic gibbing of human and infected bodies so you can see zombies tearing people apart and weapons have more punch.

Aya is a plot device in a red dress. She only works as a "Who's side is she on!?" manipulator on the side of the protagonists adventures.

I expect to be disappointed, because one of the two following reasons.

1. Will play like Re6, too much like Re6.
2. Will not be on NX

A soft reboot.

RE5 gave nice closure to the whole over-arcing story. RE6 showed just what a mess it had become.

Go back to (relatively speaking) small-scale horror in 1 location with only a handful of characters.

-No god damned Leon or Chris.
-more emphasis on zombies and actually creepy creatures rather than derplords who have caterpillars exploding out of their heads. I fucking swear, if I see one character whose head explodes into something else after they die.
-Darker, more horrific environments.
-No dumbass superhuman melee, QTE bullshit. I don't want piledrivers, suplexes, stone cold stunners, boulder punching.. I don't want to play Resident Evil: Captain America.
-Pare the story back, I don't even care if they do a reboot; the plot went off the rails around Code Veronica.
-KEEP CLAIRE AND JILL!!!!

One thing I admired about Resident Evil was its tenacity to keep its cast around for so long.. I will always love them, but I'd like to see them in a coherent story. One that is reminiscent of the earlier games with a little more maturity. The games have two classic enemies: Wesker and Umbrella. I don't give a shit about all of the other RescuePharmaTerraSaveBioNeo organizations that cropped up later. If they have to reboot the story to do it, fine..

Nothing. The mainline Resident Evils haven't been great since 3 (for me).

I know 4 is the beloved masterpiece, but it's really over rated (in my mind anyways). 5 was ok, and 6 is lul territory. I'm not expecting anything.
