Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

This magnet thing is basically the same than the gravity gun from Half Life, isn't it? I never played Half Life

If this setting is what I suspect it to be, which is Wind Waker after the water levels decrease, then it'll be even more post apocalyptic than WW. No towns makes sense.

They just confirmed in an interview that the game will have no towns. They clarified that it's a Hyrule in ruins and they took direct inspiration from the world of the NES LOZ. They did confirm that there will be a handful of stray NPCs throughout the world but no towns or villages in the traditional sense. Also, they claimed that link will not have any kind of partner and will be exploring alone for the entire game.

Baller.

Zelda Prime, come to me.

The booth looks amazing. Hope we get a closer tour a bit further into the show. Can't wait to see what Nintendo do at Universal Studios Japan in future. The models at the booth remind me of the USJ Monster Hunter The Real exhibits.

oh please. there's nothing game changing about the interaction with the wolf amiibo. and considering it's wolf link as a companion character, I don't see this having been made if it weren't for the amiibo, anyway.

Apart from wrecking enemies and hunting boars? And, you know, having a pet wolf?

People have asked Nintendo for years to go back to the original formula, now that they are doing precisely that, people are still complaining. I know its probably not the same people, but this just shows that Nintendo really is doomed if they do, doomed if they dont with this franchise. I for one trust Nintendo to make another classic here!

I feel like with the no towns aspect, they have the opportunity to have ruined villages scattered around where you can pick up clues to what happened to the world.

So let me get this straight;

-No town?
-No partner?
-Has voice acting
-Game is basically collecting overworld items.
-Breakable weapons.
-More focus on exploration in the overworld.
-only 4 dungeons
-No overworld theme.

Yeah I might end up passing on this game as the stuff that I play Zelda for is missing.
The 4 dungeons thing isn't at all confirmed is it?

I'm hoping there are more real dungeons than that. A solid 8 or 9 would be nice.

If it is only 4, that will seem like it's a imbalanced on the side of just getting overworld/shrines.

How disappointing. This really does look like open world circa 2008. Not impressive. I wonder if Nintendo knows how far behind they've fallen in certain types of game development.

Yeah, I mean, I generally like what they are doing, but I Reggie's talk about revolutionizing the game industry with this game is incredibly over the top. If anything, it is Nintendo slowly catching up with the competition. That can tend to happen when you put your blinders on and 'refuse to compete.'

Well people wanted the game to be Super Exploration like NES Zelda...

...now they complain that there ain't towns...like NES Zelda.

Shocking news: new console Zelda game is highly divisive among Zelda fans like every single other console Zelda games since Majora's Mask, more at 11.

i was thinking, since in wind waker it is told that the legendary hero never came back, maybe is this link that was sleep

Sigh, no town does not mean that there are not going to be memorable characters or other races.

They really want to sell that peacefull and colorfull yet bleak and desolate angle which will be accentuated when you encounter other characters after long stretches of time.

Or for budgetary reasons.
Lr stylistic choice.

Hey, you know what other large world game also "doesn't have towns"?

Dark Souls. So maybe don't jump the gun so fast there peeps.

So, this started three hours ago right, would anybody care to give a quick recap of what has been showed during those three hours, and if there is something in particular i should check out?

Quoting myself to maybe get an answer to this.

ugh, keeps getting worse. I really hope this zelda has the best dungeons.

Uh... Am I the only one that is incredibly underwhelmed by what has been shown so far? :( not only does it look like a GameCube game, it seems to have the gameplay of a 5+ year old game to boot. Why are we supposed to be impressed by an incredibly sparse open world, ultra simplistic crafting systems that have been present in other games for literally decades, the same old combat, simplistic world interactions and a stealth meter that wouldn't have been very impressive in Wind Waker let alone a Wii U/NX game...

Technically the game also looks extremely poor with horrible low rest textures, barely any geometry, last gen animations, barely any lighting effects to speak of and what looks to be a dire frame rate... I can only hope these will massively improve over time and on the NX, although considering the amount of time this has been in gestation I find it hard to see it as anything other than a bad sign generally.

I don't doubt it will be a Good Game(tm) but I can't help but feel this is just no where near good enough for greatness and I really can't believe this is their entire E3..

Bruh have you looked at a gamecube game lately

You seem to be forgetting the fact that it is, in fact, a game running on last gen hardware. And considering the limitations of the Wii U I think it looks great.

I mean jesus, just compare the visuals of this game to Skyward Sword. It's no contest.

Having random NPCs and survivors is pretty cool. Souls-ish.

Game has a seriously bleak backing and the violence shown as Link plays is startling. Very survivalist and brutal behind a Nintendo veneer.
Certainly feels as though players are thrown to the wolves as it were, and I like that direction.
What I don't understand is how so many wanted certain changes, we got most of what we wanted it seems, and it still isn't good enough!?
It's a little disheartening.

No towns? lol
You could still have a town or some form of town in a world in ruins. so I don't buy that justification/excuse.

Some Plot Info:

The Sheikah Slate is a mysterious new item that you get right away at the start of the game. A mysterious female voice over beckons Link to “open his eyes.” Our hero has been asleep for 100 years, a callback to Link’s previous adventures (Aonuma told us some conventions don’t change) but he wakes up to some dire circumstances: the world has been ravaged in the time Link’s been asleep by Calamity Ganon, a fog-like beast that creates a dark mist around what looks like Hyrule Castle. The voice tells Link if this calamity gains enough power, he could bring the world to an end. You wake up bleary-eyed, get the Sheikah Slate, grab some worn-down clothes from the next room, and you’re off on the adventure.

Not confirmed but because the shrines were specifically stated to have 100 of them it's extrapolated from that there are 4 main dungeons. This is because the same rumor that said there are 100 mini-dungeons said there would be 4 main dungeons. Would seem likely it'll be true but it's not been officially stated by Nintendo.

I'm very worried if this is Nintendos idea of pulling out all the stops and creating a genre-defining classic.

Remember Ocarina? And Metroid Prime? They completely changed gaming and pushed their respective genres forward across all platforms. this feels like playing catchup... Playing catchup in 2010 that is. It's 2016, I feel like I'm going back in time by a decade when I watch this footage :(

I think Nintendo fans should be very worried that this kind of thing is just no where near enough to bring back fans who left since the Wii, let alone create new ones in a world where 14 year olds are playing Souls and Witcher,

If what they have to compete with is games like Days Gone, Nintendo fans are just fine.

Maybe wait until we've seen more than 1% of the gameworld before deciding what it is or isn't.

Why would Nintendo fans give a shit how many other people are enjoying a game they enjoy or how well a corporation performs? Not everyone is invested in fanboy wars.

I dont recall people ever saying "Please remove the towns !!! "

I'm gonna have to see receipts of the 4 dungeon thing before I start taking it seriously. "I heard a rumor" is basically tales from my ass Zelda Edition.
