Days Gone (Sony Bend, UE4) - E3 2016 Gameplay Walkthrough

On the one hand I can see how similar it might seem to TLOU; on the other hand, I can really see the unique cues they're adding.

The whole fluid motion of the horde of zombies is especially interesting. I can't wait to see how it's incorporated into gameplay and the world.

Optimistic.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Ok. Geoff is now interviewing the devs and it is confirmed to be SANDBOX AND OPEN WORLD!! So the entire sequence is NOT scripted (maybe except for that other human)

Oh and there releasing another "longer" demo later!

Actually it being still in early dev, AND it being a Sandbox tells me that demo was scripted as fuck.

Come on now.. the zombies followed in perfect time to get to the perfect spot to die. Spilling from the train was cool.. then after that.. yeah.. you'd just fucking run.. you wouldn't turn around to shoot.. if you did that you'd die.

Just watched sony bend talking about this game in Geoff youtube show.

Keys points I got from the video:
* Game is heavily story focused single player only Action/Adventure survival game experience like of Last of Us in some ways
* Bike (focuses on bike culture) is really important in the game and he never leaves which is crafted and built by the player
* Set in Pacific High desert harsh volcanic place with caves etc,,
* Open world sandbox style game that can be fully explorable
* Has Dynamic day/night cycle and weather system
* Has RPG (crafting) elements and changes gameplay based on that, so player needs to understand the tools and environment
* World is dangerous compared to other zombie games out there as they say zombies try to kill everything that moves especially at night
* Game has been in development for 3+ years, but still its in early development as they just only finished core mechanics/ideas of the game and not ready yet

Everything sounds great to me.

Very promissing.

They just said they've been working on it for 3 and a half years. Sooo...
what does that mean? I’m not saying they are copying TLOU or anything but bend is an inside studio, and they have to know about most other WWS projects I’m assuming. If Narrative and a focus on loss/family and bonding between a daughter and fighter in a post zombie world was the theme of a big AAA in-house Sony game, then what is this? Another one?

I’m saying what’s the main sticking point for this getting the green light? It has to be different than just telling a great story in a post zombie world. I would imagine it to be anyway, so ND did it already.

Insane For Sony
Trailer left me unsure, but the actual gameplay of this looked fantastic. Next to God of War and Spiderman it was a standout from the conference.

Why make a zombie shooter in 2016 with no multiplayer?

My assumption is that Sony wanted their own open-world zombie game given their popularity and prevalence on other platforms. Games like DayZ, H1Z1, Dead Rising, and State of Decay are games people really dig and none of which are on PS4.

You mean, like every fucking zombie game since Dead Rising released in 2006?

Saw the trailer and thought it looked like TLOU. Then watched the gameplay video and got legit chills when the horde rushed the player. Like I don't feel tension like that ever watching or playing games. Consider me excited for this.

i dont understand the hate its getting, i think it looks amazing.

TLoU X World War Z was my first reaction the the demo.

Sounds like its a while away but man it looks sweet.

feel bad for the game because most things 3rd person and including "zombies" is gonna be put up against TLOU.

gotta say "infinite ammo" has to be a no no, though i'm assuming that was only for the e3 showcase, and i didn't like how he managed to run right through the horde unharmed, they gotta work on that, though that could've been "easy" mode or something. will still keep an eye out.

I liked the trailer they showed and the fact that's open world. But I agree with some others that the demo wasn't really appropriate to end on or entertaining.

I'd like to know what game seems to represent a horde of zombies as well as this game seams to. If one complaint I have about zombie games is that many of them don't really to seem to emphasize the threat that the zombies as a horde really are. Just shooting into the masses blindly doesn't do much of anything. I liked that he was basically forced to lead the horde through all manner of check points. For a demo I think its got a shit ton of potential if they can keep building the gameplay around things like filtering the horde where you need.

Agreed. Even though it was a ridiculous amount of zombies they seemed menacing and not like fodder. Turn the easy mode and unlimited ammo off and I imagine it will be VERY intense.

