God of War - No epic boss fights due to shoulder-cam and setting? Guessss again!

The camera just adjust its distance accordingly. They already show that in the demo.

Further games like Uncharted 3 have already been able to do the whole pull back into an epic camera moment while still maintaining a conventional third person camera.

Obviously they can adjust the distance from Kratos' back. I'm talking about (and I'm assuming the people I'm responding to were as well) more significant changes in camera placement.

Uncharted doesn't use a Resident Evil 4/TLOU/Gears of War camera so that's irrelevant. Uncharted's camera has more in common with traditional God of War in that your character can run in circles while the camera stays pointing in one direction.

Unless people think they're going to use old school tank controls when showing Kratos from other angles, which would be insane and bad for a melee action game.

I'm talking about other angles than locked over the shoulder. I'm not arguing that melee action cannot be done over the shoulder.

The discussion is about whether they can do dynamic things with the camera starting from this new over the shoulder control scheme.

Consider how badly God Hand would play if they forced a scene where your character is facing the camera or the camera is pulled out sideways and 45 degrees overhead. Traditional GOW controls work in all those situations. OTS doesn't.

Utgard-Loki, the leader of frost giants:

He's the one on the right, Thor is the one on the left.

It would be a pretty cool boss fight.
This thread really has me hyped for the new GOW. It would be great to see Thor in this like we saw Hercules in GOW 3.

I spotted another creature. It looks like a wolf like creature. Just after Kratos beats the troll and enters the cave, it's eating something, looks up and then runs away. GIF!

Also, maybe the demo contains some locations which were not shown.

Next to Kratos, there is a light. Far behind that light, there is another light.

It seems you can climb the rocks on the right side of the picture (at least you could in Uncharted, maybe they are influenced by it).

Check the rocks on the left. Maybe you can go there.

Maybe you can go through that fallen stump.

I wonder if we'll still see nudity, which is almost tradition for the god of war series. Did the norse gods fuck around as much as the greek?

so do you guys see Kratos relationship with his son being similar or different to Joel and Ellie's?

Of course. The gameplay even reminds Last of Us

Those first 2 gifs are from cinematics tho :p

Probably not. It's a place too cold haha

I don't know why, but seeing those lamps has me really excited. Feels all warm and "homey" for some reason, I think.

I think it would be similar in that both fathers are distant, but the main difference, I think, would be that throughout the game, Kratos will be trying to reach out to his son and actively teaching him how to survive and "be a god." That, and Kratos' son wants to make him proud and shit, so I doubt we'll hear a "Fuck you!" from him to his dad.

Nobody fucks around as much as Zeus. (I don't actually know Norse Mythology well enough to compare, but I'm pretty sure this statement is still true)

The game's already been rated, though, and it said "strong sexual content," so I'm sure there will be. Wouldn't be God of War if it didn't have brutal killing and sex.

Lightning coming from the bow following the arrow

It may mean that Kratos' son is Thor, the Nordic God of Thunder (amongst many other things).

On the other note, I wonder if we'll get to visit Valhalla, like you get to visit the Greek underworld in the previous games.

Yep, was considering these two possibilities - kid will grow up to be Thor or is a son of Thor (perhaps left behind by Thor...) or the bow itself simply has electrical powers - however then I wonder why the kid isn't being shocked since the whole bow glows initially.

Cory Barlog confirmed that the troll is a regular size enemy in the game. The from behind camera isn't a hiccup. On the contrary, developers have now more controls of the camera and they can set more epic battles.

It looks like the demo had the camera tracking the troll in the center. I doubt they'll make this the kind of game where your character strafes when not moving in the directlon of the camera.

Note: it doesn't seem to have the elephant husk things the troll has

And it's hard to tell with perspective but it looks way larger

I'm more curious about what killed this troll and strung it up.

We can get details from anything about this game. Look how this pic is called: https://grassetti.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/19_banditcamp.png

Which means the place where the skinned hanged troll is a camp of bandits who probably kill trolls and sell their, horns, skins etc... That is why, the troll fighting Kratos thought that he was a mere bandit and attacked him.

so do you guys want a happy ending with Kratos and kid?

The kid will be the key to earth's salvation but must first be sacrificed to the gods. When Kratos finds out he will go on a rampage killing everyone and will end up saving his son. The kid, who was out cold during this, asks Kratos what happened and Kratos will lie.

Nah.....

I'm imagining Kratos reaction to Ellie not knowing how to swim and that he must track down a makeshift raft for her.
Not gonna happen. It's sink or swim time
.

That's not the type of ending I could ever see fitting in with the world and themes of God of War

I could see him walking into the Elysium fields at the end of this one. Maybe even a Caliope cameo. Kratos deserves a happy ending, especially since he'll probably end up sacrificing himself for the next protag

I don't think Kratos dying would hold any meaning, given his past. Also, they can't, and absolutely won't, kill such a famous character off. There has to be a different fate awaiting Kratos than death.

Yeah I don't see them killing off Kratos. Seems more like they're trying to give him a whole new journey to his life, not end it.

I kind of fully expect Kratos to die in this, with his son taking up the revenge mantle in future titles

How do you kill someone who's escaped death several times? Literally he's crawled out of hell 3 times or stabbed himself with the most powerful weapon in Ancient Greek Mythology, the Blade of Olympus.

Yikes. That's messed up. I'd be pretty disappointed if that was the only reason the troll attacked Kratos, though. Although, at the same time, I kind of like it too, I guess...

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I'd also like to think that, contrary to the tropes and usually set-ups where the son is being poised for the new protagonist role, Sony Santa Monica will actually keep Kratos. It would be interesting to see where the game goes if both Kratos and his son survive and are both in good fighting condition.

And you really just can't kill Kratos off. Too iconic of a character. That's like, if they killed Lara Croft and replaced her with some other tomb raiding person.

Both Cory and Jaffe agree that death is cheap in GOW games. So, I agree. Also, do gaffers not have any imagination? [TLOU spoilers]
Everyone thought that Joel will die at the end of TLOU. He didn't, but they still managed to come up with darkest, most fucked up ending.
Imagination people, have some imagination.

I would be excited if at the end...Kratos ashes start to fall off him as a sign of redemption

If we do go to Asgard

do you want it be like Marvel high technology based or do you want it to be more "natural" looking

The more "natural" look that would fit God of War's aesthetic. So, like the concept arts we've seen, but I would expect it to look somewhat... flourishing?

It's a bit difficult to capture the scale of a boss fight like cronos in gow3 via shoulder cam, but that needed to be seen and i hope in future presentations , we can see atleast one boss fight.

They didn't use a shoulder cam for the fight against the mini boss type thing in the demo, it pulls back. It could easily do that to the scale of the bosses in God of War.

So you don't actually have any proof.
Just conjecture. Thanks for wasting my time I guess.
Sorry great master douchewad, for we have wasted your uber important time that you spend on this gaming forum and the word from the director of the game, who worked on the first two God of War titles, is insufficient proof. You have our most sincere and unwavering apologies for discussing things in this thread without bowing to your wants and needs before all else!

As obvious as it sounds, this is the ending I expect (and welcome) as well. Give Kratos one of those "I found peace finally" deaths and let the son be filled with rage at the Gods who killed him.
