God Of War E3 2016 trailer gameplay, not open world, all Kratos, 2017

The child clearly has a more important role to play. Look at the end of the trailer where they are staring off into a coming storm and Kratos says, "Now, you are ready."

After the section with the deer we'll get to play as the kid. Some time later Tyr (nordic god of war) will show up and kill kratos, the kid will try to help with his bow but fail. As an adult the kid will hunt down tyr and become the new God of war himself.

Just what I think will happen.

didn't the balrog say the kratos-child relation was inspired by himself getting a son? What kind of madness would it be to kill the ingame child off if that's the case lol
If I were a betting man, I would go with the whole kidnapping scenario. Like the boy has special powers like Ciri from The Witcher and Odin wants the boy for himself.

I just dont see the boy being a companion for the whole game. There has to be some reason Kratos goes after the Norse gods. And I dont believe Barlog is going to kill Kratos off before very very late in the game.

Really hope they don't do that, it would be the most boring thing ever.

I hope this is a story that has nothing to do with revenge and everything to do with controlling ones rage.

What if thats the point though? Him learning that hes making the exact same mistakes as last time and how it ultimately leads to nothing. It could end with him sparring Thor or something.

Someone probably already noticed it but when he yells at the kid for missing, his Spartan Rage started filling up and decreased when he took a breath to calm himself. So the rage might have story implications further than "Activate ultra-god mode".

Today morning I was shocked to see God of War trending in Twitter top 10 with approx 100,000 tweets. Never saw any video game trending in top 10 before.

I'm pretty sure what we were shown is the tutorial section of the game. The actual main character will be the child, but Kratos acts as the tutor for both the child and the individual playing the game.

I suspected this too when the child shot the bow and appeared to gain +50 bow xp. I'm sure others suspected the same.

The point would be not to play GoW 1 to 3 all over again lol.

We already did the revenge thing, lets do something different this time around lol

But don't get me wrong, I never played GoW for the story, so I wouldn't mind if the story is boring, but I would be happier if the story this time serves as more than just an excuse to slice things up hehe.

I dont get why they would show the XP gaining for the kid and nothing for Kratos. No obsorbing little orbs or anything. I swear its bait. What skill would +tracking give you? Seems suspicious.

I think what might help is gaining another primary weapon to dual wield. A fire axe or even Thors hammer. That way combat can pick up and you can still toss the axe without being stuck with fists

If one were to follow this story to its logical conclusion, then Kratos, a now long retired god, living in a world alien to him, would pass on his skills as a warrior to his adopted child (no way is that kid biologically related to him), and pass away. Likely in sacrifice, or a subtle more humbling way. Passing on the torch to a new god of war.

I think they should have been a bit more creative with the name, maybe something corny like "The God of War". That could have been a bit subtle, and maybe even thematically relevant.

Looks amazing. Combat looks a bit rough and not as good as the Blades of Chaos or Athena. I am interested in the story. Who saved him from that cliff he was bleeding on? Why is the world so calm? Where is Athena? Who is this kids mother?

This guy looks old and roughed up. He has been through a lot and that previous life and mythology has come and gone. It is a new world.

Just gonna say it again:

I hope Mjolnir is a usable weapon in the game. That would be great. I want to be able to bash Odins face with it.

Your could upgrade your kid so he has new abilities in and out of combat. So you fight as Kratos but your son can do new things that can set up combos for you like hitting enemies with stun arrows and shit.

Well I hope the kid at least grows up a bit so at least a few chapter in he is capable of more than hitting me in the shoulder with an arrow.

I just dont want a whinny kid following me all game like that kid from The Road.. "papa! PAPA!"

But I do definitely see it goig that way with the way the kid hit the troll with a stun arrow.

-Walking through ruins with kid
-Its whats left of Olympus
-Kid learns about what Kratos did

How does he react? Or better yet, what if in this narrative the kid becomes the rage fueled warrior who hates his father?

I hope Kratos will be left alone for the majority of the game. I doubt they will kill the kid, but it has to be taken away.

Other than this I'm blown away even though I love the old formula.

I want to see more combat. Will there be a jump button? Enemy launching?

The bit during the troll fight where he tosses the axe and during the next attack retrieves it in the air for another hit, is it scripted? I couldn't tell...

I think it is the most liked (thumbs up) E3 trailer this year. People sure digged it.

Not entirely scripted. I believe the player aimed the axe there and the rest played out.

And I rewatched it again. It definitely looks like the QTE prompts are disabled but that they are still there for the troll when Kratos is on his face.

They better not shy away from over the top violence either. I want to see Kratos ripping heads off of things like Helios in GOW3. The camera kinda cut away when he went the axe on that trolls face. Not cool.

What I want is for Kratos to be forced to kill the Norse gods and bring about Ragnarok, not because he wants to or revenge but bc it's necessary in some way because htye have become rotten.

Or maybe not. Still thinking on it

Honestly, anything would be better than another revenge story.