This this the second most disappointing thing in this great conference after the Crash troll

guy tries to kill someone
fast zombies army are after him
and shoots them countless times obviously it's not helping
he is surrounded

the end.

didn't feel it at all.

the trailer was great though unlike the demo.

Isn't Days Gone kind of a derivative title for a derivative game? Just copying Dayz and adding a word? It is like if someone made a sci-fi game called Halo Worlds.

Other way around for me. I loved the demo. Looks awesome.

My fave game from e3 so far. An open world in a beautiful rural setting riding a dirtbike around with weighty, satisfying physics. Yes.

This game seems terrifying, I love zombie games but I have bad anxiety and just watching the gameplay demo had me freaked out at some points hahaha. Might just watch a just play of it as it looks great

So I'm not the only one. I was legit nervous watching someone else play.

So relieved it is a single player game. Some people(and me( thought it would be something like an online multiplayer game.

Really good stuff

We will see more.
If you are at E3 stop by the PlayStation booth to get a look at our extended gameplay demo, where in addition to showing off Deacon’s encounter with the Horde, we offer a glimpse of our brutal sandbox combat: crafting, traps and alternate paths, which only scratches the surface of how the demo can be played in multiple ways.

For those of you who can’t make it to E3, don’t worry: in the next couple of days we’ll be uploading our gameplay video, so be sure and keep an eye out for that. We’ll be talking more about the world of Days Gone in the coming months, so hang on tight and get ready to ride the broken road. Just like Deacon, our ride is only beginning.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
So I'm not the only one. I was legit nervous watching someone else play.

I was in one of the theaters and people were pretty amped once the zombies showed up and it got pretty tense until the collective sigh once the last of the zombies were finished off. Pretty cool and then everyone started laughing and hooting when the camera zoomed out and the guy was even more screwed than before.

There should be more tampons in gaming

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm but you guys trying to make the game sound generic just sound like a derivative hivemind yourselves. Seems you guys will find anything to attack the game for just to be a part of something. Days Gone...By would've been better but the title is still nice.

Looks awesome. Yeah it has a little TLoU feel, but why should that bother anyone? It's not like they're the same games by any means. The sheer size of the hoard tells you that, before we even knew it was open world sandbox.

Also, bikers are as under utilized as almost anything else in gaming, I'm happy for something a little different. I'm tired of zombies, but giant dynamic hoards are new.

While the graphics are very good, the game concept feels old already. Zombies are boring, and running ones are not new either.

Pretty safe bet Neo and associated tech demos were intended to be the closer, but Scorpio spooked them bad. Show ended abruptly and was much shorter than usual. Would you want to announce a new console half as powerful in back to back conferences? Especially when doing the exact opposite is widely credited with a majority of PS4's success.

Not really. It is actually blatantly false.

Cognitive Dissonance, Distilled
It's so odd that this game exists. I feel like Sony had this base covered. Does their catalog really need yet another zombie game?

they had already stated neo was not gonna be at e3

This sounds kind of nuts, especially since they're not using their own engine and their last project was what, Uncharted Vita? Maybe Ubisoft shitting out all these open world games so fast is giving false me impressions...

I'm not a zombie fan, but it's at least nice to see they weren't slow as fuck, impressive visuals to boot.

What open world Zombie games are exclusive to PS4? What zombie game has child zombies? What other games have hordes of enemies of this magnitude? How about Biker games?

Seriously, this game looks so good, and impressive to boot. Just because it's got zombies in it does not make it generic.

This is my feeling about it and it's SP. I think with more information, those who are on the fence can hear more and those who clearly have their minds made up should just pass. It's unfair at this stage to really push off the game without knowing more. It's not like TLOU which is a linear apocalyptic survival game.

I know people love to toss around the word "generic" and "bland" and complaining about zombies games in general, but how many zombies games can you think of where they actually attack you in a large group?

Curious to see the other gameplay footage they're showing this week. Optional co-op would be pretty amazing for this game.

How? Fodder is exactly what they seemed like. He blindly aimed and mowed them down. They did from one shot every time no matter where they were shot.
