Listen here, kiddo. Kojima wants to make the best game possible that he can. No other company was going to give him all of the resources he needs. Now if you really think that Microsoft would have gave him this sort of freedom on a smaller install base than Sony, you're mistaken. Unless you really think spending 5 years of dev time to only cater to a small number of core fans is a good idea.

the fuck are you even saying man, always going off like crazy whenever ms is mentioned

cool down a bit

It sounds like for his future projects it might be multiplatform but i guess anything can happen. Sony could eventually offer him and his team to fully join them.

I can already see it

<<Hello? Oh, Andrew, hi! How is my game's development proceeding? What game? Oh, right, THAT game...>>

This is what I really appreciate about Sony on the gaming front -- they seem willing to take big creative risks and to give developers the benefit of the doubt. Excited to see what Kojima can deliver with this kind of creative freedom.

kiddo? Time of the month for you? Look like you getting all excited over nothing, son. I think you need to untangle those knickers.

HAHAH a typical misogynist response from an anonymous poster to another anonymous poster on a gaming forum.

I'm going off like crazy when I say that the One is inferior to the PS4 for this game?

---

OT since I'm not going to take this ban-bait.

Death Stranding is going to shine on the PS4 and Kojima knows that which is why he made the right choice in this partnership.

Am I the only one who hates the actual name of this title? It doesn't sound welcoming at all or something that could be franchise worthy. Long time Kojima fan too.

It makes more sense than the seemingly random collection of words that was Metal Gear Solid.

He was inspired by the Last Guardian. Finally he can take 12 years to work on his next game and no one will complain!

I would actually love to hear the pitch for his game. That trailer was weird as shit. What is this game even about?

I hope he does well and all, but it looked like some bad acid trip.

Fantastic! Kojima works best when his creative duties are not stifled. I am happy for him and his relationship with Sony. DeStra is going to be amazing.

Imagine the day the game goes gold

Sony: Alright Kojima, just hand over the bill and I'll sign--- A BILLION DOLLARS!?

Most games are funded by milestones. Meaning as the game goes through development periods, money is given to the studio once a criteria is met during the development process. Then possible royalties after shipping.

If you don't deliver on those milestones, you don't get paid.

Seriously? Grow up.

OT: It's a natural fit and has been for years, it made me happy to see him looking as excited as he seemed to be on stage. It'll be a long way off for sure, but I'd bet on this being a very unique title. Can't wait!

House: 'how about we light up the floor when you come on stage, you know like billie jean?'

Kojima: 'where do you want me to sign.'

I'm pretty sure Kojima's meeting with Sony went like this:

Kojima: Hello, Sony, I'm here to--

Sony: Shut up, Kojima, take my money!

Kojima: Excuse me? I, um, I've brought a concept that--

Sony: Shut. Up. And. Take. My. Money.

Kojima: *pause* I'm really excited to--

*Sony reaches underneath the desk, pulling out a briefcase. Nodding to a well built security guard, the guard opens the suitcase to reveal crisp, almost glowing, stacks of money. Sony reaches out a finger and taps on a stack of bills. It lets out a distinct, melodious hum.*

Sony: Ahem

Kojima: I'll, uh, just get to work then...

*Sony smiles and nods slowly towards the door. Kojima picks up the suitcase, hugging it tight to his chest as he flees the office, a single drop of sweat falling from his brow. Sony sits back in its chair and lights a fine Cuban cigar, content*

Nothing better then e3 time Sony fanfiction :)

The thing with being first-party is that you can prioritize interesting games that generate interest in your platform over games that turn a profit on their own (though ideally you get both.) That's why you saw so much weird shit out of Sega during the Dreamcast era that stopped once they went third-party, and it's why you see Sony fund games that most third-party publishers wouldn't risk (or fund them more than those third parties would, at any rate.)

This is typical of Sony and it's one of their best features.

Imagine the sales pitch for Horizon. Many other companies would have raised eyebrows at having a violent, primal female protagonist. Or hell, The Last Guardian. I would surmise that the idea of playing a boy with a birdbeast would make Ubi and EA executives yawn.

As much as people hate Ubisoft here, they're actually one of the few publishers that green light "unconventional" games.

EA and MS have relaxed a bit recently, five years ago nobody would have expected games like Recore and Unravel from MS and EA.

Well people have been asking what they think Kojima would do in a post Metal Gear world with AAA resources. Looks like we'll get to find out.

I'd rather not hear about this game again until it's near release. Let KojiPro do their thing in peace. I think a Fallout 4 maneuver would be a hell of a thing.

Is the common interpretation of the title meaning how Kojima was stranded after konami?

The baby being metal hear which is dead and lifeless.
The beached whales and fish being the fans and staff who were stranded with him and followed him.

The figures in rhe sky being the previous metal gear successes that now fade away from him.

The main character being naked and given the keys around his neck to discover a new path.

Future games? Depends. I don't think he is even thinking about that. Is it a possibility? Absolutely. But considering how much of a strong relationship he has with Sony & vice versa, if the development & release of this game does well, I do not think he will be inclined to rethink his agreement.

Personally, it seems to me that he wants to eliminate much of the non-development/creation aspects that comes with the job of being a creative/studio lead that he was handling before. The story he is relating here is about him eliminating as much of those barriers as possible. Not worrying about other platforms feeds into that.

Possible but I think there is much more to it. The main theme of the game (from some article in one of the other threads) is connection. The umbilical cord, handcuffs, etc.

edit:

heres the article: http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/15/e3-2016-more-cryptic-death-stranding-details-from-kojima

“In this short story, Abe states that the first tool mankind created is a stick,” Kojima tells IGN. “He states that the stick is the first tool that mankind created to put distance between himself and bad things — to protect himself. He states that the second tool mankind created is a rope. A rope is a tool used to secure things that are important to you.”

Kojima points to the umbilical cord in the trailer, and the rope-like “umbilical cords” hanging from the actual title of the game.

“
...there are other “small messages” hidden in the trailer.

“Most of your tools in action games are sticks,” Kojima continues. “You punch or you shoot or you kick. The communication is always through these ‘sticks.’ In [Death Stranding], I want people to be connected not through sticks, but through what would be the equivalent of ropes… But of course you will be able to use the sticks too.”

Definitely some double meanings in there imo.

There must be some kind of oversight from Sony. Otherwise, the game would never come out. Kojima is a bit of a diva. I'm sure something like that is what soured his relationship with Konami.

Remember the last time Sony trusted a developer.

hint :
Ready at Dawn

Let's ignore:
From Software
Guerilla Games
Naughty Dog
Media Molecule
Sucker Punch
Quantic Dream
Housemarque
Thatgamecompany

Etc.

Here's the thing, trusting developers like this creates a higher risk per project. Maybe even lower sales on average (especially due to many new IPs), but in the longer term, the gain is worth it for a platform holder as it means they can offer something not found anywhere else and create a sizable really dedicated fanbase.

I don't believe Kojima will drag his project along and muddy relations. They're literally down on their knees kissing the guys ass, which is the complete opposite of Konami. He'll want to keep that going.

If he has two bad relationships in a row, that makes him look bad.
