They just confirmed in an interview that the game will have no towns. They clarified that it's a Hyrule in ruins and they took direct inspiration from the world of the NES LOZ. They did confirm that there will be a handful of stray NPCs throughout the world but no towns or villages in the traditional sense. Also, they claimed that link will not have any kind of partner and will be exploring alone for the entire game.
oh please. there's nothing game changing about the interaction with the wolf amiibo. and considering it's wolf link as a companion character, I don't see this having been made if it weren't for the amiibo, anyway.
The 4 dungeons thing isn't at all confirmed is it?So let me get this straight;
-No town?
-No partner?
-Has voice acting
-Game is basically collecting overworld items.
-Breakable weapons.
-More focus on exploration in the overworld.
-only 4 dungeons
-No overworld theme.
Yeah I might end up passing on this game as the stuff that I play Zelda for is missing.
How disappointing. This really does look like open world circa 2008. Not impressive. I wonder if Nintendo knows how far behind they've fallen in certain types of game development.
Well people wanted the game to be Super Exploration like NES Zelda...
...now they complain that there ain't towns...like NES Zelda.
If this setting is what I suspect it to be, which is Wind Waker after the water levels decrease, then it'll be even more post apocalyptic than WW. No towns makes sense.
The overworld theme was confirmed but not the 4 dungeons.when was this confirmed?
Lr stylistic choice.Or for budgetary reasons.
People have asked Nintendo for years to go back to the original formula, now that they are doing precisely that, people are still complaining. I know its probably not the same people
So this game is basically Metroid
when was this confirmed?
So, this started three hours ago right, would anybody care to give a quick recap of what has been showed during those three hours, and if there is something in particular i should check out?
I feel like with the no towns aspect, they have the opportunity to have ruined villages scattered around where you can pick up clues to what happened to the world.

Uh... Am I the only one that is incredibly underwhelmed by what has been shown so far? not only does it look like a GameCube game, it seems to have the gameplay of a 5+ year old game to boot. Why are we supposed to be impressed by an incredibly sparse open world, ultra simplistic crafting systems that have been present in other games for literally decades, the same old combat, simplistic world interactions and a stealth meter that wouldn't have been very impressive in Wind Waker let alone a Wii U/NX game...
Technically the game also looks extremely poor with horrible low rest textures, barely any geometry, last gen animations, barely any lighting effects to speak of and what looks to be a dire frame rate... I can only hope these will massively improve over time and on the NX, although considering the amount of time this has been in gestation I find it hard to see it as anything other than a bad sign generally.
I don't doubt it will be a Good Game(tm) but I can't help but feel this is just no where near good enough for greatness and I really can't believe this is their entire E3..
lmao no towns.
One step forward and two step back as always. Never change Nintendo.
Certainly feels as though players are thrown to the wolves as it were, and I like that direction.Having random NPCs and survivors is pretty cool. Souls-ish.
Game has a seriously bleak backing and the violence shown as Link plays is startling. Very survivalist and brutal behind a Nintendo veneer.
Hey, you know what other large world game also "doesn't have towns"?
Dark Souls. So maybe don't jump the gun so fast there peeps.
but you made this post anyway....
The Sheikah Slate is a mysterious new item that you get right away at the start of the game. A mysterious female voice over beckons Link to open his eyes. Our hero has been asleep for 100 years, a callback to Links previous adventures (Aonuma told us some conventions dont change) but he wakes up to some dire circumstances: the world has been ravaged in the time Links been asleep by Calamity Ganon, a fog-like beast that creates a dark mist around what looks like Hyrule Castle. The voice tells Link if this calamity gains enough power, he could bring the world to an end. You wake up bleary-eyed, get the Sheikah Slate, grab some worn-down clothes from the next room, and youre off on the adventure.
Of course we will.I hope we find out why there aren't any owns if any.
Sigh, no town does not mean that there are not going to be memorable characters or other races.

I'm hoping there are more real dungeons than that. A solid 8 or 9 would be nice.
If it is only 4, that will seem like it's a imbalanced on the side of just getting overworld/shrines.
I'm very worried if this is Nintendos idea of pulling out all the stops and creating a genre-defining classic.
Remember Ocarina? And Metroid Prime? They completely changed gaming and pushed their respective genres forward across all platforms. this feels like playing catchup... Playing catchup in 2010 that is. It's 2016, I feel like I'm going back in time by a decade when I watch this footage
I think Nintendo fans should be very worried that this kind of thing is just no where near enough to bring back fans who left since the Wii, let alone create new ones in a world where 14 year olds are playing Souls and Witcher,

Yeah, I mean, I generally like what they are doing, but I Reggie's talk about revolutionizing the game industry with this game is incredibly over the top. If anything, it is Nintendo slowly catching up with the competition. That can tend to happen when you put your blinders on and 'refuse to compete.'

Aaaand here we go.
People have asked Nintendo for years to go back to the original formula, now that they are doing precisely that, people are still complaining. I know its probably not the same people, but this just shows that Nintendo really is doomed if they do, doomed if they dont with this franchise. I for one trust Nintendo to make another classic here!
I hope we find out why there aren't any owns if any.
Why do games have to have predefined features? Why can't a game have an identity of its own?
Some Plot Info:
