Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

Hm I like it, but there are some things that I don't "like".
- the annoying sound when you pick-up something (really annoying after the 5th time...)
- some regions are really empty (the snow environment ) I don't know if it's international(yes, snow location I get it, but still...) or they are still filling it
- the "time" on the mini-map... I don't know. Why not a wandering sun/moon around the mini-map?
- the menus.

What the fuck. It actually looked like this? This is crazy. Talking about a huge downgrade. And i remember how Nintendo back then said it was all on Wii U. Should have known Wii U was never gonna do that. I'm sure the game will be enjoyable, but i can't deny being very disappointed with how it looks.

It is exactly the same with different lighting. Some of you are insane.

Breath of The Wild still feels like a weird title to me. I still think of someone have bad breath when the name comes up. Maybe something like "Glades of the Wild" or something along that line. Ehhh it may just be my personal biases.
When I think of "breath," I think of breathing. Air. Life.

Did anyone summarize what we learned about the game today in a post?

it's going to be the biggest step forward in the franchise since Oot

-not only does it deepen core features of the franchise like puzzles in 100+ shrines besides the normal dungeons, it will have many interesting new abilities like the magnesius that works as a puzzle solvinge device as well as a gravity gun kind of weapon
-it will have many different weapons with different movesets, including dropped skeleton arms
-you can cook and the food will give temporary buffs like extra health
-you can get tons if items, probably used for crafting. including chopping trees
-theres tons of exploring, including a new free climbing feature that might be a core ability in the game. exploring seems to be super rewarding with chests all over the place. you can also glide and there is the horse.
-there is also a stealth feature, you see the sound you make and enemies become alerted and look for you, you can also distract them and have many other opportunities to tackle camps of enemies. like setting a fire, sniping or using explosives like the remote bombs.
-you can also summon a wolf companion with the twilight HD amiibo

honestly, I was disappointed by the initial trailer, but the treehouse gameplay convinced me that this game is the next big thing. and we haven't even seen anything of the story or epic moments, yet.

You're forgetting that there are 3 timelines for it to be set in. Wind Waker timeline is the least likely because this game would need to be set after OoT due to the Koroks and before Wind Waker since old Hyrule is lost forever.

Zelda U is set in the original Hyrule. Old man says this is the birthplace of Hyrule and the Temple of Time is here, but it's far away from where it should be according to SS and OoT.

This game is most likely in the Twilight Princess timeline or ALttP timeline.

I am saying this is Old Hyrule after the Flood waters have receded.

Did anyone take nots of the Mushrooms? They all seem to have different effects: Healing, Boosting Stamina, Increasing Speed, Raising Temperature.

I'm generally happy with the game. I'm typically not one to do 'sand box' stuff and want a more linear experience, but I make an exception from time to time.

Hope other areas have or the real game have more varied and challenging enemies. More in a pack too. That's my only real complaint, but I'm sure it is that way cos of the demo.

There's voice acting at the beginning of the demo and Aonuma said there will be more from major characters throughout the game, but it doesn't look like all NPCs are voiced.

Thanks. I'd like a Zelda game with more voice acting.

I see a lot of conceptual appeal to what's going on, but the more that's shown the more concerns it raises. Wind Waker's approach to exploration allowed for a greater degree of randomness to the exploration, because the sea that filled the space between the islands could have all sorts of oddities pop up at any time, and then the islands themselves served as fixed landmarks that could be combed over. There was a very distinct loop where the player would see islands on the horizon and feel this draw towards them to discover what was there. I don't really get the same vibe from what's been shown here.

Additionally, many of the new mechanics simply have me wary. The magnet stuff feels reminiscent of the physics based stuff from Half-Life 2, which skirted by on how technically impressive it was at the time. But that stuff really has not aged well, with most of the puzzles feeling rudimentary, and combat encounters often breaking around these tools being abused. It doesn't help that powerful tools exist that aren't encumbered by the durability limits weapons have. The reusable bombs negated most of the open world encounters into almost nothing.

There are loads of collection/inventory mechanics, but what does it really build towards? Modern games that do indulge these concepts carry crafting systems, cooking systems, harsher survival elements, or multiplayer elements. As is, the loot elements here just seem too simplistic while still requiring needless management.

Not really picking up a real desire to wander around this open world either. The locations don't really feel like they have a history or story to tell, and the interactions with this element of nature Nintendo is trying to push just don't seem complex enough to be interesting for very long. There aren't enough pieces or types of AI interacting with one another to really create an environment that feels organic. If the enemy placements were less static or they had behaviors that moved beyond just sleeping around camp that'd go a long way, but this isn't that kind of game.

I agree with a lot of what you have said. I feel like Nintendo, obviously, doesn't have a good handle on all of the mechanics and systems they've decided to shove into a single game, since they have no experience with any of them. Inventory management for starters looks like a pain already. And what's the point of storing enemy weapons away when they break after a couple of hits? For a lack of a better word, it's a stupid idea. Enemy weapons should be a one-time use only if they're going to make them so feeble. Most game design decisions shown feel randomly included.

And it's such a barren, nondescript world. Earlier on the stream they took a while getting to a snow mountain, and there was literally nothing there, and encountered only two enemies along the way. Either this game is screwed up or it's not demoing well. At least it isn't for me.

But I thought this game was boring and old

bruh its just grass on fire, far cry 2 was doin that in 2008 lololololderp

why does zelda get a pass for doing things other games were doing ten years ago gawd. actin like rock physics and burning grass are new shit jeez, resident evil 5 had all that and that game came out in 2004

I'm assuming that story beats or cutscenes are going to get the voice acting treatment, but when you encounter someone in the world you get the text bubble.

I don't understand what's happening.

It has a lot of things I don't want in a Zelda game: weapons and gear that wear out, looting and crafting, a jump button, supposedly only 4 dungeons, no towns or villages. That's really a lot of unpleasant features.

But I like what I see: the shrines, the gameplay mechanics, the look and I reaaaally want to play it quick.

Trailer did nothing for me, but I'm not the target audience for this game (Zelda fans). The music was amazing, and the cel shaded character and enemy models are really slick, but the background textures really expose how dated the WiiU hardware has become relative to the realistic open-world look they're going for.

Open world titles have never interested me, and this one seems to be no different. The world just looks like a whole lot trees and time consuming mountains to scale. With that said, the climbing mechanic looks like it works well, which more games could really use, so that's nice.

As much as I loved the designs, the shading and the music, I found the trailer depressingly overwhelming. This looks barren as hell and the IQ is awful.

Honestly, I'm starting to think that this might actually be a remake/reimagining of Zelda 1, albeit with a more fleshed-out story.

At the very least, it definitely seems to be set in either the Downfall or Child Timeline and in a very distant future. It is great to see the Koroks from the Adult timeline pop up in here though!

yeah i mean nintendo bubble lol

blu

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
The games somewhat lacklustre graphical look also makes me think the NX is going to be a hybrid with the ARM chips speculated a while ago.
There are a few stupid posts in this thread, but P&B takes the cake, hands down.

4 dungeons - rumor (although credible)
No towns/villages - misinformation
